  • I created this video for those folks who have purchased a Samsung HDTV and have been experiencing the power on power off cycle problem. If your television turns itself on and off and does so on its own you have a problem. I hope this information will help you to fix the television.

    ***** Even tho it was posted over 2 yrs ago... I CANNOT say thanks enough, for posting this video! You've saved me SO much aggravation (money towards endless repairs too) simply by sharing your experience. =) I've been having the identical issues.. random on/off, on/off, on/off... SO annoying. Sometimes one after the other....& others.. once or twice, then nothing for a couple of hours. So.. I went on a hunt for possible issues & was led to your video. The only saving grace, for me... is that I haven't dumped any money into repairs as of yet; Plus, having bought my Samsung 40" lcd HDTV (also, ironically, from Best Buy- but in Illinois) 6-7 yrs ago now.. AND being disabled, I've had the sucker pretty much ON, 24/7 for.. what has to be close to 90% of that time... Yeah, I'd say, unlike most.... I've probably gotten more than my moneys worth out of the thing now. That being said.. Up until now, I've luckily had zero issues with it (or my Samsung Galaxy S-III) but wanted to thank you again for sharing your problems & steps towards resolution, saving me from going through all that too. I'm definitely gonna go check out that class action thing so I'm at least counted in on the number of people who had that issue... & I'll definitely be shopping for a new television this Christmas. =) Happy holidays from (brrrrrr) Chicago! Amanda

    AWESOME VIDEO! GREAT JOB!
    As a single mom who saved for over a year to buy a tv for our home, as I wasn't a tv user before but now having some staple shows and video games has turned out to be relaxing for me at the end of a long day AND will entertain my son long enough to get work and schoolwork from college done. Do you know what it's like to have a deadline on a big assignment and your son won't hush about wanting his 1 hour of tv time, you go to start the tv and bring up his cartoons and the damn thing REFUSES to stop rebooting. I'm about to bring my child and tv down to customer service and tell them good luck and I'll be back to pick them up at the usual time I turned off their tv to end mommy's work time- not when it turns off. Let them deal with my son and they'll own up and apologize and reimburse everyone. Good luck to us all, Samsung victims.

    This video helped me 2 years ago to understand why my brand new Samsung from Newegg shut off 5 minutes after first turning it on. I got the usual, unplug your DVR, hard reset, blah blah. When I mentioned the class action they said it expired and lied about it not being a problem anymore. I told Newegg I'm sending it back to them, got a Sony Bravia which has performed flawlessly for 3 years now.

      LFB don't give up on the television, give up on Samsung. Join the boycott of all of their products. They just don't care. If you like the set, look into getting it repaired at a cost of about $200 in a repair shop. Might be cheaper if the main board is not corrupted. Once you replace the capacitors it will give you a couple of years more service. You just have to hate a lousy company like Samsung. :)

    Thank you for your video! I have a 2 1/2 year old Samsung Smart LED HGTV. It was $4,000.00. I was told by Best Buy that I would have to ship my TV to Samsung in Korea to have it repaired. I have the same on / off cycling problem you described. The Samsung authorized repairman just left. He is ordering a new Main Board. I'm glad they didn't even talk about the capacitors. I would have had no idea about this problem if you hadn't posted this video. Again, thank you!

      Betty just checking in with you on how long that repair lasted for you? If you got Samsung to replace the main board for free you hit the lottery. They normally make yOU pay the $200 For that replacement. Its been awhile, sorry I missed your initial comment to the video. Trying to keep this all alive for consumers so they realize just how poor Samsungs customer service truly is.

    Thank you for the information! It is awful that Samsung would do this. I'm having the same problems with our Samsung TV. Their stock just plunged for defects with their phones. Companies really need to make ethics and customers a priority, because not only is it the right thing to do, it is also the smart thing to do.

    Thanks for taking the time to do this. I was about to replace the capacitors, then I saw a video that said, hey, just pop out the TV control panel wires! Now I see that all of my efforts could have been in vain & infuriating. Thanks for saving me the time.

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  9 років тому +1

      Mike. If you are lucky, it might just be that control panel wire. While you have the back off of the television, inspect the capacitors on the power supply board. Easy to see the fat little devils. Even easier to see if the tops or sides have swollen or even leaked. If they seem to be OK, then you might have hit the lottery. Unplug that set of wires (should only be one small plastic connector to pull for both wires that connect back to the supply board). If you turn on the television and it does NOT begin to turn itself on and off...and it might happen after an hour or so..then you might be OK. Its one of the three things that can cause the problem.Most of us have had to replace capacitors. Good Luck and thanks for checking in with us.

I guess I'll just be buying a new television and will most likely not get another Samsung! I had loved my Samsung until this began to happen and now seeing all of these comments! +S Hills Ms Hills. If you can find someone who has electrical soldering skills, it really is easy to fix the capacitors. My old Samsung television has now been working for almost 3 years since I replaced the capacitors for my daughter. So, in spite of my anger towards the Samsung customer service program....it was a quality set in its day. Good luck with the other appliances.

