I just stumbled on your video and very happy to know about the book. MGM was directly across the street from the Catholic school I attended for several years through most of the 70s. I also lived a few blocks away too. There were quite a few times when friends and I would climb through a fence and play on Lot 2. Depending on how noisy we were we often went undetected by the lone security at an entrance on Overland Blvd. I only wish I had the forethought to take a camera with me on one of our visits there. I was more concerned about playing hide-n-go-seek or tag on the building facades. Watching the movies bring my own childhood memories.

@Chris Pim - That's incredibly cool, Chris! Photos definitely would've been nice, but you have those memories which are infinitely more valuable and I'm very jealous!

I have had that excellent book since it first came out, it's so fascinating, have to say it's probably one of my favourite books & went over to L.A. to do a tour of Sony Studios on the strengh of this book. Pity MGM went down the drain at that location. Sony have looked after the studios well, but as we all know those marvelous backlots have long gone.

I'm doing the Sony tour next week. I read this book this week, since I'm guessing the tour guides won't know a lot of the MGM history!

@@ChiDavid1 the tour was ok, it was just a real thrill to be walking around there, the thrill of being there was better than the actual tour in my opinion, yes sony don't talk much about MGM itself & only briefly touch of a few things when taking about varous sound stages and classic movies, we were shown into the foyer area of the Thalberg building which was thrilling for me, but that's as far as we got inside that building. Hopefully the tour will be improved on for your tour. I thought it was a little short in duration and a little rushed at times, even though it was an hour tour. I would love to go in there again some time.

Cinema wouldn't be what it is today without MGM, definitely a big part of entertainment history!!
