I knew I had to tune in to this review today when I saw John's straight from the theater impression last night and I am not disappointed. Sadly it seems that Hollywood is replete with writers today whose answer to any logical script question is "because." Why does the Rhino turn into the Rhino? Because. Why does the lady have the magic juju bean juice? Because. Why are they fighting now? Because.
"Because" can work, sometimes, if there's a "cool factor" to it or if you're dealing with something complicated like the multiverse or time travel. But some writers will rely on it for everything, resulting in an incoherent mess. I feel like the subtitle for a number of these films should be "Things Happen".
Aside from the non seeing breath in the cold, tarot card not flying away in the wind... there was no missing finger on his brother after it was cut off. I guess they reattached it 🤦♂️
I never comment on UA-cam, but I have watched John Campea since the early 2010s. I appreciate that whether a movie is good or bad, he’s always honest with his thoughts

When it began I was immediately interested because it reminded me of how Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves starts, a film that was a pleasant surprise for me. Then the Madame Web grade exposition came and those hopes were immediately dashed to pieces.

I spent $16.50 on my ticket. $8.50 on a drink. For a total of $24.50. Then I watched this ridiculously awful film. And they wonder why the Western film industry is collapsing??? Most of the people in the theatre walked out. The script was horribly bad. This is why I'm making amateur films now, because even my (literal) "no budget" stuff is better than this junk and although I can't charge people for it, at least thousands of people get some ACTUAL enjoyment.
I had a ticket to go see this at 10:20am Friday in IMAX. When I was checking showtimes to see what else was showing, I noticed all but one of the IMAX showings were gone, making my ticket obsolete. I thought maybe they gave them back to Wicked or Moana 2? Recent releases that were big box office hits? Nope. They were given to Interstellar, a film that came out 10 years ago. Feels pretty indicitive of this film's quality to me.
