How to Achieve a Million Tons of Corn on a piece of Land [Food security]

  • Maize or corn is widely cultivated and consumed globally and a greater weight of maize is produced each year than any other grain. Increasing demand and production shortfalls in global maize supplies have worsened market volatility and contributed to surging global maize prices. There is a success in achieving a million tons of corn to overcome food security issues.
    Some of the techniques employed are;
    1.Good land preparation (done in the wet season prior to the beginning of the dry season for efficient control of weeds)
    2. Good planting distance, high density and good corn variety (Variety; GSO 308 from Israel. One seed per hill planting, 150cm between drips and each drip had two rows of corn spaced 60cm apart.)
    3. Drip irrigation
    4. Pests and diseases control
    5. Fertilization( fertigation)
    6. Timely harvest
    Two techniques were employed in making the farm so clean. 1. Spraying the field with pre-germination selective herbicides like Lagon. Lagon, when employed in corn production is effective in controlling weeds in corn. 2. The corn were planted in the summer where there's no way except via irrigation. However, since drip irrigation was employed, this denied the remaining wees seeds access to adequate moisture for them to function well.

      Thanks for watching this video of ours. There's a reservoir in the farm which stores both rainwater and recycled waste water from the community. For the distance between the rows, there were 60 cm apart row spacing and 100cm to 120cm apart between drips. The farm was sectioned into acres. Total land size was 25 hectares

    Hello Sir, how are you? 8 really like your Farm, can i plant my maize the way you planted if am not using drip but sprinkler

    • @risingfarmers
      @risingfarmers  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much for your visit. You can actually plant your corn in this way just that you have to make some adjustments in terms of spacing etc. In drip irrigation, there's quite uniform supply of water and nutrients as compared with the sprinkler. Moreover, weed density is high in sprinkler irrigation.