Now, it seems that even if he did call, they would deny there was a problem. Thanks for clearing that up. I was a customer service supervisor and can't believe a company would blame the consumer...breaking the cardinal rule of customer service. RIDICULOUS!

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  7 років тому +1

      Phalanx443 use caution when removing the old capacitorswith a soldering iron. You can ruin the power supply board if you heat the wrong element. Also make sure your capacitor polarity is correct, its marked on the board with a + or - . Once you do the caps I hope that is all you needed. Good luck! I could not agree with you more about the total LACK of customer service with Samsung.

      +David Kielland-Brandt Just a warning. Now that your television is doing the Samsung shuffle, stop using it. I know you can eventually get it to stay on, however, that will lead to a failure in your main boards EPROM. So, instead of a cheaper repair for 4-6 capacitors, you could eat a motherboard/main board for another $220. If you are good with a soldering iron you could do the capacitors your self. Google Samsung Television capacitor repair kits. However, the main board usually requires updating by a technician. Cost...closer to $250. Never buy Samsung again. You might try calling them up for a free capacitor repair...even though you are out of warranty, they have been repairing some sets even if out of warranty. Good luck.

      +nvdwarriorLtc Thank you for your reply. Yes I have learnt from this experience that i will never buy a Samsung tv again. I will try to google Samsung tv repair kit and then consider repairing it even though I doubt it's worth it.

      David Kielland-Brandt Don't shoot the television yet David. After I had the capacitors replaced in the Samsung I gave it to my daughter to use. 3 years now and it is still running. So....you might still have a viable television once the caps are replaced. I actually purchased a new LG HDTV for $499 and after one year had to replace the entire main screen due to a red line.....unreal. Don't know who to trust anymore.

    I have a Samsung 42" tv. Bought it about 5 yrs ago. The only issue I started having with it is that the tv will not turn on or off with the remote. Only with a control button that is on the rear side of the tv. I didn't realize people were having this issues with these tvs turning off. I had a smaller Bell and Howell tv that I had for about 10 yrs and never had any issues with it. Sold it to buy me a larger Vizio flat panel tv. Have had the Vizio tv for about 5yrs. And no issues with it yet. Thanks for sharing your info. about Samsung and their tv issues,

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  6 років тому

      Armando, the actual fault with this generation of flat screens is that they turn on and off, repeatedly, sometimes ending the cycle so folks would watch them. It is when these sets start turing on and off due to the bad capacitors, that the owner is actually damaging the main control board. Caps are cheap, main boards around $200 for the part. You might want to locate a new remote. It is possible that the remote has the incorrect television selected for it. That on and off switch on the bezel you use actually has a small wire that leads to the main control board. Some people have to disconnect that wire in order to stop the power off and power on issue. This is NOT a capacitor issue it is a failure in that control panel inthe bezel. These sets are designed to fail after a few years, planned obsolescence and Samsung knows it. Good luck with the remote!

    Very interesting video & ( endless!) comments section. I'm here in the UK & bought the 46" 3D LED 8000 series in late December 2013. Like a lot of your subscribers, I bought it on the back of researching every available 'expert' review I could find. With the use of the web, this was an easy task & without exception all gave 4 star or above ratings, many accompanied by rave reviews. I collected & took home this acclaimed prize & proudly installed it in time for the Christmas holiday period, expecting the eighth wonder of the world to unfold before our very eyes. At first, all was well except that the set hardware could not keep pace with the frame speed of live ball games, football & tennis especially. Then later, in quieter times, I started to try out the 'bells & whistles'. More disappointment! The setting up of voice & hand control was laborious, as was using it! Even my grandchildren who have been raised in the techno age gave it bad copy, & even when we tried the add-on keyboard it was still far from satisfactory. Nevertheless, we lived with it. That is until week 54 of ownership, just outside of the 1 year UK guarantee period, when the verticle lines began to appear. At first infrequently, every 3 or 4 days and for a brief time only. Then more regularly and for longer periods. I thought this May be due to other peripherals or wi- fi etc but the problem persisted. Then, one evening, the show really began! The vertical stripes alternated between horizontal & diagonal multi-coloured stripes, then full-screen single coloured or monochrome stills-all punctuated by repeated remote switching on and off-stopped only by unplugging the set. Now I am endeavouring to find out if a repair can be effected for a reasonable price. I have not heard of any legal action being taken over here but if anyone knows of such a move I would be more than willing to subscribe. It goes without saying that this will be my last Samsung purchase of any description and my cellphones & Blueray player will be ditched for something more wholesome. I will complement my iPad with an iPhone & hope that Apple wipe out these eastern scammers!

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  10 років тому

      David, if you are lucky, it will be a simple capacitor replacement on the power supply board. If you are unlucky, 45 min to an hour after Samsungs maintenance team leaves the set will once again begin to turn on and off. This might mean that the capacitors have corrupted your main board logic or you may have a bad touch panel screen. If you are still under warranty you will find that Samsung, after replacing the capacitors will almost blame YOU for the problems you have. Good luck. Remember, try to deal with an Executive Level Customer Service rep, be firm in your comments about your knowledge of this problem with Samsungs. You might just get $200 in gift cards for the store you purchased the set at. Samsung wants this all to go away. You just can't buy $1900 to $3500 worth of silence with two capacitors and a few gift cards. This company is disgusting, they are deceptive and they really don't care what the stupid american consumer thinks about them. Good luck.

