I think a man like Snape would never get rid of his revenge feelings. As much as he might have wanted it for Harry. He had to protect his face because he wanted to protect Harry. Did anyone ever notice that in the retrospective of the scene where Snape learns that the Potters are high on Voldemort's death list (especially Harry), he implores Dumbledore to protect them all? So everyone? Even his biggest nightmare, James Potter ... no, in everything he did to Harry, he had to die to explain everything to Harry through the Pensieve. Even he would never get it over his lips that he was in love with Harry's mother all his life.
He was ALWAYS a good person. He kept his true self buried deep inside but his love for Lily was pure and unconditional. He may have resented Harry some, but pretending to be on Voldemorts side, he had to be cold and mean at times, or the DE kids would tell their parents. Also, there was the rivalry between Gryffindors and Slytherins dating back before Snape and the marauders were in school. So Snape also had to be tougher on Gryffindors. He did not want to get close to anyone, lest he put their life in danger. So he acted cold, aloof, moody, harsh to keep people from getting too close to him. Remember, he told Dumbledore, NO ONE CAN KNOW, and dumbledore said , I won't reveal the best of you, Severus. He was an amazing man, and he deserved the world
