  • Installing band board off ladders can be tricky, but I figured out one way to do it... When we can rent equipment to help with our highest LP Smartside and roof, it will surely be nice, though!
We're also installing rain screen behind pretty much all of our siding--except our horizontal breaks at the band boards and the corners. We're doing cut strips to cover what would have taken ~6 rolls with just 2, saving us about a grand.
Cross your fingers for us that we finally get resolution on our missing/incorrect siding... We started this order last August, and it still isn't right, as of the end of June.

Great idea on the rain screen strips for a more economical option. I may copy this idea for our build. Would basically be similar to the Keene EasyFur product, although that has a 10 mm thickness. I noticed that Mortair Vent does make a 10 mm product in addition to the 6mm option shown here, so I may use that for a little extra drying potential. One suggestion, though. For proper installation, I believe the product needs to be installed with the mesh side facing the sheathing and the fabric covering facing outward. However, that's probably more critical when using a reservoir cladding like stucco, brick or stone to keep mortar from plugging the drainage mat. Best wishes on your build.

That makes sense, not sure why I thought that was the front! You're right though, I don't think it will have any negative impact on our install but it sure would on brick.
We did end up receiving and using some 10mm that was shipped to us instead of 6mm that we ordered. The 10mm was a little bit trickier with trim to make it stay in plane, but doable.

Looks good….is it just the camera angle but does the outbuilding slant inward towards the house ?

Thank you! I 'm not sure what outbuilding you mean? If you mean the scaffold, then yes... We did not always get it perfectly plumb, haha!

@@CornucopiaOrchards no …I think it’s just the camera angle. If you watch the beginning it almost looks like the house addition’s roof slants in towards the main house wall . So I have been research LP. And hardie board a lot . It seems like there have been issues with water absorbion with the LP , have you had issues with this? I think since it’s new I doubt it would be an issue yet . It looks great though…pretty challenging for one guy I’d say !

@@smgri steep hillside and I didn't always get the camera plumb 😂
We have some scraps that have been left out in direct exposure all winter, like sitting in water on the deck... Unpainted cut sides definitely swelled. Factory unpainted sides swelled a little. I think under proper installation conditions it'll last well. I would be careful to get a good layer of paint on every cut end and on the trim where the sides are exposed.

@@CornucopiaOrchards yup that’s what I hear …definitely keep up on the paint job and seal the ends . They also say don’t have a water lawn sprinkler hit it in the fine print __ which seems a bit insane since there is thing that they call rain …😕🧐!
