Yes indeed. I thought the same thing. And sometimes the show really wants you to think that's the direction they're going. But Jake has clearly grown. And learned to not take Charles for granted. They need each other. Like Batman and Alred.

Charles would have creeped out any other 99 squad except Jake hence they became best pals. In the earlier episodes he used to appreciate Rosa a lot which made her uncomfortable hence the only one who engages with Charles extraordinary worshipping of other human being is our best detective Jake Peralta.
