I love seeing the sleeve that they put over the exhaust to prevent fuel from contacting the exhaust during pit stops. Some brace soul had to slide a sleeve up onto the hot exhaust pipe and then remove it. I remember reading about them doing that to Parnelli Jones' car in 64 when it caught fire. I have never seen video of this sleeve, and I just did today! Tremendous!
I was living in Hollywood, Cal as a teenager and would walk by Dean Jeffries shop everyday on the way home from high school and and remember seeing this car in front of Jeffries shop
I was 16 years old when I attended the 1964 Milwaukee Mile race. My memory is a bit faded but it was a highlight of my teenage years. There was nothing like the sound of a Offy. I also attended a number of both Indy Car (Big Car) and USAC stock car races at the Milwaukee fairgrounds until I joined the Air Force in 1967. Thank you for the memory.
Love this car and the amazing fact it is still “ as raced “ ! The paint shows the battle worn paint ! Just Awesome! Love the early front motored car up through the early rear engines! On another note, I believe the Air Force Museum has Robin Olds’ F4 but it was repainted which in my opinion is a shame! His daughter requested it be left with its battle scared paint but the Air Force repainted it for display purposes?? I have a large print of an F4 which is probably in Nam with it’s worn paint and it is totally awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
Great job by Donald as always. Good choice of car, one of my favorites. I am partial to early days: The Wasp, Dawson's National, the Delage, and Tetzlaff's Fiat are examples.
I liked the roadster era and the early rear engine cars, but my favorite is my all original 1980 Hopkins Lightning driven by Gary Bettenhause, because I get to drive it at vintage events.

Donald Davidson is a national treasure. Thanks to Donald and the IMS museum foundation for their efforts to bring a little sunshine to our lives.

Would love to have more of these specials now with the shelter in place orders becoming more widespread.

I don't care what year it is, the roadsters were just plain "cool". Who didn't love the Novi's?
We are going to try to bring more of these types of videos to you over the next several weeks.