    Thanks for this. We had starting using our 2008 Samsung more frequently when we moved this TV out of the guest room (rarely used twice a year) and into our kitchen (daily use). Within 2 or 3 days of using this symptom appeared. I received this TV as a housewarming gift though I work for Sony Electronics. All brands have there stuff but this is really disappointing to hear that the manufacturing involved these sub standard parts. I suspect if we had this TV in our main room the problem would have shown itself years ago. I think it's too old to repair. But I am still going to check out the class action.

    I am going to attempt to fit this all in. I finally got tired of waiting for Samsung to respond to my class action lawsuit application and sent off a friendly email to my Abington Cole lawyer who handled the class action. I informed him that I had not heard anything back. Within a day of sending that email I received a phone call from the Samsung Class Action supervisor. She attempted to tell me that I had been disqualified because the lawsuit did not cover the "Main board". She attempted to tell me that I had already received a $200 Best Buy gift card as payment for my expenses. I had to stop her and read her the Samsung letter sent to me from Corporate HQ in New Jersey that specifically said that gift card was for my patience. Never mentioned reimbursement for repairs. I also informed the supervisor that Samsung should hang its head in disgrace for not admitting that the capacitor failure leads to a failure in the main board. I told her that I was not looking for a pound of flesh here, I just wanted Samsung to reimburse me for the cost of the main board. I also told her that I would not stop informing people, thru social media like Face Book and You Tube, of just how poorly they are treating their customers. Folks. Samsung does not care one bit about our pain. They only care to take our money. They pretend that this capacitor repair is good customer service. That is a complete lie. They are simply trying to get out from under this gorilla, the problem with the capacitors is preventing them from selling off the television division. They want the cell phone business, small monitors and now appliances. I would warn any consumer that Samsung has not learned one thing from the capacitor failure issue. They march on, selling the sets, taking our money and absolutely refuse to admit their shortcomings. We should rise up collectively and pass the word. I hope my video goes viral. I don't want a penny more than what Samsung charged the Geeks for the main board. $313.00 installed. Hell, I would take the $224.00 that the board cost. Samsung is an evil corporation. They do not deserve to be supported by consumers in this country. Shame on Samsung.

It is highly unlikely that they will help you. Let me know what they did for you.

      nvdwarriorLtc I am having this problem with my 60 inch Samsung. Cycles on and off for about half hour.
      Then it will stay on for 15 minutes off and on ..keeps cycling . Tv is basically useless to me. It is not even 5 years old. And did not even watch it more than 1 -2 hours a day. I called Samsung and they told me it was obviously out of warranty. I'm on my own. They said they knew nothing about any defect. I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT EVER!! BUYER BEWARE!! My daughters tv has been cycling ever since she purchased it and for months has been going round and round with their customer service (since it's still under warrantee). We also have a Samsung that the tv won't power off and the volume won't work, we have trying multiple remotes and still won't work. So we have resorted to manually unplugging it to power it off and plugging it back in to turn it on, but nothing for the volume.... We will never buy a Samsung product again.

    All good points Arcade that is why I suggested watching any or most of the videos that show to the right of my page on You Tube. Most of them recommend what you do, replace ALL because it is only a matter of time. Also, one more thing you forgot to mention, the touch panel on the right side of the television also causes it to have this problem. You just have to unplug it. Most of my comments are directed to folks like myself who may NOT have electrical insight. I just fly helicopters!

    Natasha, I understand your pain. The class action lawsuit against Samsung closed this past April. You still should contact them to see if they extended the repair warranty on your set. It could get the capacitors replaced at no cost to you. If they tell you your set is not on the list, tell them that you are going to file a complaint with your State Attorney General. This should get you to the Executive Cust Service Rep who might change her tune and help you! Don't give up!

    Thanks! Thought I was going nuts. I have Samsung a 43" plasma TV, my son got for me in 2013. Model PN43E450A1FXZA. I would watch it, and it would shut off by itself after a few hours. Also, when I shut it off, it would come back on after a few hours. THANKS for you video. Saved my sanity. I will contact Samsung...if not resolved, I will certainly join the class-action lawsuit.

