  • I'm breaking up my 250 feet of single track to become 2 loops. But can fall back to the full 250 with this crossover!

    N-scale on the floor?!!! To quote Robert Duvall: “Any man brave enough to do N-scale on the floor can drink from my canteen any day!”😂💪🏽

      LoL, I've been on the floor for 7 years, have yet to have a problem.

    Random question for you, how often do you run feeders for power to your tracks? I'm assuming you have more than just 1 (especially) given how many feet you run! Awesome setup BTW.

      Hey! So back when I had 1 250ft loop, I had 3 power feeds to it from 1 box and 1 extension/splitter. When I divided it into two loops, I used the same 3 feeders but now from 2 power pack. One on the shorter loop and 2 on the longer one. All seemed to be fine until I added the double crossover which isolated all the sections at that point. Now I can tell there's a small slowedown as trains approach it from one side and then they speed up once they hit the other. Not so much to be concerned with though but it is noticeable.

      @@ModelTrainsWowthanks for the input! I’m just now getting back into the hobby and am working on an 4x8 layout (DC) just thinking through how many power feeders I’ll need. I do have that same crossover planned in my build. (Around 94’ total of track). I was aiming for 8-10 feeders but we shall see haha

      @ScottSTIG Ah, nah, you should be fine with just 1 possibly if it's one loop lol. Though it wouldn't hurt to add more. Not sure how many turnouts you are planning but each side will need its own power source since the turnouts don't share power to each side.

    Does any companies or even kato sell the full excursion passenger cars cause all I see for sale is a 7 car pack and I feel like big boy Carry's more than that and the water cars with the deisel loco

    What did you use to glue the track to the carpet?

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  2 місяці тому

      Lol, no glue, just sits there. So it is easily changeable in the future.

    The switch has to have the wiring so you can change the direction with a box if you wish to use one best thing to do is just build you a little block house to hide the wire or actual use the wire and build something to hide it.
    Can't really hear much with that music you put in the background. And if the switch is thrown all the way the power will not feed correctly so the train will stop.

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  11 місяців тому

      Yeah I get it about the wiring but why doesn't it work like the power feeder track where you can just unplug it?
      And sorry about the audio if you are having issues, it sounds fine on my end and the music is really quite. In fact, if I put it on my TV vs headphones I can't really hear the music side at all.

      @@ModelTrainsWow Its all good sir, the reason its not working off the track is because it runs on a lower Volt/Current and if you exceed this poof little fireball.
      Not seen any other track were you could do it automatically unless they ran all the wiring back to a Switch box that ran all the switches for the track which is a sweet to have if you have a large track.

      @@astrogumbie2399 lol, I meant "why didn't they design it so you just unplug it like you can the power feeder track" 😆

    Carpet fibers will wreck havoc with your engines. If you're serious about the hobby build a proper layout and get everything off the floor.

    • @ModelTrainsWow
      @ModelTrainsWow  11 місяців тому +5

      No.
      Lol, I'v been at this for over 7 years, running trains almost everyday on the carpet floor as you see it. Not once have I ever had carpet issues. Sure some dust gets up in there every now and then but that would still happen on a table. "Carpet issues" are a myth per my own 7 year experience. I enjoy staying flexible on the floor.

    • @David-yo5re
      @David-yo5re 11 місяців тому +5

      No they won't. Kato track has a plastic roadbed that keeps carpet fibers out. It is designed to be used on carpet. I have been using it for over 20 years on my carpets and have never had any issues with fibers getting in my locomotives or cars.

    • @ModelTrainsWow

      Seems like it, when I bought my 7 car set, I ended up getting an extra dome car and another passenger car as someone was selling the 7 cars one at a time so really I have 9 plus the water cars.

      @@ModelTrainsWow how many cars in total does the big boy in real life pull 2 water cars, 1 locomotive and is it like 10 passenger cars?
