1:28 there’s no bugs, just happy little accidents
Tech Crew we don't make mistakes.....
There is no murder, just happy little mishaps.
Tech Crew if you can't fix it, integrate it. That's how bugs turn into features. True story ;)
There's also no Ctrl+Z so.... XD
Tech Crew pinned by Sam and niko wow
Confirmed: 3rd Corridor Channel coming that’s just Niko painting and giving existential monologues.
They should call it Niko Ross.
"Riko"
hahahaha
Connor Wood pls
i'd sub.
I love how Niko usually has such a calm demeanor but is so passionate and creative. Even when he’s talking about jury duty. He’s such a storyteller.
Hey Niko, Testors Dullcoat is generally considered the best for putting a matte finish on models. Just make sure that the conditions (temperature and humidity) are good for spraying so that you don't frost the models. To make the models really durable, spray a gloss coat on before the matte coat as gloss is generally stronger. Let me know if you have any questions!
To add to this it's really important to properly shake a matte varnish can before use. If the matting agent isn't mixed in with the varnish as the can has settled, then it will look like Niko's tiles did. It might be that a better shake is all that's needed.
Yup! Forgot to mention that! Using a gloss coat can can sometimes fix frosting, but it's must better to keep it from happening in the first place.
Came here to say this too. Testors Dullcoat is what I use for finishing all of my mini's now.
Gloss varnish being stronger is a common myth. Two coats of satin or matte varnish are just as effective. Besides the gloss from the first coat of varnish is actually hard to get rid of and needs more dull coats (higher risk of potentially screwing the model with frosting)
Thanks for letting me know! I've never tried it myself
The triangle ratio looks great on my Sabre Pyramid!
more votes on this comment please!!!
Lj Saldana the power of the pyramid
I came here to say this 😂
pls play your catan game on node
mohaalover500 yes pls do
I second this, would love to see the game in play.
Yessss I would love that
Yeeeeeeesssss
Can we expect a settlers of catan video/videos on NODE??!?!?
Jack Price I hope so
Haha, play with the ladies so they can ask for some wood ;)
That would be awesome
that would be preeeeety boring to watch. "i rolled a 5. You get some wheat, want to trade for my wool?" What drama, what comedy!
Opulopful Stratix When you have the enthusiasm and character that these guys can all do really well, you’ll have a great video. Their D&D videos are a good example of that
John Wick 3 is gonna be someone destroying Niko's Catan set and him going berserk
Best idea yet.
But Niko is so chill
@@NessaOfDorthonion it's the calm ones you have to worry about upsetting. Because it's so hard to get them upset, that when you do, you dont knownwhat kind of Hell they can bring you lol
In painting that Catan set, I received some semblance of hope... an opportunity to grieve unalone... and you... took that from me.
As a miniature painter I can say congratulations on finding dry brushing. I’m not a great painter so that helped sooo much when I learned it. Another technique worth checking out is washing. Helps you get the deep shadows in the crevices. Love that you guys do a ton of different stuff. Keep up the awesome work!
Hyped for a Corridor feature film!!
What happened with this?
@@Pooply21 i'm wondering the same thing?
They dont want to make big budget feature films anymore. They said they want to operate more in the space between youtube and hollywood
I could imagine that their logo in the opening credits would be the only one in history to get a standing ovation from the audience - even Cinema Sins would subtract 1000 sins for it lol
A youtuber movie that isn't a High school drama? Impossible
did it ever come out?
@@wasabichips wondering the same thing

Hey Niko! The best thing to use is brush on dull coat. I used to paint models a lot, and the spray coat always came out a little shiny. Using the brush on dullcoat after the spray will give you the best results.
Also, dont be afraid to use a little bit of your highlight colour to drybrush on after the dullcoat if its still to shiny
Finally! A video I can watch on my Saber tablet!!!
You should make all the ocean tiles shiny with the spray you currently have. You said you were going for a summer look and this would be the way to make the water shine in the summer sun.
