This was a fantastic video. Here's my take away...
All three areas, experience, doctrine and getting your needs met in the church, are not bad. In fact, they're all good in the right context. However, when we worship experience, doctrine, getting our needs met, or anything other than God for that matter, we engage in idolatry. This is a problem.
I've heard it said several times this way... "When we assign infinite value to something finite we engage in idolatry".
Love God (worship Him alone) and love your neighbor (serve others before yourself). Sums it up.

Keller's second point convicted me. Whenever someone's doctrine is off, it's so easy for me to look down on them and strip them of their dignity as an image bearer of God. Of course, when we correct them, we do it in love. Ultimately, sound doctrine should lead to worship and adoration of God, not ourselves.

All that is so true! My wife and I love the church were in but were finding the more we go the less we feel apart of the family, kind of like the step child of the family so to speak.

Spirit and Truth. It's important to read the scriptures but more so to be in the Spirit. Good points. Church says: "if your interpretation of this book matches our doctrine you are a Christian". Jesus says: those who do the will of my Father, these are my brothers and sisters.

TRUTH! The Spirit is ALL IN ALL and it is by the Spirit that we are brought into relationship with the Father. All else is needless for the Spirit reveals ALL. If He leads you to read the Bible then do so but ALWAYS FOLLOW HIS LEAD not our own! God bless and keep you dear one!

Interesting and thoughtful points. Personally i think both doctrinal pride and doctrinal indifference is a modern problem. There are people who are prideful and forget the heart behind all this. Other people seem to look for any fellowship which waves with the christian flag, and then feel troubled that there are many different churches, and then they try to cooperate with other churches because they feel sad there are so many churches with different doctrines, so they try to just close their eyes to the doctrinal differences and fellowship with any christians. They forget the church is invisble and that Satan has spread confusion with his lies. They try to sew together wounds, creating more confusion and more doctrinal indifference, and finally the creeds are very simplistic and differ alot from the New testament church. This kind of thinking avoids the doctrinal pride but ends up in disobedience towards Gods word.
The doctrinal pride on the other hand sets the church confessions as a solution. They think they can skip the personal repentance and comfort and replace it with doctrinal pride. Just like the pharisees forgot the heart behind the commandments, love, these modern pharisees forget love. It can become a form of doctrinal pharisaism. But the topic is difficult because only God can see the hearts. Sometimes godly humble people who simply follow Gods word in love are labeled pharisees by those who are indifferent to doctrinal differences.
But to judge other peoples hearts, thinking we can know the heart in people, is a form of pharisaism too. Only God knows the heart. We should not be like the young Davids brother who said when David was about to fight Goliath "I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle." Where did he get this from? Maybe from hearing about David killing some animals with a slingshot with the help of God. No one can say "i know your heart". To say that is opposite of being humble. The apostles often rebuked such mentality in their epistles. It is the kind of spirit which leads to envy and slander. "Oh i know how bad that person is. I know his heart. Even if he doesnt say any bad things i can tell what kind of person is" It is a very dangerous mindset and it is against the spirit of God.
Peter wrote "Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind." (1 Pet 2:1). Such mindset has the spirit of fight in a room where there should be brotherly help and love. It's like if a wounded person start to fight other people in the hospital and thhen say the nurses cant do their job right and then say the doctor cant do his job and then say he can do the job better and then try to climb higher and higher spiritually, almost like Satan, full of pride, looking up to get the best position. Such people forget that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and said "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant," (Mark 10:42-43). They also forget that Paul wrote "Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited." (Rom 12:16).

I LOVE my church, and this video helps explain why. yeah, I think we do put a little too much emphasis on experiences; however, our pastors always relate it to the Scriptures. We strongly encourage each other to help out and serve in the church, becuase we are contributing to something much greater than ourselves when we do that. My church's motto is "A church for unchurched people to find life in Jesus" and that's exactly what we are. We aren't there to praise the idea of Christianity, we are there to serve Jesus! A couple weeks ago, I specifically remember our pastor saying something along the lines of "It's not about religion; it's about Jesus!"

At 76, and a life believer in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified, this is so good.. I was raised in a good, yet very doctrinal "religion" and MAN set the rules, not God. It is so very simple if we but focus on one single thing..the Cross of Jesus Christ! John 3:16 should be the focal point of all truth!

