  • I hit some new trails on an epic day of riding in DuPont State forest. Yeah, this video is longer than most of my other ones, but it's a good one! I wanted to show a sample of all the trails I hit.

    I really enjoyed the video. I also really appreciate a MTB channel that actually prioritizes the ride without a ton of extra fluff.
    I've lived within 6 hours of Dupont all my life and still have not made it over. I need to change that.
    Great Vid. Hope that Dawson is healing up well.

    Those trails are nicely cleared of leaves. With leaf cover that would be sketchy and slow.

    Awesome ride! I enjoyed watching, thank you.
    Whenever I cross Little River in Dupont with my bike, I use your technique of shoes tied around my neck, walk across with my socks on.
    Too bad Stone Mountain was so overgrown in the field part. The view up there is great, go left at the top and walk along the rock bald, views from either side of the ridge.
    The first part of the descent from there is super steep, narrow, twisty and rooty!

    • @ClintGibbs

    Nice job at the JB entrance with those rocks. I was there for 4 days the end of last week and Monday and Tuesday of this week, i rode up Jim Branch [not the rocky area] to the top then rode the Waterfalls and Sandy trail, Sandy trail has a nice stream on the right then if you keep going you get to see some BOULDERS so i stopped there and turned around. I went down JB twice to try to improve my technical skills and climbing it builds the cardio and thighs, those rocks and gaps too much for me climbing but fun going down, still need to be careful, those rocks are sandy and slippery and thats a decent decline. I stayed at a Red Roof in Hendersonville so only 30 mins to Lake Imaging parking lot, also bike friendly so i brought my RM Instinct BC in the room--hehhehe, next 4 day weekend i probably be there again weather providing

    Alexander (Single Track Sampler) just did a video about the Stone Mountain trail. And they changed the name of White Pine to Ruffed Grouse from Hooker Creek all the way to Sky Valley Rd. I think they did this over the summer. I noticed the signs were changed. So White Pine is very short now and only exists from Buck Forest Rd to Hooker Creek.

    Clint... I am florida as yourself. I know all of the riding Florida offers. Many, many great places ! The mining pits there are second to none . I have found myself as a sub-contractor in upstate South Carolina at the base of Blue ridge mountains. 10 minutes away. There are many nice places to ride here. Stump house tunnel with over 50 jumps on a 1 mile downhill ride.
    Paris mountain in Greenville, SC ... With many great trails. Bike parks like.. Gateway in travelers rest ,SC
    Lots of bike parks. I have to say that I haven't seen many of your recent videos... Due to I'm contracted to build portable buildings at a large plant here. Not much time to myself. I do know you were all about Giant bikes and you have done a great job testing them. Myself and my 19 year old son both ride Giants. Giant Reign for myself ... And Giant trance X for my son. I just noticed in this video that your not riding a Giant. Please let us know why without me doing my homework and researching past videos.
    My son and I want to hit Ridgeline now that it is Spring time. We just went through a dark, rainy, and very cold winter up here. We both have lost our Florida tans... Lol
    Anyway any information on Ridgeline would be great.
    Thankyou...

      My local giant dealer closed down and consolidated with a specialized dealer. Then I had a direct connection with Giant but my contact there completely stopped communicating with me for some reason. too bad because I had so many people tell me they bought Giants because of my videos. It's their loss, as I moved on to Niner in transition which are great support. Sounds like you've got some great riding up there!

      Clint.. I also wanted to add... That you have a professional edge on making videos. Great Job ! I will do my research and get caught up on your videos.
      I have been to The Hub bike shop in North Carolina and purchased a trail map. Still... Any advise is needed. My son and I have been to the new park in North Carolina .. called Kunuga. That place is a must for everyone ! I have met a few UA-cam stars there.
      Again.. any information on Ridgeline up here would be great. Ridgeline in Florida would put anyone up here to the test..

      When your going to ride Ridgeline add the Hickory Mountain Loop into the ride. It has some climbing but the downhill is great and then leads into Ridgeline. Ride it counterclockwise.

    I think sometimes they rate trails on difficulty on climbing not decending. Its funny how Grand Junction, or Duluth black is like a triple red other places. Always enjoy vids thanks for showing.

    • @gatoryak7332
      @gatoryak7332 3 роки тому

      I figure that trails are rated relative to other trails in the same system. Most DuPont trails, regardless of their local rating, are easier than the easiest trail ("Family Trail") where I ride.

    I did Ridgeline a few years ago, that was my limit, saw a MAMA bear and her 2 cubs strolling around which really scared me. I rode down to that parking lot down the street from Ridgeline parking lot where people hike around and view the falls, saw 'Triple Falls' among others, beautiful and people actually hang out down there, must be a slippery and tough hike up i would think, i took a quick video of Triple Falls, did some riding around there too, i think there is HOOKER falls too?

      Most of the trails here are very rideable for an intermediate rider. As for not getting lost, use an app on your phone. I recommend Trail Forks or MTB project.

    Sure would like to see you going through those mud puddles vs expanding them by going around them- these trails take enough pounding as it is

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому

      Where I ride, less erosion occurs by NOT riding through the mud, so that's what I'm used to.

    • @joshschrader4732
      @joshschrader4732 4 роки тому +1

      Clint Gibbs Might want to google it friend- our trails are getting trashed by out-of-towners riding when they shouldn’t be- as an influencer it would be awesome if you lead by example

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому +1

      @@joshschrader4732 I can totally understand your frustration. It bothers me when people ride our trails when they are wet. Some soil composition (e.g. Pacific Northwest) can handle being ridden wet. Ours cannot. The general rule is that if your tires leave a rut the trails are too wet to ride. Understand that on that ride the mud puddle in the video was the only one on the whole ride. I have a lot of riding experience and I know that the way I rode around it did not cause any erosion whatsoever.

    • @gatoryak7332
      @gatoryak7332 3 роки тому

      @@ClintGibbs You rode around more than one muddy depression in this video. They were all tiny and there was no need to cause the trail to get wider. It's not a question of erosion; it's a matter of trampling the vegetation and transforming delightful singletrack into wide, ugly, boring dirt roads. Ride with consideration of future riders, man, not just keeping your machine clean.
      The trails in my area were excellent, old school, singletracks before UA-cam. Now they are braided and beaten down and eight feet wide wherever there once was a technical challenge and wherever straightening a curve can shave a second or two off a Strava time.

    So if you don't have a shuttle up there to the top are there places to do out and back? And possibly some somewhat but not overly technical xc trails that are not so much down hill

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому

      Unlike Pisgah, most of the climbs in Dupont don't last more than 20 minutes. And most of the downhills are not that technical. Reasonover creek to turkey knob would be a good trail that's not too difficult but still fun.

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  4 роки тому +3

      I'll agree the Pisgah video was pretty bumpy because of how rough and chunky they are, and the lighting is lower because of the tree cover. But most of the video in this one turned out good I thought. The exception of course being Stone Mountain because of how rough it was. I don't take a gimbal on an epic ride. It's just not worth having that much weight on my chest over 4 hours.
