it is important that the virus should not get any more new hosts to survive. Instead of spending billions to find an eradication, we can fight together and stop this pandemic. It is important that everyone gets tested and knows their status. Those who have already been diagnosed with HIV are asked to strictly adhere to their drug regime and attend clinic appointments on a regular basis. At the very least, let your sexual partners know you have HIV before you proceed with even protected sex. Still, if you had any exposure and in doubt, use Prep and PEP, which are available free for those people and get medical help on time, without embarrassment, as time is of the essence and crucial to prevent HIV from taking hold of your valued beautiful body and mind and putting you on lifelong pills. In case you have any exposure and are in doubt, use Prep and PEP, which are free for these people, and seek medical help immediately without embarrassment, as time is critical to preventing the spread of infection. Avoid any risky behaviour that puts you at risk of forgetting about yourself and your contribution to society. Use needles carefully and handle blood and blood products with utmost care. Together, all of us can work and stop this pandemic by following the lessons learned from it and please be vigilant and educate our teens and adults and everyone on how to help to prevent getting infected. Hi! I was wondering - if the viral load test is specific to finding whether there's a presence of HIV in the blood, and for there's a specifically high viral load in during the window period the ELISA test doesn't really cover, why not just use the viral load test to see whether an individual is HIV positive or not?

tee h He explains that its because its very expensive and not as quick. They use the Elisa test because it can be done in a clinic setting - in and out - and if negative they're supposed to recommend a follow up in 2-4 weeks for an additional test. Hope this helps :)
HIV NAT(nucleic acid test) or "viral load test" as he calls it, is expensive and is not used in clinical setting (dr office or hospital). It's done in a specialized testing lab. And has to be performed by trained personnel on specialized instruments (not just anyone can do it) doesn't really take very long to perform the test itself. Its'just getting your sample to the lab, getting it tested, having your result sent to your dr and then your doctor contacting you, 2-3 days maybe. If you are high risk for HIV infection, you can ask you doctor for a HIV NAT test which can detect the infection earlier than ELISA/EIA would.
after 2 months of unsafe sex hiv rna pcr qualitative test ?= not detected and anti body tests at 3 and 8 weeks got non reactive am i safe or not ? still need to get any test

Thank you sk much for the video. It's very interesting. I have one question.....HIV virus it has a RNA right? Not a DNA? Some hospitals won't dx with AIDS if you don't get PCP, or other oportunistic infections. Tcells under 200/mm3. What about KS, CMV, TB, MAC or CA? I know HIV doesn' t cause AIDS. Medications does. Viral load doesn't have nothing to do with the infectious virus. HAART meds produces crystalines distroying the kidney and other organs. Bactrin / Septrim only 14 days after that will damage the cell. It's pure chemo drug on the genetic level it damage the mithocondria in the liver cells.
Another thing I want to mention is that, 999 of healthy Tcells must die ti kill that is infected.I hope this is clear..... it may!!!!!! IT'S JUST MY THINKING.....Thank you
HIV is a retro-virus which means it uses RNA to make DNA. Clinically if you have HIV with a CD4 count of less than 200 cell/mm ^3 , you also have AIDS.

Blood is no longer the most common either. now it's sexual transmission. also saliva should not be on the list at all. transmission is through blood, seminal fluid, vaginal secretions, amniotic fluid, and breast milk

Elisa/EIA, CAN and DOES test for specific anti-bodies. For example there is a test for anti-HIV and a different one for Anti-HBV. Etc. non specific ELISA/EIA do exist but they are not usually used to screen for HIV, they are used in immunohematology/transfusion medicine screening to detect rare anti-bodies, which, if present, are then identified by using more specific test.

YOU NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS AS A NURSE SO YOU CAN EDUCATE YOUR PATIENTS, RELATIVES/FAMILIES, FRIENDS AND SIGNIFICANT OTHERS. AT THE SAME TIME TO BE ON THE SAME WAVE LENGHTH DURING DOCTORS WARD ROUND-YOU GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND CONFIDENCE AROUND YOUR WARD SETTING.
10 + years for developing aids with or without drugs ? can you show some articles that say something about what exactly is incubation period. i read some stuff online and they say that incubation period could be even 15 years now.
Without drugs. about 10 years is referring to if the disease if left untreated. With modern treatments, you can live way beyond that. Check out publications by the CDC and WHO

Why not skip the Elisa test and just do the western blot test instead?

The elisa/eia test is usually automated while the western blot is not: it requires a technician to both perform the test and interpret the resuts. in addition to the the elisa/eia(which screens for the hiv antibodies) a HIV NAT can be performed. The HIV NAT is a nucleic acid test that screens for the HIV rna/dna directly so you can detect the infection earlier than you would with an antibody screening test. At the blood bank we use both of these test, this reduced the risk of transfusion related infection. If either test (Anti-HIV or HIV NAT) is reactive/positive we then perform the western blot for as a "confirmatory" But the primary reason the elisa is used first is cost, and complexity.

unfortunately it cost money to get Mike's videos and pdfs from his website, but DEFINITELY worth the money. There is alot of great info and everything you need to pass tests. I am doing so much better since I am a member. try it and surprise everyone in your class :-)
