My thoughts on some of the Dwarf regiments by Avatars of War

- I take a look at the Dwarf Rangers and King's Guard from Avatars of War which will eventually feature in my Dwarf army for Warhammer Fantasy Battles. As a small comparative bonus I also look at their Slayer option as well which I have had for many years.
I give my thoughts on the packaging, design and quality of the models. I paid for these and received nothing from AoW as paid advertising.
Edit: Apparently this is a type of plastic and not resin. I am not up on technical terms, I just like to build and paint models lol
I wanted to love these miniatures. I truly wanted these to be the core of my newest Dwarf army. I purchased several "boxes" of each of the kits during the Black Friday Sale in 2021.
They ended up breaking my heart. The quality of the material is such that it simply doesn't hold together when glued... by any glue. Super glues, model glues, etc. I ended up using epoxy resin for the regular Clan warriors after ripping the skin off my fingers trying to hold them together until the super glue formed a bond. With super glue accelerator from everyone buddy, Bob Smith, the bond was brittle and several minis came apart during the painting process. The bond itself was curiously still existing, but it was almost like the plastic/resin itself just failed and gave way.
It's been worse with the two handed hammer dwarves, the King's Guard. From February, when they arrived, until now... in mid-June, I've managed to get 10 out of 60 of these guys together and they look like pretty rough. I'll start every morning on a day off (I get one a week, maximum, sometimes less), I'll sit down with a cup of coffee and the latest adhesive of choice and try to get some of these together... usually to no avail. Then I'll grab some other minis... plastic, resin, metal... and hammer out constructed minis for an hour or more. It doesn't matter what manufacturer, they go together, stay together, and the AoW dwarves just don't.
I even tried a can of MEK... which nobody should because it'll turn your liver into Fois Gras, and couldn't get them the parts to melt together.
I truly like the sculptor and his wife is absolutely delightful, but whoever made these minis for them did them and their customers a great disservice.
That is not what I wanted to hear hahaha, sorry to hear about all the trouble you are having, I will try to make time for a few this week and if I have the same issues I will be sure to let you know.
Wow, my hands are super dry right now. I am using some moisturizer I got from a friend for Christmas but its not doing much in this dry cold my region is going through. I am either going to have to find a more intense moisturizer or start wearing gloves while filming until I don't look like I am working on self mummification haha.
They take months to send your order. Yes you read that right, they take months to send your order out, that doesn't include the shipping time. They don't respond to emails either. The box they sent my order in the packages had opened and the models were loose inside the box rattling around.
That sucks, I was lucky to have had decent and relatively mundane experiences with them though I do admit the first unit I got from them in recent times with these weird resin pieces in bags was a shock after the amazing slayer sprues that came in a proper box.
But I plan to share what the new offerings from Highland Miniatures look like once I get back from my mini vacation to visit my parents and can get a minute to print them. Not sure what all they plan to do over the next couple of months but they have shown off amazing basic dwarf warriors which makes me very happy
Their "slayers" are great
Sorry for the late response, and definitely agree have some in my army box