I think the thing that us wrong with the church is that they feel that they are better than everyone else. For example, I've been to masses where the priest said that if people weren't catholic, they were going to hell because they weren't believing in what was "right". But it's not just Catholic Churches...how often to people from Jehovah's Witness come around to try and convince you to join their church because it is better? Unless all churches stop doing this, there won't be any major changes that make it better, especially in western culture

    • @mariotocamusica
      @mariotocamusica 7 років тому

That priest was speaking out of line with Catholic teaching, which happens because they're no perfect. Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 847) says "Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation."

were speaking on restoring honor back into the church how many know when we’re talking about restoring honor back in the church you are the church so when we are talking about restoring honor back in the church were talking about restoring honor back in our families I don’t know if you know this or not our country is in trouble our country is in a moral decline faster than we have ever realized and I believe that our country and our world today i believe the morality issues that we are facing today I believe all the trouble that we are facing in our nation today I believe all the things that are going on in our world today is directly connected to the lack of preaching in the word of God in the local church I believe that with all my heart years before all this got turned upside down God gave my pastor this. The moral climate of our nation are set by the pulpits and he said when the pulpits are silent there is going to be chaos there is going to be lawlessness there is going to be anarchy there is going to be all sorts of up evils there is going to be all sorts of racism all sorts of ethnic groups coming against ethnic groups all sorts of problems are going on in our nations today and it is directly related to the lack of preaching of the word of God in the pulpits
this is an article that my Pastor received people may not agree with us that’s fine it’s the truth its what is going on in our world today
Our Silent Pastor contributing the decline of culture a new study by the bama group is reporting some disturbing results on what pastors believe but are not preaching in his study bama organization as pastors across the country about their beliefs regarding the relevance of scripture to societal moral and political issues and the content of their sermons in light of their belief in other words what they are saying is in light of what you are preaching is what you are preaching what you believe or are you really preaching what you believe what we are finding now listen to this what we are finding that when we ask them about all the key issues of the day 90 percent of them are telling us yes the bible speaks to everyone of these issues he explained then he asked them well are you teaching your people what the bible says about those issues and the number dropped to less than 10 percent of pastors who say they will speak to it now let me ask you a question if we less than 10 percent of pastors that have a back bone to preach the word of God and 90 percent of them are preaching what they think you want to hear and they’re not going to preach to issues now we’re not talking about people were talking about issues how many know Jesus preached against issues he preached for the word not against people for the word what the word of God says so if 90 percent preachers aren’t preaching what they believe is right how can the world be any different than what it is that is just sickening so the truth of God’s word is being attacked all over all around us yet the pulpits are silent the morality of our nation is declining everyday yet the pulpits are silent we have LA preachers and other ridiculous tv shows that depict the church as a natural circus and the pulpits are silent we got this thing called LA preachers don’t go and watch it that you got preachers that are coming on national television having their bling driving their Bentleys and driving all their things trying to put together some little fluffy message so they can present themselves as Hollywood and there trying to preach not even trying to preach it to give such pathetic message to people to make them feel good about themselves no one is going to silence my pastor! Jesus died boldly and my pastor is bold Jesus preached bodily where is the backbone in the preachers that is why people aren’t getting help in the church’s today that is why they aren’t getting delivered in the church today we got some silliness going on and now they got a dating thing where you can find your mate in the church and there using the church like a circus and all these ridicules things are going on right in front but the pulpits are silent murder racism pornography homosexuality are exploding in this country and yet the pulpits are silent no one is preaching against it lemme rephrase that no one is preaching for the word WE DO NOT PREACH AGAINST PEOPLE WE PREACH FOR THE WORD! that is what we do. we preach for the word we preach what is right according to the word of God and everything in our culture if it don’t line up with the word of God its wrong this is the absolute word of God and the absolute truth! now you maybe sitting there and looking at this and say pastor you don’t sound like you got much love at all well you don’t know what love is if a preacher can’t stand up and tell you that pornography and homosexuality and racism and all this junk he aint a preacher at all he’s a hirely a pastor lays his life down for the sheep that means in other words he preaches what God tells him to preach in spite of the people leaving or people come doesn’t matter my pastor is going to please God not people prayer has been takin out of school and even in the military the chaplains are no longer allowed to preach in the name of Jesus or mention his name in our military but our pulpits are silent because the government has went to a lot of preachers and paid them money not to preach you don’t know that you won’t hear that on TV cnn fox news kxan or whatever you are listening to to keep their mouth silent why the culture and the moral fiver of our country is unraveling and just exploding just when you think you heard the weirdest thing something else is more weirder pulpits are silent someone in a class a student a girl sneezed and someone said bless you not God bless you but bless you but yet she was remanded and had to go to the principal’s office and they suspended her but the pulpits are silent we care more about the presentation of how comfortable we are going to make it for you so we give you a drink holder a donut and we will have Hollywood up on stage and we will perform our skits while half the platform is living ungodly and living unholy and yet it looks great to the eye it looks great to the flesh and it feeds flesh but I can tell you it’s detestable in the eyes of God and that is where we are at today and think about that less than 10 percent of the pastors have a backbone to stand up and tell you the truth oh come on now! Preachers they care more about they don’t have any fear of God they care more about losing people and their tax deductibles and their 501 C3 than they do pleasing God where is the church in all this? Why? because the word is not being preached there is no fear of God there is no honor towards God no more there is no honor the way we live there is no honor in our country there is no honor in any of that. inspite of everything that is going on all around us God is raising up a new generation and it is going to usher in the greatest move of the spirit we have ever seen cause we are going to honor him in this church that I am going to we are going to honor him in our life and we are going to keep him in the for front of our thinking the world is wrong Gods right
