Those HI- stations got me this weekend too on an activation in FL. I thought initially he was saying I hate POTA, I was like WHAT!?!. Took me a bit to get the call HI8POTA...LOL. I had to have him repeat several times. Sorry HI8POTA. But we got ya in the log and HIDL too. Thanks to all that activate and hunt. Relatively new to POTA. What a great activity. Just look at the views in this video. I don't need a reason to go outdoors or to a park as I am a lot but I got a good one now to go more!. Great job on the SOTA and POTA - KK4GMR
LOL, we like POTA so much, we came up with the idea of HI8POTA. Just this month, 4 new poters joined us. So look for all us at HI land on the bands and different modes.
@@HI8D that’s way cool!! I’m glad to have had the QSO this weekend. Like I said I’m relatively new to POTA. I upgraded my license in March. Got an HF rig in April. Got portable in May. Been having a blast since. Thank you for being out there and I look forward to future contacts with you all. 73
SOTA rules…Operation from vehicles is not permitted and the method of final access to the Summit must be “person powered”, e.g. hiking, mountain biking….
I have not checked if they are on the lists but Mt Scott is 2,464 feet, in Wichita Mountain federal wildlife Refuge. There is a paved road up the Mountain with very large flat parking place at the top. The drive up and down is NOT for a car or small truck with bad brakes transmission! I climbed up the side once when I was young and not to smart. I don't live near it anymore so have not been up it in years. When I lived there the Lawton Ft Sill Amateur Radio Club sent free messages from the Easter Sun Rise service held in the wildlife refuge.
Great video Mike, looks like a lot of fun! I hope to someday get out to Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, TX to try and activate it. After the demonstration this past weekend,I have the POTA bug. My goal is to complete first activation soon (next few weeks), either at WG Jones forest or at Huntsville State Park. It was super helpful getting to see and talk to you about what works and what doesn’t work, as well as a source of motivation. Thanks for all you do!
Nate, I don't know why but getting out there, being portable and making contacts is very enjoyable to me. Maybe highlights my geeky side. But what a lot of fun. And what a great concept is POTA where there's an order to something who says where they are and what frequency with hunters and activators wanting to say hello to one another. I've camped and enjoyed at state parks my whole life really. I knew they existed in other areas but now through others, there radios and UA-cam videos I can experience parks I wouldn't ever have thought of now that I consider frequenting. Good luck getting out there. I'm sure if you need any assistance this community will assist 10 fold.
I did a 2fer POTA/single SOTA on North Manitou Island on Father's Day. I spotted SOTA and turned in three logs. I might add it was CW only so communicating all that info would have been difficult.
Good evening Mike that’s a fantastic video and imagine the scenery was even better Looking than what the video could put out. It sounds like y’all had pretty good propagation up there, back here at home I’m having a very hard time hearing the pota station. I guess the propagation back here in Texas just isn’t that great. Glad you’re having fun and thanks for the video. Stay safe WD5ENH Steve
Absolutely love your vids. Anyone who wants to activate should watch. This is exactly what to expect. We'll be looking for you on the air 73 de Frank, NM9X
My monthly Patreon support paid for this? You guys might have had to go without beer, if it wasn’t for me. It’s money well invested! Time for a POTA America Tour. 73 Dave K7DR

Plenty of summits near Ft DavisAlpine Tx and MacDonald observatory Big Bend area in Tx.
I think Waste Management is working on several of those mountains you are requesting for Houston...

Lol, I think I actually did say "Uniform". I was nervous. :D
Sounded like uniform to me! Lol
Lol well either way, I'm happy to get you in the log.
Thank you!
Looked like a fun time!
A POTA on Galveston State Park is also an IOTA
That looks like it was a great time. When you coming out to the Bay Area for a 2M SOTA/POTA on Mt Diablo? 😁
