Wow that’s a beauty there! I’ve never seen one in that color. The T40 in Natural finish was my very first bass in the late 80’s in Highschool, put it on layaway and made payments and worked all summer, bought it from a local Pawn shop. I wish I still had it. 😞
Awesome Demo! thanks for posting.
Just picked one up. Made in 1980. Stoked
Congratulations! I love the tone of the T-40!!
I’ve had mine since about 1981 bought it used for about $225. I’m glad to see these are getting the respect they deserve. Yeah, they’re weighty but they are rock solid with a variety of sounds available.
Oh man, please don't tempt me...that's one of my "Holy Grails".
I’ve got a ‘79 T-40, natural, and I paid $300 for it about 20 years ago. It’s in amazing condition, still has the protective clear plastic around the control area, with the control labels printed on it.
Had mine since I was 15. Turning 40 this year.
It's a great bass! Probably the most versitile tone of any bass ever made.
Oh the memories thanks for this great video😀
This is one massive bass beast💪💪💪
My mom bought me one for my 14th birthday in 2008 and I've had it ever since. I think we got it for $200 then. I was actually considering getting some other bass they had in the store I think it was some Ibanez. Glad I chose the T-40 instead. It's always gonna be a special bass for me
Keep that bass! I still have my first bass, which is actually an Ibanez. The T-40 has way better tone!
Yeah, great basses, I totally overlooked them in the 90s when you could get one for £200 in UK 😂
wow awesome, had one of those in the late 80s, my first bass, had a Gibson Grabber too, both heavy
Respect!
What a distinct sound was my first thought
Oh man! One of the physically "HEAVY" basses I've ever played 😮!! Sounds great but killed my shoulder!!😅
God, these sound fucking incredible.
I still have the T-40 I bought new in 1981
I wish they were still in production.
I wish the same but it would be nice if it weighed less than 9 pounds. The Cirrus is another great offering from Peavey as well, and its not as heavy.
@@progrockjock That's shocking, honestly. How would I take it as a 158 cm and 45 kg woman?
I need to correct my earlier response. The Peavey T-40 weighs close to 12 pounds but I would prefer it weigh 9 pounds or less. Not sure how to take your question...I am 183cm/100kg but its a problem for me 😂
@@progrockjock Well, I held Gibson Les Pauls in my life and sometimes I found them lighter than my Precision Bass.
Ultimately, I think we can handle most basses. Look at Tina Weymouth - She is a petite lady but she has handled some heavy basses throughout her career. Some Precision basses are pretty heavy. However, my P-Bass weighs 8.6 pounds and it feels almost like a feather to me. I like your Avatar, by the way. Rush is one of the best!!
I tried one of these T-40's at a GC and it sounded weak as a kitten, that particular one they wanted over a grand, which was criminal. I'd recommend a Peavey Foundation bass, unless you just have to have a bass that can mimic a Rickenbacker.
My favorite offering from Peavey is actually the Cirrus. I'm not sure if anything can replicate a Ric, which I have found out the hard way by passing up the one I demoed at Sam Ash a couple of years ago.
@@progrockjock I hear you, if you want a bass that sounds like a Ric, just save up and get a Ric.
Insane to see these basses go for $1000+, mine was free!
They used to sell for under $200 back in the 90's😅
A GRAND! And I sold mine a few years ago for $300 😢
Crazy, right?? I wouldn't pay a grand for it but someone did because it's gone.
5:53 - 5:59 😌
Is that a reissue?
no
Looks and sounds great but 12lbs is too much for my back
I agree. Some people don't get that but the weight of an instrument really matters to me. Anything over 9 pounds is completely unacceptable to me at this point.
Mine is red with a rosewood fretboard, It is in mint condition ... I never play it.
I hear ya. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a T40 in mint condition, natural finish with its original case for $700. I considered buying it but it was already gone when I went back to look at it again. I like the tone of the T40 but like yours, I think I would barely play it.
@@progrockjock I bought mine about 5 years ago it was from a collector thinning his herd. I paid 450 for it but I could now resell it for much much more. Red with rosewood in its original case and not a scratch on it. While I was buying it I could not refuse to also pick up a n Ibanez MC 924 DS fretless also in collectors condition. My main basses are Yamaha's vintage and newer.
You have the Colin Moulding & Sting bass!! You can easily double or even triple your money on those basses. The T40 I played in this video sold rather quickly, while many others in the background were still there last month. It's been forever since seeing an Ibanez Musician bass. One thing those particular Ibanez and Peavey models have is they weigh enough to anchor a small boat, but collectors don't care! I dig Yamaha basses, by the way! They are terribly underrated.
@@progrockjock I have been a Yamaha player since 82, have 12 of them going back to 74 up to a beautiful TRB. BB's are my go to. The Ibanez is indeed the Sting bass and again in original case and paperwork. I keep them as investment basses. The Ibanez is not so crazy heavy but the T-40 ... hmmm not so much.
