In this incredible footage we get to see a bigfin squid very close up in detail. As far as I'm aware it has never been published publicly before. This new magnapinna observation shows a new angle of the squid in it's famous "T pose", before getting disturbed by the camera and swimming away.
Unfortunately I do not have many details of this sighting, other than it possibly taking place in the Gulf of Mexico.

this might be the most terrifying looking big fin i’ve ever seen, especially at the start of the video. The colors, background,a hd the way it just ominously sits there, hovering so slowly, is incredibly eerie.
To me it looked like it was taking a nap, got woken up and was scared off.

Now Imagine for the bigfin's point of view: your just living your life, walking along, when all the sudden a blinding light shows up, and you think you are about to die as you hear the mechanical wirring of the camera. I'd be scared too.
this one is insane because the rov comes up this close to it, but in my opinion the original 2007 video is still the most ominous one. The green hue, the fast twitchy camera movements and zoom, the squid just hovering frozen at a distance looking like it's judging you with its long tentacles, the analog look and numbers on screen. It all combines to make the perfect creepy deep sea video, and I love it.
This squid is not that scary upclose as i thought it would be... It's actually kinda cute! Altho it looks menacing from a far distance
The more footage I see of this amazing creature, the less creepy and more fascinating it becomes!

@@haribo_harvell lmaoo yeah I remember I had a nightmare once where I drifted into this thing's tentacles and became ensnared as it slowly reeled me in. Terrifying but I can't look away!
i totally agree i kind of researched it cause i like creepy deep water creatures but it’s actually very interesting and cool to watch…not as creepy

I think this might be my favourite recording of the Magnapinna ever.
The squid itself is unlike other recordings, it's a lot fatter (for lack of a better term) with its fins much higher up and with distinct colouration making it look much less like a squid than usual.
You actually get a really detailed look at its fins too until it suddenly jolts away at 0:26 and you get to see the extent of its appendages and the way they wrap around each other, capturing it in its idle and swimming fazes.
I don't know where this was filmed or why this is but the deep ocean here seems so incredibly desolate, even more so than normal, there's absolutely nothing there other than little bits of matter floating around, the ROV and the squid itself. These all make for a really wild visual.

A super interesting thing I’ve never noticed before, when the squid gets spooked and you can see the very bottom of its arms it looks like it was holding the ends of some in these little corkscrew shapes. If the T-pose is their feeding stance that could be how they’re more likely to catch something than the arms just hanging down limply. At 0:29-0:36. Idk I’m not a squid expert. Incredible video though! 🦑

I mean, it's kinda cute, like a regular squid except it has very very long tangly arms. And the fact that it's a deep sea creature might also add to the spooky factor. Other than that it doesn't look too scary when we see very close footage of it. It's a little cute.

The original drill sight footage of this thing made it look like the dawn of the this planet but now that their in high def they are quite cute

We fear the unknown greatly; we sometimes forget to appreciate the things that we are unsure about. I was scared of this squid, but then I found this channel, and I feel better about it! Sure, it’s creepy (everything that lives in water that I don’t know understand is creepy to me), but it’s also fascinating! Nature is really cool!

There is something oddly Calm about this Squid It seems like it doesn't want to harm anyone but will certainly do so if it needs to hunt for food

The thing you gotta think about is, this thing is alive. It has reactions, it can move, that's just crazy. If I went swimming deep down and then suddenly this thing came into view, ominously hovering there like a forgotten ancient god, I would probably take my life right on that spot instead of risking touching or making it react in any way, like I'm actually scared shitless of that thing, I wouldn't even try diving back up to get away from it, as soon as that thing comes into view it's over for you

Aah! It had to swim away. If the ROV kept it's distance we could have seen it maybe catch something! It seems like a missed opportunity but now I guess we know it's not blind and can notice things.

If Magnapinna have a sleep state I think this one was catching some Zzzs. His fins were just barely moving. They really can't see us at all. They never react until an RO bumps them or they start getting Tornadoed by RO's prop wash. I watched a juvenile on another video here float through some machinery and not react one bit. Cute little bugger.
