He didn't invent underwear. Loincloths date from ancient times, and the moment you drape a tunic over a loincloth it's underwear. In medieval times, men were known to wear an undergarment called braies, onto which they would tie their chausses (essential long stockings) and wear a tunic over it. Eventually you have a period where the braies and chausses get combined into one garment worn alone, which we might recognize as hose or breeches. Simultaneously, tunic hems rise so that the hose ends up fully exposed for fashionable individuals during the Renaissance.

Well it makes the naming of my mother's mobility aids less odd! Her walking sticks are called Ethel, Berta, Steve and Simon, her wheels are called William and her wheelchair is called Ulrika.

The head has been stolen multiple times. It’s now kept locked away. The head on his “auto icon” is wax (but the rest of it is really him).

Gosh, I'm so proud that we have Bentham's corpse decorating our student centre.
Makes sense when he did will that his preserved body be kept on display in the main hall of the college he founded.
