I'm afraid you're going to have to elaborate. I can't tell whether you're referring to jumping (or riding in general), or the the general treatment of horses.
Possibly that horrible long shanked bit accompanied by a short running martingale on a very long necked horse? If you need that to control your horse you’re not ready to compete with it.
