Completed Bar and Marble Steps systems into Gaping Ghyll main chamber in the late 60's....i was a novice when members of The Northwest Caving Club took me under their wing....fantastic memories..i was 19 at the time...no one had cameras in those times, so, just have fantastic memories. Now living in Australia this video brought me enormous pleasure. Thank you to all those involved in the making of this wonderful tour video, i can only imagine the effort involved. Thank you all so much.
This is such a lovely video- I'm so impressed with the amount of good shots and well lit caverns. I'm doing this trip soon and this video put me at ease!
Did the main drop in Gaping Gill on a four bar rack - out via Bar Pot and out that route in early 1980s - there’s evidently been some positive improvements since I did that trip - and I can remember some of those pitches like it was yesterday - thanks for sharing.
That was delightful. Very sporting. I haven't caved in way too long. Need to get out of the armchair and at least do a simple walking trip. Still have my vertical gear, but it's thirty years out of date... Well, my lamps are carbide, so an upgrade is needed there too.
Stolen a 5 second clip (Bar pot big pitch) for my history of cave filming presentation for this years "Hidden Earth" as one of a few clips that show what is now possible with digital technology. Hope you dont mind.
Yes thats fine Sid - you are quite frequently in our thoughts with your pioneering work with film from last century. - look forward to watching your presentation - also would you be willing to be one of the judges for the video competition - we are the coordinators and need to fine 3 willing experts!? It only involves watching the entries online and filling in forms! Andy and Antonia