      Pam. The class action lawsuit that I keep chatting about was brought forward by the LCD television owners in the 2007-2008 purchasing years with the lawsuit closing in April of 2013. No one can join that class action lawsuit at this time, however, the results of our lawsuit do require Samsung to complete repairs to a group of televisions is has listed. The repair is the replacement of capacitors only. Anything beyond that they refuse to fix. Jerks. So, give them a call and provide them with the identification of your set by model and serial number. Make sure you tell them the television is experiencing the Power On Power Off issue and that you KNOW this is being caused by bad capacitors on the power supply board. If the first level Customer Service Rep tries to blow you off, just demand to talk to a Senior Executive Level CSR. They track every call they receive. The squeaky wheel. I wish you lived in New Jersey because their Attorney General has really given Samsung problems along with our here in Massachusetts. If you live in Mass, you should contact the Attorney Generals Office, Consumer Protection Division in writing with all the info. They were great in helping me receive what little compensation I finally received. Even though your son got you the set in 2013, it might have an older manufacture date. Samsungs warranty on their crap televisions is based on the manufacture date, not when you buy it. Like I said, they are jerks. Be persistent. Use your Attorney General if they fail to repair your television. For me personally, I have declared war on this disgusting company. They are the enemy.

    Robert. Perhaps you have not dug a hole in the backyard and buried your Samsung. I agree with you in that I will never purchase another Samsung product because of the underhanded way they treated all of us int he class action law suit. One thought. If you do have the capacitor issue, it really is an inexpensive repair these days. If you do it yourself, under 25 bucks. Have a repair guy replace them, perhaps $200. The set will continue to work once the repair is done. My daughter is going on 3 years with hers still working. The pain will never go away!

      Joshua, the class action suit ended years ago and Samsung does not always repair sets now. You could try, call them up, give them your serial number and the year it was made. It never hurts to mention that you know the damn sets are failing by the thousands and that they have fixed those at no cost to you. As far as how to fix it your self, I would recommend watching the videos that are posted on You Tube. Tons of people have done it and they show you how to include the type of capacitors to get. They really are not expensive. You just have to have an ability to solder a circuit board OK? Watch the videos they will show you the way to do the repair. But....try Samsung first.

    Well, I am joining the folks here. Newer models have the same issues which they will not acknowledge issues with on off issues. I have a UN65ES8000 like others who have posted here, on other videos, etc. Unlike this gentleman, Samsung refused to acknowledge an issue with this model of television. I have seen other posts on this model. So... as I type on my Samsung computer, called technical service on my Samsung phone... I will not purchase another Samsung product again. After I'm no longer upset about this whole issue, I will call Best Buy, make an appointment with Geek squad where I spent thousands of dollars on Samsung products, have them fix it, move on and never buy Samsung's products again. Like this gentleman, my television is just over 2 years old purchased in November 2012.

    Harry. You are correct when dealing with Samsungs newer products with respect to the logic board. ON my older set they referred to it as the mother board. Also, another major problem causer is the touch panel control unit on the bezel of the television. You can stop this from being a problem by simply unplugging the little devil from the motherboard. A third failure we find on the LCD televisions in the T Card. That causes the same type problem. So all in all, Samsung blew it with these sets!

    Nvdwarrior, I want to thank you for your community service on this serious issue with Samsungshit TV's. I would to share what worked for me with those who bought a Samsung TV 3D LED UNF8000 series.
    I, too was experiencing this problematic powering on/off cycling every time I turned on the TV and it progressively got worse over time. I opened the back of the TV panel and checked for bulging capacitors, all looked fine. I have the TV and PC both connected WIRED to the wifi router---this amateur setup was causing the powering on/off cycling to go ape shit. I removed the Ethernet cable from the back of the TV and now the TV boots up normally. Hope this works for those with similar TV model/setups.

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  9 років тому

      Ghazjj34 Thanks for your input. I know that the LED sets have unique problems of their own. Samsung does tell you to initially unhook all exterior devices such as a DVR or router. They know a conflict exists in these newer sets. I have been dealing mostly with LCD televisions made in that 2007-2008 time frame. I am thrilled that you found an inexpensive solution. I wish this worked for the inferior capacitor problem. In a lot of cases, taking the back of the set off and eliminating bulging or leaking capacitors can allow you to look for another reason. Thanks for your compliment also. I appreciate it. You help to keep this thread up to date and others may get an answer to their problem through you. Thanks again.

    Conrad, congrats on your repair. You are lucky that reprogramming the eprom allowed your set to function normally. This is not true in all repairs. If you had continued to attempt using the set not only does this corrupt the eprom, but you can also kill the motherboard itself. Not worth arguing over, however, I am trying to warn folks that the caps by themselves can be replaced and you may still suffer the eprom, the motherboard, the T Con board and the bezel control switch failure. It sucks!

    Hello and thank you for your video and comments. I have a 58inch Samsung led smart tv for two and a half yrs. It suddenly turned off not even the red power light is on in the bottom right corner. Before this one went I bought one from Wal-Mart and purchased an extra two year warranty. Needless to say that tv went aswell but when I called the company that handles there warranty's they came strait out to repair it.
    Two weeks later the bottom two rows of light's QUIT. The repair company come back two days later to look at it and did nothing.
    The warranty company called and apologized and said the are going to send me a cheque. When I received the cheque it was for the full
    Price of I paid for the tv. My wife purchased this tv for me and got the Sam warranty but she cannot remember where she put it.

These TV's are nothing more thatn big computers these days. Built in failure due to heat and lousy components. Samsung is on the bottom of my crap pile forever. Hope you can find the receipt! Thanks for sharing yoiur story with us. Folks are still suffering this type of Samsung failure in both customer service and quality of the product.

