  • Book Talk with Harald Bauder, Professor, Dept. of Geography and Environmental Studies, Toronto Metropolitan University
In this lecture, Dr. Bauder re-imagines human mobility in ways that are de-linked from national sovereignty. Using examples from different parts of the world, he examines contemporary practices of solidarity to illustrate what novel alternative conceptualizations of human mobility may look like. He suggests that urban and local scales, rather than the nation state, frame human mobility and belonging in transformative ways. He ultimately proposes that solidarity, rather than sovereignty, offers an alternative approach to imagine how human mobility should, and already does, occur.
Bio: Harald Bauder is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and the Graduate Program in Immigration and Settlement Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. He is the director of the international partnership project Urban Sanctuary, Migrant Solidarity and Hospitality in Global Perspective and author of the book From Sovereignty to Solidarity (Routledge, 2022)
