- The 2017 Ford Fusion Sport VS the Ford Taurus SHO! Can the Fusion Sport take on it’s big brother Taurus SHO in a 0-60 and 0-100 mph race ? (0-100 km/h - 0-160 km/h)
Both cars have AWD and twin turbos, the Fusion Sport has a 2.7L TT Ecoboost V6 putting out 325HP and 380lb torque. The Ford Taurus SHO has a 3.5L TT Ecoboost V6 putting out 365HP and 350lb torque.
The Fusion has a curb weight of 3982 lbs vs 4343 lbs for the Taurus SHO.
Which one will win the battle between the two ?

I think the craziest thing about this isn't just how fast the SHO is, it's that the power/acceleration curve is so linear. Insane.
Guess you people have never actually been in a real fast car before 😂🤣 these are average numbers compare to todays cars. Nothing special.
@@fel1xxfel1xx60 and what car do you drive? id like to see your car do any better
@@TristanSpeno I mean I have an 05’ F-150 with Fbo, e85 tune.
@@AustinB3.6R is that considered fast nowadays? Lol.
@@fel1xxfel1xx60 Excuse me, but your are commenting on 4dr. ICE powered sedans! You won't find much in this class quicker / faster at their price point !
What I learned from this: Not to mess with Taurus police cars.
Evan Hasson that’s what I thought 😂
The Taurus police cars in Iowa are the 3.7l v6. They have to run on E85 and the Ecoboost isn't set up for that from the factory.
alanhassall They also weigh 5000 ILBS compared to a stock Taurus. They aren’t that fast.
Yeah good luck catching me I'm my hemi
The quickest and fastest cop car is the Explorer (Taurus SUV)
main difference looks to be the gearing
titopapi45 yes. and the weight of the taurus dosent help it either.
Steven C It was still faster
titopapi45 yeah something happens to the fusion at 80mph theres a weird lag or sloppy shift maybe not really sure
The SHO is crazy heavy (~4400lbs) but the Sport isn't much lighter (`4000lbs) despite being a midsize. The advantage the Sport has in weight, it loses in power.
Cj Bales kinda falls off.
It's SHO time.
Awesome comparison. Love it. thanks for sharing.
Thank's !
I was really worried about Ford making the Fusion faster than the SHO, glad they didnt or that wouldve been a really dumb move.
I've been driving a 2010 SHO now for 5 years and love every second of it.
Love both cars...but i dont have kids. Gimme the 5.0
I got two kids still got a stang over a sedan 😂😂😂
@@albertorenta congratulations! You are winning life
As someone who drives a sho I beat 5.0 all the time
I'm a single guy with no kids and got the sho. I couldn't afford insurance on the 5.0, a felony speeding ticket makes you extremely high risk I guess.
@@devinwayne89 your gonna smoke 5.0s any ways they’ll just violent spin trying to launch with you
Nice! Not only is the SHO faster, but I think the speedometer cluster is a lot cooler on it as well.
And there more luxury
Definitely a sportier gauge cluster
Both are decently quick cars for the level of comfort provided.
I can't wait till they someday redesign the Taurus SHO and go all aluminum with the 10 speed and the 3.5 with the same ratings as the raptor 450hp and 510TQ with the magnaride that would be a beast. But that's probably only in my dreams I don't think the Taurus will last much longer due to stricter emissions killing it off 😭 a sad day and age we live in for the carguy.
That is very true.. it is sad times for the true gear head... BUT, I have been thinking the same thing about the SHO and still have my fingers crossed that we can get a new gen Taurus SHO with the 2nd Gen. ecoboost engine before they really go all the way and kill it off.
I'm sure they will tune down the TQ like they did on the last gen 3.5 ecoboost when going from f150 to Taurus the truck has 420 ft pounds on the first gen ecoboost and the Taurus has 350 just a thought
Old comment, but sadly the Taurus won’t use the 10 speed, it’s a rear wheel drive tranny and the Taurus is a FWD based AWD setup
That would be great but the problem is the cost would put it way out of my range.
Ford plans to discontinue the Ford Fusion, Taurus, and Fiesta in North America.
SHO is a beast.