      Michael, sorry for this late response. A lot of us had purchased the Big Box Store extended warranties. I did not realize that if Best Buy Geeks could fix it, I would never see a NEW television. They just keep the Geeks coming to your hours. The Samsung fix was a simple capacitor replacement done by local contract television repair shops. They refused to repair anything but the capacitors on main supply board, even though they KNEW the off and on problem caused a failure in the EPROM programming and forced YOU the consumer to pay over $200 to replace the main board. This is a massive scam....Samsung is not an honorable company....and people still buy their defective product with zero customer service support!

    Well. Today the repairman arrived to replace my capacitors since my tv (same model as yours, lol) had the same issues you had. Unfortunately, just like you, the problem wasn't just with the capacitors (which, btw, had all budged and leaked) but also with the motherboard. e_o It cost me a pretty penny and, as you also warned, wasn't covered in the 'courteosy visit'. Out of curiousity, I mentioned to the repairman all the issues with the Samsung tvs, to which he kinda brushed off. He claimed the Samsung tvs were fine and that all the reports coming out had more to do with lots of people buying Samsung and, therefore, more chances of discovering problems than the less popular/less bought brands. >_> Still. Even if that were true, at the back of my mind I couldn't excuse the fact that these tvs broke down within 2-3 years, especially when they're supposed to be state-of-the-art. I've had all my old plasma-screened and lightbulbed tvs for more than 8 years. It's ridiculous they last longer than these LCDs. I'm switching to Vizio and have warned all my friends to be wary of Samsung tvs. I would forgive the company if they offered to repair the defects in their tvs. But since they claim no responsibility for their crappy tvs, they've lost my trust and don't deserve any more business with me.

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  10 років тому +1

      Tammy, I think a lot of people have lost total faith in the Samsung product, in particular, their televisions. I hope you had a chance to deal with what Samsung calls their Senior or Executive level CSR. You have to get by that entry level representative. Persistence will normally result in being passed up the line. They keep track of every conversation by computer. That next level may authorize the repair you need at no cost if it is the capacitors. If they repair the capacitors and you are unlucky, like myself, then it could be the main board has been corrupted by the bad capacitors. Like a computer, the power issues that are a result of the underpowered/poorly made capacitors, will render the main board inoperative. Its a good thing that you bought a new set by another brand. I did too. However, after repairing the disgusting Samsung I handed it down to one of my daughters. It still runs, but I have zero faith and will NEVER EVER purchase any product that bears the Samsung name. Their corporate customer service program is a total sham. Keep pestering them, you might get the gift cards! Also, I don't blame those youngsters on the telephones in the New Jersey headquarters. They just do what they are told. I do not know what state you live in, however, you should complain to your state's Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney Generals Office. That is what made Samsung look my way and do something, even though the set still turned on and off after the capacitors. Samsung has a corrupt business model, they made a mistake with purchasing those defective capacitors and they are hiding from that decision. New Jersey was really hot on this issue. I had a New Jersey television affiliate contact me for an interview in Boston. The class action lawsuit is painful. You really don't get 10 cents on the dollar when compared to what we paid for these sets. Go get em Tammy, don't settle for the bum's rush.

      Tyler, welcome to the yellow brick road of Samsung. Your television is well over the manufacturers warranty date. Most folks do not purchase a Geek Squad extended warranty so your battle is just beginning. Get your serial number and model number off of your set and call Samsung. Don't stop calling. The newer sets like yours do not have many capacitor issues which is what haunted most of us years ago. Don't let up on them. Even though your warranty is expired, if you are experiencing a capacitor failure you may get a free in home repair. Depends on where you live. Expect them to say NO to everything. Their customer service skills are lacking. If you got 6 years out of this set, its a miracle. Not many of these electronic televisions live long lives, they are nothing more than big computers! Be prepared for Samsung to send you a lengthy page of troubleshooting steps you must perform. Very frustrating.

  • @nvdwarriorLtc
    @nvdwarriorLtc  12 років тому

    @77MyEsha the standard free repair by Samsung is for two capacitors on the powersupply board. If they see the two other capacitors have swollen caps, they will also repair those, but only if swollen. This is a minimum fix by Samsung, trying to get by with the smallest cost to them. It isn't worth worrying over because the current info says the motherboard failure is actually our fault from trying to keep using the television with bad capacitors. So, if the set keeps working..you are lucky.

    I had the capacitor replaced in April of 2012 on my Samsung. I bought it in April of 2010, My warranty was over this April. Today low and behold.. On and Off, ON and Off... The Tv won't start. I called Samsung, and they said that my tv is covered for a new capacitor and power supply, anything above and beyond that I have to pay for. I will update after they come tomorrow. I have seen a lot of people with this problem, and find it funny that in TWO years I would have to replace that TWICE, when I have Tv's in my vacation home that were manufact. in the early 90's and they work like a charm!!

    as mentioned in some of the videos, but that made no difference. From what you all have said, it's not worth the time to even call Samsung...Hopefully, word will get out & they will learn that selling people crap & not caring, is not a good way to do business!