I agree gloss on the water
Hey. I want to let you guys know. This is one of my favorite videos to come back to when things are getting a bit stressful or I let my self get a bit overwhelmed in life. I like to come back and here what is said as a remind that, sometimes you just need to switch gears to help with letting up the stress slightly.
I can imagine something going wrong at Corridor and Niko just storming off to angrily paint stuff. And then later in his life, he can look back on his work and be like "I painted this when the server crashed and we lost all our files" or "I painted this when Wren fell off his One Wheel. Good times..."
The magnet thing is cool. I'm glad the Catan set turned out so great!
That's what made the movie End of Watch such a good movie. They didn't go with the Hollywood standards, they approached small investors so they could bring in their own creativity. The feel of the movie is intense and makes it one of my favorite movies. (Also because of the realism, little things like no finger on the trigger if you're not shooting, or the funny moments when you're on a dull patrol)
Just picked up the triangle tablet by Sabre, video looks great.
Triangle is old, circle is the future!
I'm more of a hexagon kinda-guy, but meh, whatever floats your rectangular boat.
I personally prefer the hexagonal monitors.. like why would I downgrade from 4 sides to 3 when I can upgrade to 6!.. maybe you could film with a hexagonal Lense? Pleaseee! 😂
Well you can arrange 6 equal triangles to make a perfect hexagon. And you will be able to take advantage of both 3 standard and 3 inverted orientation monitors. This makes triangles clearly the best choice.
Niko! I'm a miniature painter for tabletop wargames.
Using a gloss varnish spray isn't a bad thing as you can always spray a matte on top of the gloss. This actually is a common practice in miniature wargaming as it tends to offer better protection for the models.
If you're just wanting an easy spray, Krylon makes a matte spray can that is alright. If you don't mind the little extra effort, Vallejo makes a brush on matte varnish that you can use a brush (not one you intend to keep/use for regular painting) with.
Of course, those of us in the hobby that go the extra mile use airbrushes.
I hope that was helpful!
The PIRAMID by Sabre!
BlackSombrer0 I was looking all throughout the comments just for this
Yep, I had same thought
I would love to see this movie, it would make my day. To finally be able to go to a theater and bring my friends in and say "Hey, I watch these guys on UA-cam. THIS is what they're about and what you've been missing every other day."
Keep up the milestones guys, can't wait to see you on the big screen!
Hey, if you put slots in the sides of your storage box, you wouldn't need the spacers to keep the tiles apart and it would be way easier to pack up. Just slot the pieces in like an old CD storage tray (Have wider spacing for the tall pieces) . Great looking set!
Hi Niko a good idea for Catan is to have more tiles and play on a 6/6/6/6/6. But to balance it you need extra numbers (1 of 6 and 8) 2 of 4,5 and 9,10. 1 of the rest. for tiles 3-4 extra deserts and 1 of each resource tile). Then a lake piece, all lake tiles provide 3-1 trade. Then your point-goal is 15 and just have alot of fun. To generate a board, you can use dice to detemin what goes where.
I often think about how I have been following Sam and Niko for so long but for me they are just extraordinary dudes who like to make movies and videos but in the future they might be like super famous sought after directors like Spielberg or Cameron and when I am like 70 I can say "Yeah, I was watching their stuff before they even got into movies" thats the future I want to live in
You guys need to make a Node Settlers of Catan Video with Niko's new set. I'd Love to see that.
To be honest, that last minute comment about triangular video editing is really smart. It's the only viable format that allows taking an entire side for functions and still having a properly scaled remainder for the viewing area.
A matte spray used a TON in custom doll/toy making is "Mr. Super Clear". downside is that the fumes are super toxic so you'll want to use it outside or in a well vented area you can vacate for a bit after using, but it's really highly recommended
You guys have been redefining filmmaking for years but the triangle aspect ratio is perhaps the most groundbreaking thing you've ever been on the forefront of. So excited to see the creative ways directors make use of this amazing new tech.
