Holy smokes. Thanks for sharing this conversation! Confirmation of economic challenges to come that are looking more and more inevitable.

Chris, this is a great show. Some more facts that stimulated 80-90’s market and economy; 1980 interest rates took off but then dropped, those holding bonds had potential capital gains,Reagan tax cuts boosted economy, end of Cold War spending reduced (peace dividend), first desert storm Iraq spending 1990 kicked the economy into high gear, and finally 1991 on personal computer revolutionized productivity and stimulated a huge capital spending cycle.

Yep. The fact that the Federal Funds Rate was 19% in 1981 and dropped for the next 19 years played a huge part in economic "growth"

So, would people agree that it's best to get out of the stock market now, and then put the money back in in a few years time?

    • @LIFE180

Keeping money on the sidelines and liquid is wise for the moment in my opinion.

So according to john as stated in this video, one should sell out of the market completely because we are all going to lose 50% over 12 years from a tool that can predict the market with a 90% probability, come on... this is the typical fear mongering that is spread on social media. The saying goes "time in the market always beats timing the market". Having a well diversified portfolio using growth, dividend ,and cash assets spread through all the sectors will limit risk and increase cash flow. Also learning options can help gain some additional income.
Also Chris i have been watching a lot of your videos, I think a lot of them are good, imo this video is horrible not only does have a very pessimistic veiw of US economy it also has one on the US as a whole, suggesting everyone move out of the USA is pretty un-American. I am pround to live here and happy for the opportunities this country has provided me.

I appreciate your perspective. I guess I am just not as happy with the USA at this point. I have 3 young kids who are 12 and younger. The school system and the values being taught in school are abysmal. Indoctrination is the word.
As much as I love what this country stood for, it is no longer that country. The opening scene from The Newsroom was the best depiction of this I can come up with.
Also, idk how old you are, but I have done videos on this....I disagree with the buy and hold keep money in the market idea. If you remove market results from 1980-1999, the stats are not very promising. And if you realize what lead to those results, and that they are not duplicatable anytime soon, it's not a pretty picture.
For me, there are more opportunities elsewhere. Nearly 34 trillion in debt and over 200 trillion in unfunded liabilities....to NOT think that its a house of cards is a bit naive, in my opinion...
It is okay we don't agree on everything though!

I would love a market crash. The market would essentially go on sale.