    Sam. Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit closed several years ago. It was handled by a law firm in Oklahoma. That was a specific class action against Samsung for a very restricted category of HDTV's that were experiencing the power on power off cycling issue due to underpowered/inferior capacitors that were used on the power supply board. I began this video because all of us were getting the Samsung run-around. The most anyone actually got from the lawsuit was around $300. I still lost $200 for the mother board I replaced because Samsung absolutely refuses to admit it was caused by the capacitors. That lawsuit ended in February of 2011 and only dealt with television made in the 2007-2009 yeargroup. I would recommend that you follow my suggestions I give others. Be persistent with Samsung's customer service reps. Demand to talk to a Senior or Executive Level Customer Service Rep regarding your problem. Keep calling until you get a real answer. If you, like so many others, receive a long printout that directs you to download updated software or tells you to unhook all other electronic devices such as your cable DVR..then you are screwed. That is the Samsung happy dance. You get nada. Don't give up without a fight. If your set was in the original class action lawsuit serial number and type classification, they just might repair your capacitors. If you own one of the newer LED or 3D sets you are out of luck. Beyond our first group of people in the class action lawsuit, it appears no one else is willing to take on Samsung again for the same issue caused by other factors. They got away with murder. Never again will a Samsung product live inside my home. Good luck

      and again it was Not just Samsung that used Cheap china made capacitors that fail have had to replace them in other big name MFG TV's Too So buying a different Brand Don't Guarantee you want have the same china made capacitors in it

      Chris. The first and most important thing is to determine if Samsung will fix your set for free. Call the Samsung hotline number in New Jersey. Make sure you have your television information handy. You need to know the model number. Since the class action suit has closed, those of you who suffer the capacitor failure which results in power on power off issues should receive a free maintenance repair from a Samsung contractor. They are doing this all over the country. They were not helpful in the years before the lawsuit. Once they repair/replace the faulty capacitors you may be lucky and the set will work. If you are unfortunate, as I was, you may have to look further into repairs like replacing the main board which may be corrupted by the repeated off and on actions. DO NOT CONTINUE to use the set. You will be blamed for corruption of the so called mother board. That costs a minimum of $240 to fix. LIsten carefully to the Customer Service Reps presentation, particularly when she explains that you may be responsible for repairs beyond the capacitors. All of this depends on the model number of your television. Good luck. Be persistent. Since the lawsuit they have been slightly more flexible. As a corporation, they suck.

    Happened to my 40inch about a year ago. I opened it up and saw two bad 10v capacitors bulging with black ooze. I replaced them and upped it to 25v capacitors and it's been working fine ever since. Last week my moms 37inch Samsung started giving the same problem. The capacitors were not bulging but had a little bit off black ooze. I questioned if they needed changing and was unaware of any other problems so I just changed them. No luck TV giving same problem. I came across this video today so I'm going to try and disconnect the side panel buttons. I sure hope that's it because of its a bad motherboard I'm screwed, might as well get a new TV. Wish me luck.

    Nice, I wish on and off was my problem, mine has no power at all, and the technicians that they sent to wouldn't fix the problem even though it was under warranty, they said not to make the trip to see them but instead get back in touch with Samsung and ask them about something about a 431 form. Now after getting the run around for the whole day I tried get in touch with one that's closer, funny they're listed in the yellow pages as well as white, I also looked them up online and their number was the same but no answer, I tried all day thinking that they had been off that workday but when I went through the same thing the next day I decided that this set which I was waiting on showed up in April 2015, which gave me great joy until later 2015 it died, now it's January 2016, and I've now been without a set for over 4.5 months now, I'm still hoping to get it fixed someday, but until then it'll just remain on the stand while I use my tablet to keep me entertained, and it hasn't let me down yet. Have a pleasant day.

      +Tony P. Tony your set sound like it qualified for a warranty repair, one year from date of manufacture. If you have a newer television, an LED or even 3D they have power malfunctions for other reasons. It may not be a simple capacitor fix like some of our older sets we deal with here on You Tube. I am confused over the way the repair was attempted and I have never heard of a 431 Form. Samsung contracts repairs of their televisions under warranty with thousands of local repair shops. Your repair shop may be asking you to obtain a Samsung authorization to repair. Call Samsung. Don't stop calling. Be a pain in the neck. No way should you be sitting there with a piece of junk waiting for a repair? They keep track of every phonecall made so don't stop calling and ask for an Executive Level Customer Service Representative. I assume you are in the United States? Samsung has different rules in other countries and all of those rules are bad for you the consumer. Let me know how you make out.

      I'll try just that, actually I've done that already, when Rick the rep said it was still under warranty, but he did put me on hold to make sure he had the right answer even though he saw when I got it as I was asked for model number, which is when he told me and of their participating technicians could fix my problem, but not Unique Technicians who want a receipt even when they see it on their computers, saying that a lot of people have been coming in and they've been turning them away unless they wanted to pay for something that is still under warranty, which is totally stupid if someone would even think of asking another to do that and for those who went through with it. Thank you for the reply.