Man, you know, I was just starting to have some buyer's remorse over my new Triangle™ monitor but then you guys came around. Thank you for going ahead of the curve and using the aspect ratio of the future.
If you want a spray finish that has no shine try workable fixative, it's meant to spray charcoal drawings to preserve layers or finished areas. Look out tho it tends to make everything a touch darker.
"we're gonna go out to shoot the movie that we want to shoot, and we'll shoot it in the way we shoot things"
And that's also the way WE want to see, very nice!
The swoop sound effect following sam’s pointing was great
New fav vid in a while :) Loved seeing the catan being finished (still wish I had one) and KEEP US UPDATED ABOUT THE MOVIE!!!! I think it's so cool to know all the back end, struggles, and how you actually get the movie produced
It was 25 or so years ago I used to paint miniatures, mostly WH40k, but there are still Games Workshop stores? Citadel paint? They had a fine matte varnish, not to mention gun metal. You've learned drybrushing, soon you will learn the power of "inking", letting very thinned paints seep into the details and drying off the excess. It's like reverse drybrushing but it adds depth unlike just a base coat.
Miner 2049er Don’t do it, he’ll go broke
VHT matte clear coat for wheel rims. It won't cloud if oversprayed and doesn't add any shine to the paint.
It's used a lot in the nerf community as it's extremely durable stuff in such a thin coat.
2:00 this makes me think you guys need a “the office” style intro
I'm just now seeing this, but could someone who knows more of the recent backstory on the movie they are/were making could they tell me about it or direct me to a video where they talk more about it and say whether it's going well or not?
Did you ever find out? I'm just now seeing this..now
Finally a aspect ratio for phones like mine
So, was that the reveal of a feature-length Tether film? Because that seems like big news. And if you guys need money for it, start a Kickstarter or something. I want this to be a thing.
For anyone who is still asking about varnish, Testor's Dullcoate. If you have an airbrush, AK Interactive's Ultramatte Varnish is slightly better.
I actually really liked the aspect ratio, it framed people well, made me focus on them more.
4:11 Those finger swipe sound effects XD
It's very hard to watch the Sam and niko videos with my triangular tablet. Maybe make another channel with the videos in the triangle format?
Shiny works for the water tile. If you can selectively spray only the top of the mountains would be cool too!
Reminds me of this little island which I made at school. I scrunched up a bin liner and then put paper over to it to get a kind of island and then painted it. It was actually the island from Shakespeare's The Tempest so it had a little cave on the side where Caliban lived.
Try automotive engine enamel, you can get it at advance auto parts, comes in a spray can and works well. Also the paint will stay on if it gets over 300 degrees in the studio. :)
Good stuff Niko. As an artist, it always makes me so happy to see people falling in love with painting. I hope you'll find as much joy as I did when I first got into it, there's so much to explore and experiment, I promise it's worth the time (:
A feature from Corridor ? Hell yeah ! Excited af !
Triangle aspect ration is THE FUTURE.
Can you play a game of Catan on Node, please
Niko: "We got the blueprint, we got the script. Next up..."
Me cutting him off: "SLAP THE VIEWER!"
for a matte clear I would use an auto clear coat with a flex additive because your spraying plastic. You can get it with a satin base and that captures the light there for making it matte
But I don't know how much you want to put into them because just for the clear alone your probably looking into a little over thousand dollars ($1500 to be closer) if you go down that route and get quality equipment, because you have to buy the whole can, as well as the safety equipment, and the paint gun.
So if you are, I would suggest getting everything you can that you want to be matte cleared that's a plastic and spray them all at ones.