Yup !
thisisnalin I actually wasnt all that impressed when compared to the Sport
Both these are so lame. You guys needed to get Ford to Import the Australian Falcon. A full second faster to 60 and much much faster to 100.
In either supercharged V8 or inline 6 turbo form. Both engines packing over 500hp.
For SHO!
sorry I had to
The Ford dealership near where I live takes a brand new Mustang GT and bolts on a supercharger kit and exhaust. The car makes 670 HP when finished. No need to import anything.
I really hate how Ford gave the fusion the 2.7 v6 ecoboost but didn't offer it for the ecoboost mustang. The 2.7 ecoboost would absolutely rip on the mustang.
Boostang honestly the 2018 and 19 mustang ecoboost has the same torque and only 15 less hp than the fusion sport, and weights a good bit less so it actually performs better
Fuck that! Give me a Mustang with the 3.5l!!!
Charlie Odom will never happen. 5.0 will be the top engine for mustang for foreseeable future.
@@alanthesalamander2327 I'm not saying get rid of the 5.0. Hell...I would love to see an even bigger motor in the Mustang. The 3.5l would be a very nice addition. Think of it the same way as a truck. Some people prefer the sound of a V8 (I do too), and others want the turbos (the reason why I went with the 3.5l). With the truck, you have both options, as well as a smaller turbo motor and an N/A 6 cylinder.
The mustang should have more options than it does, and the 3.5l would be great to add.
Boostang I have a 13 Lincoln mks 3.5 the same car as the sho, and a 2.7 in my 16 f150 I’d take the 3.5 over the 2.7 any day.
The fushion slows around 80 probably because of gearing but also because they don't want it being faster than the sho
My 4 speed 2011 focus sedan slows around 80 as well, have to push hard and get momentum to get into 100's
id like to see both after a good tune and intake and exhaust mods
People mentioned the low miles on the Fusion hurting, and also the air temperature was 81° when the Fusion was tested and 68° for the SHO. In my experience there's a noticeable difference in power on a turbo car comparing a low-80 degree day VS. high-60's
I'm thinking with additional break in time and similar test conditions this would have been a lot closer.
Agreed and the Traction Control Light was on in the Fusion N not the Taurus🤔
@@gregorybowman4 That is an advantage to the Fusion Sport, so the SHO would have been even faster with traction control also off.
The Taurus is the Fusions big brother. The Focus is the little brother and the Fiesta is the bad little kid brother who just plays Fortnite all day.
Not going to lie when i see kids driving in them little fiesta's a certain word comes to mind that starts with f and isnt P.C or allowed on youtube...
@@Soulintent95 try an ST. Probably the most fun you can have in a car with your pants on!
@@lancemannion4113 no need. I have the fusion with the f150 engine, dual eco boost AWD.
@@Soulintent95 sounds like a fun ride. But power is only one part of the equation. I can't say I've driven in a fusion Sport. But I can imagine it's a beautiful drive and Ford does have a pretty good reputation with suspension tuning. But there's a reason that the St is owned by more automotive journalists and press members than almost any other car in recent history. I've had 78 cars in my life and the only thing I can think of that comes close would be a Euro spec BMW M3 that I had. Or a 93 Porsche 968 with the mo30 (I think it was called?) suspension. The ST punches so far above its weight in handling it's almost stupid. More power would have been nice but it's entirely usable and it's got a lot of bottom end grunt so you don't really long for it. It's such a shame that Ford stop producing cars in North America other than the Mustang. When they focus on doing something right with their tuning division, nobody in North America can compete in my opinion.
I have a 2013 sho, love this car. Just got it and I'm already making changes. They really open up with a tune.
Now it's time for the drag race.
A big bro it's always a big bro
Thanks for filming that! I was actually totally surprised. Thought the older platform and heavier car would cause the Taurus to fall behind. But apparently it's still got what it takes!! I can't afford one but I would really love to have one. I bought a Fiesta ST instead though and I admit I do love that.
I would love to see a head to head with the ST's vs some other vehicles in the Ford line up! Anyways, great video
Thank you !