    Kimster I am thrilled that you made it. There are a lot of different dates associated with the settlement. One of the agreements was that Samsung would repair the identified (an ugly word) televisions only until a certain date. It actually is like an extended service warranty, but only, and I stress this point, only if it is a capacitor problem. You could end up paying for the repair if it is NOT the caps. Good job.

    I bought my Samsung TV in Oct 2013 and now facing this problem. Really annoyed that i cant use it as my kids used to watch their internet cartoons and songs on this tv. I think samsung in order to beat sony and grabing the tv market share really made these TVs in a hurry and in doing so didnt pay attention to quality or the customer

    Thanks! I see the class action suit achieved a Settlement. Everyone should check out Samsung's website or just google to find the details of the Settlement. I'll be calling Samsung to get this taken care of. Fingers crossed.

    James, that is possible but so far, almost every Samsung television has been suffering from the underpowered, poorly made capacitors mostly in the 2007-2008 timeframe. What concerns me are the poor folks who purchased sets up to two years after the sets were made, meaning the warranty has expired and the monster is yet to rear its ugly head. Does not matter what size screen..they all appear to have this disease and Samsung wants it all to go away. Thanks for your info.

    I ordered the "mother board," for $115 USD earlier this week. Mine was staying on, but, the picture would go off and on and sound would stay on. I will be installing it myself. The TV is 7-years-old.

    Robert. Forgive me for using the Geek Squads description of the main board. It is NOT the T-Conn board but the main board into which almost everything onthe back of the set is plugged into or connected to. The cost of the main board itself, that Samsung charges Geeks is $220. They then tack on another hundread for installation. Samsung would not let me keep the original board which the lawyers for the class action suit wanted. So I took pictures of each step of the process and of the board.

    I've just replaced 4 blown caps and so far my Samsung is now fine. Mine started with white noise on startup then few days later did random switch on off itself. After new caps in no more white noise but chiming sound back. It came in german and would then switch off after 1 minute so thought "i give up" only to find that sleep timer had defaulted to 1 minute!! Set this to off and now all good. Remember to get cap/polarity righr way around!

    i used to manage a repair shop, i hope to reopen the business and have a place that's honest and charge a fair price. My policy was if I couldn't fix your set I would not charge you anything. TV's are not built like they used to be, these new sets have a lot of issues.

    Unfortunately, my "power cord replacement fix" seemed to work for a couple of weeks, but now, it's back to the "turning itself off" again. Sent a message to Samsung, and this was their reply...
    Thank you for contacting Samsung. From the Email description, I understand that the TV, UN60H6350AFXZA, power cycles when there is interference when a car drives on the street. To make sure that this is not caused by a glitch in the system, follow the steps below.
    1. With your TV powered on Unplug your TV from the wall outlet. Check if there are any damages on the power cord.
    2. Wait for 30 seconds.
    3. Plug your TV back in, make sure the cables are connected firmly on both the ends.
    4. If the TV is connected to the power outlet through a surge protector, disconnect the TV from the surge protector and connect it directly to the power outlet and check if the issue persists.
    5. To check for grounding issues, unplug any other device plugged into to same plug/circuit as the TV. The flickering may be caused by a bad ground in an external device (DVD player, VCR, Game Systems, etc.) attached to your TV. If possible try changing the location of the TV and check if the issue persists.
    6. If the power cycling allows enough time in between powering on and off try updating your TV to the latest Firmware to isolate the issue. I see that the recent available update for this TV is ver.2134.2. You can update your TV firmware in 2 ways.
    a. Online, through Menu > Support > Software update > Update now. Please note that your TV should be connected to network before updating TV firmware.
    b. Offline. If the firmware update is not successful through network, you shall update the firmware using the USB flash drive method. Before upgrading your TV firmware, please you check the current firmware version on the TV. Using the TV's remote, follow Menu > Support > Contact Samsung to find the current firmware version on the TV. You will find it beside the Software version. If the available version on the TV is older than ver.2134.2, please upgrade the firmware. You can download the firmware update for your TV by clicking on the link given below. It starts downloading automatically once you click the link. If you experience any issues opening the above link, you can copy into any browser:
    downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/FM/201506/20150610185808441/T-MST14AKUC.zip
    Download the firmware file, unzip the file, copy it to an empty USB flash drive and insert it to the TV's USB port to perform the update. Please follow the link below to download the instructions on how to update the firmware on the TV using USB drive method. It starts downloading automatically once you click the link. If you experience any issues opening the above link, you can copy into any browser:
    downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/FM/201406/20140612200321076/2014_TV_Firmware_Upgrade_Instruction_T-MST14AKUC.pdf
    7. If the issue still persists, try to reset the TV. Below is the link with the steps to reset the TV.
    Important: When you perform a Factory Reset, all your settings revert to factory defaults. These settings include all picture and sound settings, all channel menu settings including memorized channels, all clock and timer settings, and any other settings you made through the menu. In addition, if you had your TV professionally calibrated and the calibration was not done through the service menu, you will lose the calibration.
    support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup//pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=544921&modelname=UN60H6350AF&modelcode=UN60H6350AFXZA
    If you have checked the above steps and if still the issue persists the TV has to be diagnosed by the technician. Please file an online service request to get your TV serviced. You can use the link below to file an online service request:
    www.samsung.com/us/support/service/request
    Once you file a service request, you will receive a call with in 2 to 3 business days to set up an appointment from the service technician. If you find any difficulty in filing the service request, get back to us with the following details. I would be glad to file an online service request on your behalf.
    My TV was made in Tijuana, Mexico.
    I will never own another Samsung product.