Sure hope to see some gameplay at some point
When Niko triggers yer Alexa
Evren Acar happened to me
The problem with the Matt spray being shiny comes from applying thick coats of varnish. When spraying, make sure to get only a thin coat on the miniature, letting it dry at room temperature for a couple seconds and then repeating until you feel that there is enough protection on it. This should solve the problem.
i like the phrase "i cannot claim creativity" because i wish there was more distinction in the maker community between stuff like 'build' vs 'printed' vs 'assembled.' just saying "i cannot claim creativity for X" might be something i use.
Trimorphic video looks great on my Sabre Arrowhead phone and Pyramid tablet.
Most underappreciated comment
I use the Army Painter Anti-Shine Matt Varnish to finish off all of my miniatures. Great spray that doesn't leave things shiny!
Is it now the time to make a settlers of catan node video featuring Niko's custom made super-duper set? Then maybe those of us who dont know the game can see what all the fuss is about.
I feel like you are really onto something good with "Best." I can't wait for more updates on it. Also, a great video overall. Well done!
Army Painter Matte Varnish. The only one I use.
This is a damn great appartment!
Do a coat or two of gloss then hit it with an ultramatte, the gloss tends to be more protective and the ultra matte will take out the gloss. Alternatively the humidity could be making you matte glossier than it should be. -- mini painter
yo, I Love you guys videos for close to 6 years now, you guys continue to make me laugh. your videos continue to amaze me. please keep up the amazing work.
Hey Nico, use a cheap airbrush (practice first), laquer those bad boys THEN follow up with a light buff with the finest wire wool you can find (fine as in small threads not decadence).
I want more videos of nikos hobbies, that was pretty neat
I like how it was the FINAL CHANCE to buy that hat for the third time already
Niko and Sam and whoever else wants to play, should play "Settlers of Catan" with the BrandonJLA group and post it on the the Node Channel and the Sam and Niko Channel
A Catan Tutorial video by Niko would be awesome and useful for those of us who have no clue how to play it but would like to.
I’m a full-time student at Vancouver Film School, studying compositing.
We use Nuke here as our main comp software.
Seeing you guys produce all these quality videos, I was wondering why haven’t you switched to Nuke yet.
Because it's $1200+ a quarter? The entire Adobe suite you can get for ~$320 a year, and when mastered Adobe is extremely competitive with what Nuke can do.
As a settlers catan player my self, THIS IS AMAZING
Now THIS is quality content!
YES finally! I’ve been using a triangular monitor for so long and no one has ever respected it’s superior ratio...
YES!! Finally support for my triangular monitor
you can use white glue mix with water, but beware, if the humidity is high when drying, it might turn cloudy
As a settlers of catan player, THIS IS AWESOME
you could spray everything with dulling spray (after its sealed).
Play it on node
Yay you finished it, looks awesome Nikko.

Love the finished project Niko! I am happy to see you guys shoot a movie!
I 3d printed Catan 2 years ago from the thingiverse. I used a slightly different design however, it has long border tiles instead of water tiles.
wow i Usually say I dont like vlogs but I just love watching these videos. This is definitely a channel that has that classic feel
GamesWorkshop has a whole bunch of paints and their matte finish is amazing
Super sweet. Amzing videos, love it when you do these ones.
Most clear coat sealer can’t help but have, at the least, a dull shine. Miniwax makes a solid matte clear coat, it would need to be brushed on. Rustoleum’s chalked matte comes out flatter then that clear you used though.
Love those little Sam finger swoosh sounds.
Niko's really good at explaining things.
That set is really cool, good job Niko! Keep up the great videos corridor, and keep the tips coming.
That set is beautiful.
The Office did it. Remember the "Pyramid" tablet in beautiful triangle aspect ratio?
Niko-centric videos are so great!
That point where Niko was explaining the painting of his Catan set, I really wish he'd done it Bob Ross style.
I wasn't sure about the trimorphic aspect ratio, but you know what they say, don't knock it 'til you tri it.
Thank you for using Otto snap. They’re one of the only hats that fit my head! Definitely going to check out the sale!
if you place your items in a jar with nail polish remover the stripes from the plastic layers will smooth out.