Would love to have but cant afford which one, the sport or SHO? If its the latter, you'd be surprised how affordable a couple year old model is.
i cant wait to see what a livernois tune will do for that fusion
thanks for making this video!
if u look at the odometer on the fusion it's a new car while the SHO has miles on it. my experience with ecoboost engines are they get faster as u put miles on them I would compare them with the same amount of miles
That may be true. Some reviews of the Fusion Sport have it pegging 60 mph in about 5.1 seconds. That would equal or slightly beat the Taurus. Also the analog speedometers could be a bit off on either or both of them.
That's definitely true in my experience. They seem to limit power for break in. The three new Ecoboost vehicles I've driven didn't seem to really wake up until they got between 700-1000 miles on them.
I have the Titanium of the Fusion and while not as quick as the Sport, I do love the power the EcoBoost engines put out. Even when not using Sport Mode, when you hammer down that sucker will move.
Also figure the fusion was most likely on its free tank of fuel from the dealer. Which usually means 87 octane.
now the Taurus needs a redesign
Luke Hoisington Ford stopped selling the Taurus in the US but it did get redesigned for the China market. Look it up, 2017 Taurus.
emericaman16 No, the Taurus is currently still sold in the US.
Despite of the impressive performance and aggressive looks the Ford Taurus has, the sales aren't what Ford Motor Company expected, and, as a result, the 2017 Ford Taurus is in its final year of productions. However, Ford Motor Company didn't confirmed any discontinuation of the American market Taurus, the Ford Fusion Sport is an example of a possible obsolete of the Taurus SHO and the regular models from the Taurus lineup.
I love its design!
Kool Acclaimed™ while may be true but for will still manufacture the police interceptor variant, it is a great tool and has much more space than the fusion
I love my 2013 SHO IT'S fast and handles great. Added One Stop brakes and Mickey Thompson tires. But what I like most " is how few of them I see on the road"
Love it didn’t think the sho was faster!!
Love them both
Holy shit! And it's more amazing since how heavy these cars are!
wait. so the Ford fusion has more power and cylinders and better performance than the Ford mustang Ecoboost. wat.
Mile Chaser yeah a 2.3 ecoboost same as the focus RS
Dude I walked a ecoboost stand in a fusion se awd yesterday and the se I was driving is only a 2.0
@Country Boy never seen ice in september
@Country Boy only mustang that gets me are the 5.0s around me because most are built
even the perfomcance. eco boost is like 5.8 seconds
to 60
Ty for this!
Great video. SHO is on point.
My Taurus Sel doesnt have the turbos, but does have the 3.5. With a tune, my car is 309 hp, 285 trq. And runs like a beast. And gets 36 mpg on the highway with the a/c on. Love my Taurus.
Nice perspective
If the thermos are to be believed, the Fusion ran at a time when the air temp was significantly higher than the Taurus. With turbo charged cars, that is a significant difference. Not enough to change the outcome, but enough to close the gap.
Thanks for that, awesome work. So, need to look into some mods for the Fusion Sport. CAI, or what is out there?
I'd like to see the comparison with a few more miles on the Fusion. They're limited in power for the first few hundred miles to help with break-in.
I have an 05 taurus and it’s a beast. It has around 157,000 kilometres on it (about 97,500 miles) and it’s 17 years old. That thing is basically a truck just without a bed or 4WD. I can’t kill it. I live on a gravel road on a farm so if experiences rough terrain and mud puddles pretty often and it still runs beautifully.
If fusion sport had tall 2nd gear...it'd match taurus.
Try in gear acceleration...if you get a chance. Thanks for the video...you are probably only one on youtube with good fusion sport videos.
You're welcome :) Yeah there hasn't been a lot of Fusion Sport videos come out.. I don't know why ?
my SHO is a Performance package with the shorter gears and stock would do the same as this non PP
AutoVlog i dont like black people
Jasneet Singh or how about just run them at the track and record the video.
launching the fusion full throttle with 123 miles is wild
Both my biggest dream sedans
I have the 17 Fusion Sport de-badged. Everyone wonders what it is when I blow then away unexpectedly. What's really nice is the room and luxury amenities for a family sedan. A real sleeper for those who feel the need for speed occasionally while keeping their hands warm on the heated steering wheel on the 10F winter mornings! lol Several times very smooth and stable up to the 132mph limiter. Might go a little faster because of the momentum but will not go higher without custom tune.
