I came back to this video because we are going "back to school" soon after our planned winter break is over and I'm trying to remind myself the basics. It's easy to get carried away when browsing Pinterest and seeing all the exciting possibilities.... I just wanted to let you know that I really do take your wisdom to heart and am very thankful for it. I first read your book Better Together and it sparked inspiration in me. Then I found your book Plan Your Year and used that right before we started our first homeschooling year. I have four kids, oldest is in kindergarten right now, and we are loving it. I seriously feel so blessed and thankful that I get to do this. I've used so many of your recommendations and advice and noticing many similarities between us, even chose some of the curriculum you've shared. And they have been a hit with our family and I plan to continue with them all. We have our frustrating times for sure-- that's just living life with your people-- but the wonderful times far far far outweigh the bad. Thank you for being an inspiration to me and taking the time out of your life to share these things with people like me. God's blessings to you and your family

This video couldn’t have come at a better time. I have a 3rd grader and 1st grader. We’ve been homeschooling since my oldest was in 1st grade. It’s been so difficult to get away from public school expectations. I’ve tried to keep things under 15 mins per subject but it’s been difficult to fit things in that “they need to know”. Thank you for reaffirming what I’ve been feeling in my heart to keep it short, simple, and fun. All we’ve known in our homeschool journey has been worksheets, so it’ll be a bit of a challenge to steer away from them. Thank you for this video!

Oh my, when you talked about “just skip the fighting part” of math I *cackled* remembering back when I tried to get through a whole Saxon lesson every day with my 2nd grader 😅 so glad we found a better way to homeschool since then!

My son is 8 and going to be 9 going into 3rd grade. We found out he had academic grade level of K. They didnt teach him to read, write , days of the week, what state he lived in months seasons. City he lives in etc. Hes a only child and can talk like a adult but .. so i went off on the school cuz they were going to mive him to 3rd grade knowing hes no where near 3rd grade level. So i pulled him out and going to teach him my self. Here in NY we have to say hes in 3rd grade but i can go back to K and 1st to start. Should we do small amount of time with reading ,writing and math. Or longer time schedules because hes older. Thanks. Im learning alot from your courses. ❤

I would go longer. What you want to do is watch for signs of frustration and stop the lesson before he gets frustrated.
