best thing about Batocera Linux is it's a Linux distro you can tinker with under the hood. I got CasaOS up & running & it turns any computer into a home server for all kinds of services! (Emby works great but the sky's the limit as its Docker underneath!) I found EmuDeck really hard to manage both at game & system level. in Batocera, you can automate just about anything once you know yr way around.
hi. thanks for your video. instead of rebooting to copy file, you can just press f1 (which is ... on the steam deck). then the touchpad can be used as a mouse. abios check in menu>games/check bios is available too (and so many other things).
@@Darkuni check my video '50 tips' , it will give you a part of the answer. note that one is using es desktop while batocera is using batocera es (shared with retrobat, emuelec) and that's very different. not just emulationststion. for example, try to plug 3 pads and do a multiplayer play, all will be configured automatically thanks a part of software. etc. the system are complementary for people wanting just retrogaming without to reboot. but batocera has a big step in adavance if you dont stop at just trying to boot one game to compare. the hdmi should switch automatically. i dont know why it doesnt work for you. audio is still manual, yes.
@@nicolas.adenis-lamarre Appreciate the follow up! Please feel free to link your video here - I want my viewers to have access to quality content (and it doesn't have to be mine). HDMI switch is most definitely broken - this is with the official dock, not a $17 Amazon special :D Thanks again for speaking up.
I found it difficult in EmuDeck to choose 10 favorite emu games I want to show up in my Steam Library. the "parser" kept wanting to import entire systems & it has this convoluted "exception" manager. just let me star 10 games and be done with it! brownie points if EmuDeck automatically synced w my favorites in Batocera! there is a reason why peeps choose Batocera to curate on - it manages large libraries very well.
I can certainly see a use case for it. If this were driving my arcade cabinet? I'd have an m.2 equipped dock and boot to that instead of futzing with an OS.
If you go down the Batocera root. When Batocera has an update. Do you start from scratch. Or can the old Batocera program be replaced with new. Leaving ROMs in place?
I was able to get batocera up and running but when it’s time to transfer my roms and bios it doesn’t let me copy and paste to the sd card. Is there something I have to do to unlock it so I can?
When i try to boot Batocera, on steamdeck it shows the joystick with version under it while on the load screen then goes black,. Idk how to fix,. Ive even tried discord but due to having a preloaded sd card no one will help,. Kinda being diks about it,. Any advice id appreciate,..
Unless the image was made SPECIFICALLY for the Deck, it likely won't work. Preloaded cards are sort of admitting to wide piracy - and most people would probably not be interested in helping out like that. I would download the Batocera clean image for Deck and try that first. If that works? Then it is the preload card made for some other system.
I keep getting an error 256. When I try to play GameCube, and consoles before that console, but psp ,and ps1&2 work,. Idk, I’m doing something wrong. Any ROMs I collect fr sites I found are also working,. It’s got to be a setting, something simple,. I was using retro arch and they were all working, then next day GameCube, mane, arcade, turbo graffiti, sega, Atari, all would try to load a game and kick bak to game selection, like no emulator to play them?.?

At the 8:30 min mark you mentioned you don't like it in box art on that theme. Its incredibly simple to change to list on that same theme. Just FYI. Basically any change you can think might be slightly better is fairly easy to change to. Also you mentioned your using a curated flash, but your not saying what version of batocera that flash is using. If its 33 or 34 it makes sense why the HDMI and audio problems are there.
Also should look into adding clover for dual boot gui on startup so your not going into bios every time you wanted to boot from Batocera. Clover is a fairly easy setup with a couple simple terminal commands, and bing bang booey, when you start up your steam deck it automatically gives you an option to choose your boot OS. It also is configured so it will boot into your default drive after so many seconds if you don't choose an option. Make it so much better for dual and tri-boot.
I figure that was the case ... I'm pretty hands on with Emulation Station and there really isn't anything you can't do with it :) The version IS important and I left it out. What I can say is that before shooting the video, I did an update to the latest version (figured a newer version might fix the HDMI issue). These curated images are always a crapshoot though. In this RetroGuy's, the laserdisc games boot, but no controls work for them ... so .. UGH. Great to have games included that don't play, right? I prefer to hand build my own setup; no computer emulation is a no go for me. I need my C64 and Amiga stuff. Appreciate the call out. Batocera fans are here to keep me honest; once the dust settles a bit I'll post a "follow up" video featuring those things that I presented as shortcomings. Have to be fair, after all.
@@nicolas.adenis-lamarre to be completely fair? I built my own image with nothing special about it it was fully up to date and HDMI out still didn't work lol
the scraper on Batocera is top notch - you can choose from multiple sources. I found EmuDeck making identification mistakes like RetroArch. and to make things worse, if you try to change or contribute an image (I do like the crowdsourcing construct), it either doesn't stick or throws errors - I gave up after awhile.

I believe all updates are handled internally and don't require any sort of loss of data.
yup - it just updates the system (the BATOCERA partition u saw in the video)

Boot to SteamOS, and insert the Batocera card and you should be able to write the files from there.

no tv via dock?
Well, this was capture by HDMI out - from a dock - and captured with an El Gato capture card... I assume you could use this on a TV as well.