Something is terribly wrong with that particular Fusion, with that amount of torque it should at least be as fast as the Taurus SHO
Baha T the torgue is not enough of a difference to make a big change. you see the speeds are close pretty much up the RPM. but the 40hp keeps the Taurus ahead going up the speed.
Steven C Well I thought less weight also would make a difference. Granted, The Taurus has 40hp more, but 30lbs less torque, and as far as I know the higher the torque the faster your acceleration would be, generally speaking of course.
Needless to say that i am disappointed, I expected more from the Fusion Sport.
This video does no justice for the fusion. Its normal 0-60 is around 5.2 and 1/4 around 13.6-13.9 from what I have seen.
It only has a little over 100 miles on the odometer. I'd want it to have more break in time before assuming it's an accurate number.
I have a Fusion, bone stock ran 13.6@99MPH. So yeah its definitely going slow.
I never knew that at one time there was a V8 sho. Missed that in life
Important to note the temp difference in the comparison shot...12 degrees could definitely have an impact on forced induction engines, and could account for a tenth or two.
Yep with Turbos they love the colder days. 80° is warm and would be more lag. Compared to when it would be chilly and the turbo would be crisp.
It accounts for about 7 tenths in the 1/8th mile, according to my last trip to the track.
I've always liked those Sho Taurus is going back into the mid-80s.
Notice that the fusion has less than 200 miles on it. Likely to get much faster when the engine and transmission gets broken in.
nice video!
Very quick SHO. Engine sound is kinda weak on both tho. If anyone remembers the SVT Contour that 2.5 Duratec sounded so sweet, one of the best sounding V-6 engines I've every heard.
I remember 1989 when the SHO first came out and at the local sunday eve cruise hotspot, one lined up w a brand new Camaro V8 and the SHO spanked it!!!
WPGinterceptor people don't realize the sho in the late 80's was faster then the camaro 5.7L and the mustang 5.0L
definitely wasn't faster than the 5.7 Camaro or the 5.0 Mustang, BUT it was faster than the 5L Camaro!! that's for sure!! I was there and witnessed all the drag races at the track and on the streets! unfortunitly for the SHO they didn't build em very very and they rotted easily.. heck I don't remember them laster longer than 10 years ie: Taurus and tempos back then
WPGinterceptor we had this guy in our neighborhood and his sho was untouchable. He claims it was stock. So im judging by his car. You probably are correct sir.
read the specs on em for yourself.. they were an honest 0-60 in low 7 sec car! definitely not faster than the 5L stang Nor the 5.7 camaro.. but the 5L camaro was beatable! BUT CLOSE... remember this is late 80's where anything 7 sec or faster was incredibly fast!!!!
WPGinterceptor lol so true you ran 11'S in yhe 80's you where flying now its about the norm.
I like the sound of the SHO better, has a more "real" sound to it.
I agree !
its piped in through the speakers... that 3.5 is so quiet all you hear is the turbos spinning up, so Ford put in artificial engine sound to make up for it
That is false for the SHO. No engine noise goes through the speakers, however Ford does do this with the Mustangs. The SHO has a 'sound amplifier' on the intake piping to make the engine sound louder in the cabin, though. Google 'SHO noise maker'. No fake noise here.
Ah, my mistake. Makes sense, they pipe it in for the F-150's 3.5 so I just assumed
Yea, that SHO sounded sexy.
0 - 40 on the Taurus is unreal!
Man that Fusion Sport puts out a fuckton of torque! 380 vs the 350 in the SHO.
Quick note not sure if someone else has mentioned it. But the fusion only has 123 miles on it. So its most likely on its first free fillup from the dealer. Which means 87 octane most of the time.
Did anyone else have a conniption when they realized that the Fusion only had 123 miles on it?!?!?! How could you do this to an engine thats not broken in yet?!?!?! THIS is why I ordered my Fiesta ST... NO WAY am I gonna buy a brand new car thats been run this hard in its first 200 miles!!
