This channel is dedicated to the memory of Deborah Makepeace (1957-1999). At the age of fifteen (and while still in theater school) she got her breakout playing the leading role of Sara Crewe in the 1973 BBC television remake of A Little Princess (based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and originally starring Shirley Temple in 1939). The following year, the blossoming sixteen-year-old English rose headlined the six-part children's adventure series The Chinese Puzzle. With her effervescent energy and timeless beauty, she continued to star in various television produced costume dramas. In 1975 she had a small role in the BBC Play of the Month adaptation of The Apple Cart, which starred Nigel Davenport and Helen Mirren. That same year, she played Princess Helena in the ATV series Edward the Seventh, alongside Annette Crosbie and Timothy West. Other notable television appearances included Angels (1976), Penmarric (1979), Byron: A Personal Tour (1981) (as Claire Clairmont) and Sorry! (1987). She was also a successful theater actress with roles in rep theater productions of The Tempest, While the Sun Shines and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Bianca in a 1984 stage adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. Her life came to a tragic and premature end on February 2, 1999 after a battle with cancer.
*I am not related or connected to Deborah Makepeace's family. I am just a fan of classic British cinema and television who is paying tribute to a wonderful actress.
