The most heartfelt Brahms I have ever heard. We miss you Lars. We will come back to this Brahms again and again. Thank you so much for what you have left for us. Rest in peace.
He and I were next door neighbours for seven years. I live 4th floor, he lived in the 2nd. We could often hear him practice in the evening, very softly with his digital piano so not to disturb anybody. Jesus, I would have paid entrance to sit and listen to him practice! :-) - Not only was he a genius musician, but he also was a wonderful person, he loved to laugh, he had no star behaviour at all. We miss you, Lars!
Thanks for the beautiful anecdote. I am not surprised by his gentleness. A huge loss for humanity and the music world. May he rest in peace. The story touches me deeply since I lost my beloved closest bro Roberto to lymphoma as well. I grieved Lars' death because it brought such a flood of memories.
Hearing the the sweet and yet sad elegance of his playing makes one believe that perhaps he played this in his heart when he left us. A warm and wonderful musician, without pretense and full of humanity.
A compelling interpretation. Not overly rubato and played with dignity and simplicity, but deeply, deeply felt. Thank you Lars and thank you Brahms. This is a very interesting piece to listen to different musicians perform. They each draw out different tendrils and secrets.
@@Scriabin_fan I can't say for Skyrim, but while listening to Lars' performance, I was filled with the longing so characteristic of my love of Brahms. He evokes memory and nostalgia, producing a sad, dusky light and autumnal feeling for life, or rather from it. And like Brahms' music, the moments life follows, the level it finds by utter dint of gravity, add up to a wonderful, if painfully alluvial, course, meandering through as many difficult as joyous circumstances. Chief among them here is the realization that Lars knew, while playing what are possibly the most soul-attenuating moments in all of Brahms' works, that he had not long to live, and so not long to cherish the music that made life for him worth living, as it does for many of us. The proximity of life's dénouement brings the fragrance of finality--not sweet, but hopefully sublime--that Brahms always seems to understand. Trying to describe such tender but universal thoughts makes my tears well. I approach Brahms with trepidation these days exactly because he so effortlessly draws forth memories of the many, many dear ones I've lost. And never only those, but all the grieved of all the grieving. It is elegaic music for the civilized, who know well that civilization is a cenotaph.
Thank you for putting into beautiful and well articulated words how I feel about this masterpiece of Brahms and Mr. Vogt’s interpretation of it. I frequently come to revisit this sublime video and yet it makes my heart and soul weep.
There is not much more beautiful music for piano than this. And it is touching to watch Vogt's expressions and how the orchestra is listening, seemingly touched.
Ruhe in Frieden.
RIP Lars. I just discovered your playing of this wonderful piece I am working on and it’s breathtakingly beautiful. I will look back into your works and remember you. ❤
was er für sphärische himmlische Klänge schenken konnte ......... was für ein Genie Lars Vogt, wir hätten uns gerne länger an deinen wunderbaren Gaben gelabt!
I can't stop listening to Lars playing this absolutely superb piece. It's exquisite. I was so lucky to have my piano teacher also play this to me during my lesson this week. What a treat to hear it being played live right next to me. I had to hold back the tears because I find this piece so moving.
Oh.
Ruhe in Frieden!

Touching. When I hear him playing, I get the picture, completely.
Thank you for sharing that experience. I had a feeling he was a lovable man. I'm still so, so sad.

Very sad that I didn't discover your music until you left this world. Thank you for this. Rest in peace.
IMHO The most hauntingly beautiful piano solo written by Brahms, ....or anyone else.

That is a wonderful thing to share.
How is it a life lesson?