For the sticker price you really can't beat either car! personally I prefer the look of the Fusion over the Taurus, 325 hp Twin Turbo V6 helps also, for the amazing MSRP of $35k! Performance and sedan classiness!
For a sedan with 325hp that is goddamn slow my 17 sienna destroys it top end
@@aamirkazi1044no it doesn't you're on crack
The only shame of it is that we have all these great engines in such heavy cars and no manual transmissions.
In all fairness to the fusion, it wasnt even out of its break-in stage. Only 124 miles.
Great Vid! Question, wat state do you do these acceleration tests at? felt like both cars were faster than this esp the 0-100, maybe youre at high altitude?
Thanks! It's in PA :)
Thanks for getting right to the point . So tired of added fluff that doesn’t answer the point of the video .. good job
thank you for the report.try a k&n air filter and drill holes in air box on fusion.2 to .3 tens all day in 1/4 mile.ford stricks the intake box in fusion for some reason.
The SHO is a modern legend
The Taurus SHO is a frickin BEAST ☺️
Gotta say I'm not a ford guy but the sho has been peaking my interest I wish gm would get on this page
It's sad knowing both of these gems will come to an end, especially the SHO
and I couldn't be more sad that your prediction is correct :(
@@DL_Burga It wasn't a prediction, it was known for a while Ford would kill off their cars. What really surprises me is it seems to be happening in Europe as well, they didn't get a Focus RS this year and their Fusion died as well. Really is sad Ford is going this direction, I'd tske an updated SHO over the new Explorer ST any day. I don't need a damn SUV, I want a car that will handle better
@@BlueOvals24 agreed my friend... agreed
MotorWeek clocked Fusion Sport at 5.3 seconds to 60mph. And MW tends to be on the slow side.
You need tonuse 93 octane to get those results though.
Damn didn’t know the fushion was that heavy
Been mentioned on a few videos and I noticed it on mine but why does the Fusion Sport hang out at 5,000 RPM at the top of third for a while?
I think it's because Ford is slowing it down...still want to make sure the SHO is top dog. I'm just guessing
Michael Oswald Torque converter lock-up.
Great vid! What altitude are you at? Only reason I ask is because we get almost a full second better times at sea level on a 70F degree day out of the SHO... Again, nice video
Thank's ! The video was shot at about 950 ft.
Agreed, thanks for vid. And LJ, altitude is not a factor with turbos, max boost is max boost. *Actually with boost, higher elevation has a miniscule advantage- same intake boost, slightly less exhaust backpressure due to lower air density.
it did only have 1xx miles on it, too. the manual for my Sport says it takes 1,000. could that make a (little) difference?
I can't wait to see some tunes for it though.
Does the MKZ have Torque Vectoring and how is the Brakes suspension and Radiator also please tell me axle ratio and wheel size
He was playing "hot in here"
My 1993 SHO is running a 6.2 0-60 time. No mods or tunes.
Imagine taking all the electronics, rear bench and all the other shit weighing it down. That would be fast as hell
Would over the counter fuel additives and 87 vs 91 octane fuel make a diff in performance with ecoboost engines?
Itd be badass to take the sho engine and stick it in the 1.5 gen fusion
Wow Ford with those gauges... And going a bit heavy on piping in that music eh?
That Fusion is weak at 55-95, but the driver seems to have missed the power band. Was it the same driver in both cars? It looked like the Fusion driver tried to drive it like it was a Taurus.
Ford Fusion and Taurus are both cool.
May not make that much of a difference, but the SHO had more gas than the Fusion. More weight slower time?
Is the fusion here on 87 octane? My 2018 F-150 2.7 manages 0-60 in 5.7 and 0-100 in about the same time as the fusion here.
I noticed it was cooler when the Taurus ran about 11 degrees could make a difference
That SHO just stomps away after 80 mph... it appears to be so strong! Any ideas on tuning costs to delete that ridiculous speed limiter ?
