Taste Test of Hungary's favourite snack: Túró Rudi!

- Túró Rudi is a sweet curd snack super popular in Hungary - we saw so many kinds while on our trip to Budapest that we simply had to collect as many flavours possible and conduct a very scientific (not really) taste test!
Sorry for the bad quality - it was our last night in Budapest and since it was autumn the nightfall came very early!
As a Hungarian I had no idea there are so many flavours.
The earliest form of Túró Rudi appeared in Russia under the name Cырок (Syrok meaning curd snack),
a rectangular bar of curd, butter and fat mixed together, covered with
dark chocolate coating. Its coating is thinner and the filling is
sweeter. It is widely acknowledged that Túró Rudi was based on it, as
design and production began after a study trip to the Soviet Union
(presumably by Antal Deák). Sándor Klein, a teacher at the Budapest University of Technology,
gave the product its name, which raised a bit of controversy as people
thought the name was vulgar and had pornographic associations. But the
name stayed, and throughout the 1970s, turned out to be very successful.
Production moved from Budapest to Mátészalka and eventually grew to several additional factories throughout the 1980s.
I remember tasting it during the Soviet era of hungary. I was very disappointed at the sour tasting stick. I thought it was ice cream that had gone very bad. Because the cafès in hungary had fantastic ice cream.
Túró = cottage/curd cheese. Túró rúd = cottage cheese bar, which this snack basically is. The manufacturer of the original snack wanted to give it a more friendly name which is easy to remember. So they changed the word "rúd" to "Rudi", a short/nickname for Rudolf. :-)
Zoltán Pupp actually more like Clotted cream because cottage cheese has a really dirty meaning so roll with clotted cream
őő nem..az csak turó XD semmi sajt nincsen benne (anyám ott dolgozott ahol készítik XD )
"Rudi" also has an additional meaning. ;)
@@ccziv Actually no, that meaning is the exact same. I mean "That other thing" does look like a rod too so that's why... you fellow perv :) Also yea, not cottage cheese bar but rod as rod is rúd in hungarian.
@@cosmicreef5858 Az angolok a túrot cottage cheese-nek hívják, nem túl gyakori alapanyag náluk, boltkba kb vadászni kell rá.
Enjoy the túró rudi ladies!! 😁 I loved your video.
that is not cheese. btw your chanel's name is so funny in hungraian language :D
+Ákos F. ツ Well... yeah. In czech we also wouldn't call that cheese but for the lack of a better term I settled with that .) (Ever tried to explain 'quark' to an English person? uhhhh paaaiiinnnnn). But I miss Turo so much now.... I even had a dream about it the other night .| You guys are lucky!
+Ákos F. ツ Well technically, it is cheese. It's just we have a different name for that particular kind of cheese.
+Kakibot XD your name, i cant stop laughing XD sorry
+Ákos F. ツ I think the closest term for it in English is cottage cheese and túró in Hungarian :)
it's quark :)
It's kind of a running joke of how very few foreign people can actually stomach Túró Rudi, because they're not used to cottage cheese being flavoured with sugar.
Bojler eladó !

My favourite is also the one that the chicks liked so much, the peanut butter flavoured.
I'd welcome an inverse version of these where the outer layer is the peanut butter while the chocolate is inside.
There is one which is kinda similar to that you described. I has peanuts in it's coating and cottage cheese inside.

+Kakibot I'm really sorry but i am so fed up of the Internet or people giving false info about anything Hungary actually founded like this turo rudi. Yeah sorry so angry with people sometimes when theftgive false info
Részeg a kamerátok jányok
+Kakibot can you please stop giving false info turo rudi is Hungarian originated not Soviet union. Not everything good has to come from a well populated country and it is quite offensive to us Hungarians. We founded for example Hollywood rubiks cube vitamin c so can you in the comments at least tell everybody that it is not Soviet Union and that it is Hungarian originated. So offended and people often say false info which i am fed up by no
+Bloberry Actually, the original Idea of Turo Rudi came from Soviet Union. But that product made by cottage cheese+butter and lard. And Hungarians improve that! But the point is, the final form and taste of turo rudi is hungarian.
Scythe John That is what i said in hungarian. :D
hellooo :D valaki magyar?
olyan cukin mondja hogy túrórudi
I mean left sorry
sorry about that but its not a snak
that isn't cheese
it is TÚRÓ
+Farkas Katica It's called cottage cheese in English.
Elhíztak xd
BOJLER ELADÓ

+Henike Léka 200 +áfa
