    I’ll appreciate if you share the link for the short block. I think I’m going the same route

      This is an Amazon link which is slightly higher than some others but with free shipping is actually less.

    I have a EJ 255 XT I use as a daily driver. Ringland failure was the last thing on my mind, until now.
    13:48 Are you using wheel spacers on your XT ?

    How many miles did that original motor have on it when it failed?

    • @DIYEVERYTHING
      @DIYEVERYTHING  2 роки тому +2

      130xxx miles but I've only owned it for 2 years and have no history of the previous owner(s).

      @@DIYEVERYTHING Good to know, my one 04 XT 4spd has 255Kmiles and my 5-spd had 140K miles, both vf39 swapped with every bolton imaginable (cyl. #4 coolant mod, IAG AOS, and all STI boltons with custom dyno tuning)
      .... I'm trying to find the sweet spot of replacing rod and piston bearings, piston rings and pistons in the auto to prevent catastrophic failure requiring replacement of the entire shortblock and possible longblock, oiling and coolant systems. I've been puffing smoke for about 100K miles on it yet so far at startup that goes away after warmed up, maintaining oil volume it seems i'm consuming aprx 1qt/5K miles, I'm checking every time I fill with gas and using the larger Mazda branded Roki Co original oil filter the vehicle was originally fitted with from factory with Amazon Basics 5w30 full synthetic.
      Any advise or input appreciated.

      I considered rebuilding the short block but it was cheaper and faster to buy a new short block and upgrade the oil pump and pickup.

    Ugh! What a bummer, so when it blew what oil type and grade were you using and did you have cylinder 4 cooling mod installed on her? Also, what stage tune were you bud? Know this happens to some EJ’s, but trying to figure out how and why it happened to yours… cool video dude, all that work and you still aren’t thinking of going to go 5mt or 6mt? 😇

      I've been running 5w30 mobile1. I don't follow the "staged tune" concept. In another video I went thorough the steps of being professionally e-tuned. I also have a video about the cylinder 4 cooling mod.
      As for a 6 speed swap, I've considered it but the cost of the parts has jumped recently and I want to make sure I get exactly what I want without compromising at all on condition or quality.

      @@DIYEVERYTHING Gotcha on the swap, I got a sweet deal on FXT 5mt and all the goodies waiting to swap her over can help you with the wiring and little parts you need (pretty much same for 6mt), as for ring land failure usually is caused by excess heat and pressure. EJ’s Cylinder 4 is notorious for having excess heat and leaning out with tunes (especially without cyl 4 cooling mod and upgraded tunes) and as for stage of tune (all though not exact science) is just an easy way to understand level of mods and boost. Seems like you were about a stage 2+ or so. I would strongly suggest Cylinder 4 coolant mod and going with amsoil 0-40/5-40 if you plan to hit 350-400hp a little extra protection and piece of mind. My 2 cents! 😎🤙🏻

      I'm running the cooling mod and, Motul 5w40 as recommended by my tuner and a couple local Subie builders. As for the 6mt, I really want the Forester STI 6mt which gives me the gear ratio I want.

    • @brettmills2470
      @brettmills2470 2 роки тому

      Smart move on the #4 mod and motul is just fine @ 0-40/5-40. You would be surprised on the ratios… FXT 4.44 5mt vs 6mt STi 3.90/3.545… there is a reason the FXT is a STi slayer. You do get little extra little adjustable traction on the STi, setup in theory, but non-track and drag it’s not so clear cut… 😇

      @@DIYEVERYTHING did you have the cooling mod when cylinder 4 failed?
