- The Alphatron EVF 035W is a great external viewfinder that can be used with a wide range of cameras thanks to it's HD-SDi and HDMI inputs. It can even convert from HDMI to HD-SDI. It features a higher resolution panel than most of the other EVF's currently on the market. This high resolution panel makes focussing easier and more precise. In this review I look at the EVF, it's functions and image quality. To try to show the image quality of the screen I filmed this in broad daylight at full HD. Play the clip in HD to see just how good the screen is. I am very impressed. This EVF is significantly better than any other 3rd party EVF that I have used.
Curious as to why this was discontinued. I just finally got one. Seems to me there's a healthy market for EVF's especially since the more popular models are very expensive and Redrock Micro couldn't manage to release one (as promised for 10 years).
Would this EVF be OK with a BM URSA mini 4.6K?
You have not mentioned or compared colour acuracy of the monitor to what you have recorded. Whats your thoughts on this.
A very useful review thanks. I now have a Cineroid for sale! Out of interest the video quality is excellent. What type of file do you upload to achieve the quality?
When I first heard about this product I was thrilled. Love the thru SDI. I think I will get one and have a try.
One extra thing was I thought maybe it will be a touch screen, since they say it's the same as an iPhone screen. Guess not. But still attractive.
But what about false colors?
I thought that feature is there, no?
Thanks for review!!!
Al - nice video - what is the actual res ? also is there a 1:1 facility?
It's a lot better than the cineroid. Your very hard pushed to see the pixel structure on the Alphatron, while its clear as day on the Cineroid. The image clarity and contrast are much better.
I see markers... is there and Anamorphic feature?
Firmware 0.6 adds lots of nice features including anamorphic desqueeze in 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x 🙂
Is it IPS panel or TN panel? only 160 degree viewing angle? should it be 178???
Thanks please some one can let me know
Actual res is 960x540 - exactly half each direction of 1920x1080. This makes for clean simple math in the image reduction, which translates to better focus judging. Yes, there is a pixel-to-pixel (1:1) mode.
Is it possible to remove the loupe completely?
Would be very handy.
Thanks mate - really useful.
The 960 x 640 is misleading because of the aspect ratio on the iPhone screen, funny how they correct the size of the viewable area to 3.54 instead of 4, but left the resolution intact. Because 960 X 640 sounds better than 960 X 540, the actual pixel you can view.
any anamorphic features?

The upload file was a 1920 x 1080 H264, 24fps 8Mb/s. Encoded using Adobe Media Encoder, shot with a Sony F3.
Good work
good work thanks
thanks!
thank you….very informative without the folksy touch...
Just wait. A 5" FULL 1080p smartphone is being release by Oppo. It won't be much longer before an EVF is created around this new display.
Alister,
I love all your videos, but comon, could you move a bit to your right, or get rid of those clothespins :)
thanks for the review!
Hello Alister. Why did you not talk about the terrrrrrrrrible LAG of the EVF? Its about 2 frames (4 frames at 50p). This EVF is absolutely unusable with Sony FS700 with its own (3 frames lag). Im selling it imediately and NOT recomanding it.
Don't sell the Cineroid just yet.
This one isn't much different IQ wise. I saw it. Nothing special- standard definition, pixelated image
