Class act brother! I live in NYC and have seen mannnny stand-up comedians handle hecklers here (I love stand-up, and have gone to a LOT of shows). All of them start calmly for a min and then completely shut those hecklers up by ripping them apart. But you started slow, kept it slow and ended it slow - that requires an insane level of control over one's emotions. I am sure that, being a seasoned comedian, you could have at any moment, ridiculed the hell out of her by raising you voice too....and tbh, I was kinda waiting for that to happen (cuz that's all I've seen comics do). It's quite true what you said. I have been to a LOT of standups and not everyone can make me laugh the same. It's true laughter is a comprehensive based spectrum hence there being audience who like a joke because it's funny and some who take offense at it. To find what you like the most, either watch the yt videos they upload before going to the show or spend money trying to get what you find funny the most. Also not every bit is funny. There are times when you won't relate, times when you'd find it boring but that's what standup is. Just find what makes you laugh and stick to it