450$
124 miles on it. Try again in 1000 miles. 2015+ Ford ECUs neuter these things for the 1k.
i agree 100%
My 2017 fusion sport did about 5.2 stock after 2k miles so yeah let’s see this matchup after the fusion isn’t neutered.... lighter car and more torque
2016 SHO, right? It's awesome how close the Fusion Sport comes to beating the SHO! I got my Fusion Sport on order.
It's actually a 15 but there is not difference between the two model years regarding performance.
are you sure the Taurus here is stock? the shifts sure look fast for stock to me. mine were a lot slower and tended to hang pre tune.
What year? My 2011 hangs a bit, but there is no sport mode. The shifts are a bit faster/smoother in sport.
You have a strange definition of the word "close"
Well the fusion only has 100 miles on it and it was 10° hotter so not a very control test but still fun to see
I have a 2012 Fusion Sport AWD, I'm not ready to trade up yet, it's only got 71k on it, but later down the road, I'm thinking another Sport. Wondering about the reliability of the 2.7. I know the 3.5 will go a long time. Wondering how the 2.7 will do.
OMG I JUST KNEW THE SHO WAS FASTER
Please excuse the saltiness but eff the Fusion! I have a 2013 Limited and while it's not as "sport" as the SHO,it's a really great car. Luxury I might add. I'm salty because it's an underrated sleeper and Ford just markets the Fusion all the time. The Taurus made the competition take notice and step their game up,but you don't market it? I mean come on. Sigh. 😒
I like the look of the SHO. The front fascia/grille of the SE, SEL, and Limited are "blah" in my opinion, but the front of the SHO matches more closely to the Fusion and the rest of the Ford car lineup. The Taurus doesn't need to be as sporty as the Fusion is. They are two different cars and really two different markets. I would like to see them add a Platinum trim level as they did with the Fusion this year. I don't think it needs to be completely redesigned though and because of the government/law enforcement usage, I doubt we'll see a major redesign until closer to 2020. This is all coming from a Fusion Titanium owner by the way!
Jeremy Collins The sho doesn't need to be marketed. The fusion is like a Hyundai Elantra, advertised everywhere. The Taurus SHO is like the Genesis, not as much
Clorox Bleach just about every other model has changed every 3 years except the Taurus
chuck mate ahhhhh ha ha ha😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that was priceless.
Haha, Sleeper....against what, a Honda Civic?
The comparably priced Chevy SS 4-Door Sedan runs circles around these cars and is much roomier/more comfortable.
If I was to pick between the two to tow a Cessna, Beech, or a Piper, then the Taurus SHO would do.
Am I the only one that noticed the mileage on the Fusion? I personally own a Fusion Sport and my car with 4k miles on it is a way different car than it was with 1k miles on it.
Don't get me wrong I love both cars when I bought my car I went to look at a pre-owned SHO and ended up walking away with the brand new Fusion Sport. The cars biggest flaw from the factory is the power curve and the factory shift points. With a tune from Unleashed Tuning or LMS both are fixed and people have been gaining quite a bit of power as well as running high 12's in the quarter. That being said there are not really any bolt ons available for these cars yet so I'm interested to see what happens when there are.
2.7 vs. 3.5. No replacement for displacement once again. The Fusion was tested in 80 deg. weather, the Taurus in 68, so possibly that might matter a little as well.
can you please do a comparison video using the 2011-2014 ford Edge V6 against the Ford Escape eco boost?? i wanna see whic is faster although i have a hunch the escape may have the Edge....... seriously lol
Better test would have been the SHO vs. the 3.0l Lincoln MKZ, 400hp and 400 ft-lbs
Both fast as f**k!!
0-60 test difference is gearing SHO is in 2nd. the fusion in 3rd. that carries on to 100mph as well
Did the SHO have the performance package, and if so why wasn't Advancetrac disabled?
they still make the taurus? i've literally never seen the current gen on the road
Looks like the taurus has more aggressive shift points than the focus does. I have the 2010 SHO with/performance package - it definitely has a more aggressive ratio.
I wish my Taurus SHO- 2019 wasn't having boost issues. I have no boost once so ever and nobody has been able to help solve it.
I love my 3.5 fusion but I want to upgrade to the 2.7l
Big temperature difference in the tests performed. How about testing them in the same day and temperature