      REALHEAVEN SpiritWorld I am sorry that you have also fallen into the very large hole we call Samsung. They know exactly what it is. They offer a solution that in the end results in the replacement of two lousy capacitors on your power supply board. But, trying to get Samsung to perform that repair...and they will use some contracted repair service to do it...that would be a miracle. What they don't tell you is that the capacitor failure leads to corruption of the main board. It must be replaced. I feel your pain and have for years. Thanks for updating us. A lot of people are still being hit by this failure. It is a lousy way to treat customers.

    My LN52B530 started turning itself off then on repeatedly. If I could hit the power button when it came on it would have an official power down command and stay off. Unplugging the TV for a few minutes would solve it for a short while. Came across a vid explaining that under certain humidity conditions the physical buttons on the side would cause this or capacitors. Ripped it open, no bulging caps so disconnected the side panel and boom, worked like a charm for 8 months until it would not turn on at all. Of course power boards are scarcer now so pulled it open and caps look fine, did not painfully test them, instead I disconnected the cable, running from the power board to video input board, on both ends and reconnected them thinking could have been a loose connection, boom it worked. I even reconnect the side panel. No parts replaced, no service call and we're 3 weeks in with TV, PS3 and Wii U rocking it out for hours straight. Nearest I can figure the cable from power board to media input board was poorly seated, demanding resolution of the game systems was too much for the poor connection to handle, we rarely had issue with TV shows. Give it a try, it's free! UPDATE: 17 months later and the TV hasn't missed a beat.

    Hi folks. Since the class action suite time period has closed I thought it would be helpful to provide you folks who are still looking for help some info. I have inserted a URL address into the video which will take you to the Buzz Media site which has some great info on the problem to include the contact phone number for Samsung. These capacitor failures are still happening as the televisions age and the capacitor issue surfaces. Hang in there. Samsung will have to help eventually.

    I came across this video after searching for an explanation why my Samsung 55" Smart TV turns on by itself. It doesn't do it often but it does do it. Tonight I just finished watching a program, turned the TV off. Came back 10 min later and it was powered on again. No picture, just the Samsung Logo was turned on. I picked up the remote to power it off again but it wouldn't respond to the OFF signal right a way. Last time it did this and wouldn't turn off I thought my remote batteries might need replacing. Well, they're fresh batteries now and like before the LED on the remote flickers when I press the OFF button so it's sending a signal out but the Samsung logo stays lit. After around 5 or 6 times pressing the OFF button the TV turned off. My remote is around 6ft away from the face of the TV so I doubt it's the remote not reaching the TV. And the remote sure didn't turn the TV on by itself sitting on the coffee table while I was in the other room.
    Also I do notice sometimes while watching a program the screen will go blank while the Samsung logo stayed lit. After about 5 seconds the picture comes back. This happens almost 1x a day and is annoying. I replaced the HDMI cable and the connections are tight and secure. Very bizarre behavior with this Samsung 55" SmartTV, Model: UN55F8000BFXZA.

    Same exact issue with mine. I have a 46" that powers off and on every time I turn it on, does this for about 2 or 3 mins. I'll call Samsung and hope to see it stop, but thanks for your input. I was ready to buy another one. I'll try your methods. Sounds pretty fishy for sure.

    • @nvdwarriorLtc
      @nvdwarriorLtc  9 років тому

      Sharen it is worse than fishy. For those of us who have been dealing with this failure for over seven years now, the frustration level dealing with Samsung is maxed out. Depending on when your television was made, they may just not bother to help you at all by referencing the now closed action lawsuit. Don't feel bad that class action lawsuit got some of us two new capacitors that had failed and started our other problems. If you do continue to use your television you will eventually kill the main boards logic and that is a major replacement cost. Samsung will blame you entirely for main board failure. Just cause you turned it on and off. In reality, Samsung is hoping we will all go away. We are not going away. Everyday I turn on my computer I have a new friend desperate because this same off and on failure has started. It is cheap to replace the two bad capacitors. It may cost you a few bucks if you have to take it to a repair shop, in labor charges. However, after they replace the bad capacitors, usually after 45 minutes of being powered up you might still have the off and on problem. This means the main board is trashed. I understand that these boards can now be purchased at much less than the $220 I had to pay. Just don't stop complaining at the entry level customrer service rep. Ask to speak to an Executive Level Service Rep because you are not going to go away. Maybe this will help you. Good luck. Samsung = a really lousy company.
