Great video, thank you! The don't-lose-your-bolt tip and the added detail on the torque spec made this extra valuable. My 2009 Pilot was exactly like this...super tight but do-able on a lazy Sunday.
Awesome! I love the torque specs and not having to find it on my own. Would have been a pain to locate, I probably would have had to look it up. Keep up the good work.
This is the same engine configuration as the 2011 Honda Pilot and one of the best videos so far on how to do it. Thank you for the video. Very informative.
Video was extremely helpful in helping me replace the starter in my 2011 Honda Odyssey exl. The battery removal and tray removal, as well as air intake pieces while moving the fuse box wasn’t bad. Accessing the 14MM bolts was extremely difficult! Those big hoses were in the way the entire time and really annoyed me lol. I never did see the bottom bolt of the starter, I did it all by feel, and numerous different angles with different extensions. Nonetheless it is done now thanks to the help of this video.
How long did it take you to do this job. It seems like you're pretty experienced, and I'm not, so just wondering how long I should expect it to take. Thanks much!
I ended up using a rubber band to hold it in place while I worked the new starter into place. Snip and pull the band before you fully seat it and you're good to go.
So just replaced the starter in our 2014 Touring edition Pilot and the start makes a quick grinding noise right at the 1st crank. Temp outside is like mid to low 30's. Ive had the new starter in for bout a month and sometimes the sound is more noticeable than other times. Would you have any guidance on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance for your time.
This is coming from the starter. My '10 Corolla has done this in cold weather for the past 4 years. I even made a video lol: ua-cam.com/video/TypsUwBmfQI/v-deo.html It should not do it when new. I don't know what you installed, but OEM (Denso) should not do this when new.
When the starter is removed the shim that comes off if there is one needs to be reinstalled with the new one to ensure proper teeth mesh depth. If there is a metal shim it is specific to the car and does not come with the starter for that reason.
Sometimes I make removal videos on parts that are still good. I pick parts that are I think will help viewers. I try to show everything needed to get the part out without actually changing out a good part. This is such a video.
Absolutely HATE this about the Hondas! Wife had an '04 Accord and the starter was behind the intake manifold. I have an '11 Pilot and it's buried like this?! WTF?

Doing this job tomorrow, this is the best video I've found on the subject. Thank you!
You're welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful and my Pilot lives on.
Great Video and was a huge help! In fact, what took me a couple hours would have likely been a whole day event if I hadn’t watched this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is among the more difficult starters to replace.
@@TheOriginalMechanic great....haha just what I want to hear as I prepare to replace my first starter ever.
VERY NICE AND DETAILED JOB
Very good video. Job well done

A couple of hours should do it for the average DIY person.
How similar is this starter replacement to an 2011 Honda Ridgeline?
I would guess, the same.
very good video thx
What about the blue wire attached to the starter on the bottom left. How you get that off. Why is it there?
That's not a wire you have to worry about. It's a ground between the solenoid and the starter motor.
Forgot to mention a good path way to pull it and considering the metal gasket and rubber end plug. Putting the gasket back on was a bitch

Well now I know how to
Change my starter in my
04 Saturn Vue 3.5l
That's what i was on here looking for... All the starter vids for vue's are the 2.2's...
What a PITA! Our 2012 is starting to bind. I thought the alternator was difficult. HONDA, WTH
Should I get a Honda starter or aftermarket??
I've had good results with both but I believe the OEM is always the best choice.
Is the same place as the 2014 model?
likely unless there is an entirely different engine in there...but truly IDK
I mean the lay out looks the same it seems. I'll find out and let you know lol.
Hi, is it the same in the 2014 CT?

Don’t bother, he doesn’t actually show taking it out or putting it in.

He showed you what needed to be done, if you can't get it from that then you don't need to be doing the job, lol

Morehead lol
