I still tell myself I’ve forgiven her, but I admit the bitterness wells up at my former boss that day. We were all in the conference room watching everything unfold and comforting each other, some coworkers had family in NYC, one at the WTC itself, some of us scared to be honest, etc, and she calls upstairs and tells our department to get back to work. She was a workaholic taskmaster with the health issues to show it. I’m proud that we defied her and didn’t go. They ended up closing the office early and sending everyone home soon after anyway. She was fired for other reasons soon after but I’m proud that day that I stood my ground for what really mattered. There absolutely zero about any of our non-essential desk jobs that was that important I promise you.

In 2019, investment firm Piper Jaffray acquired Sandler O'Neil for $485 million and created the firm now dba Piper Sandler. In the acquisition, all Sandler O'Neil employees migrated to Piper Sandler so they did not lose their jobs.
In the end it worked out as it would have had 9/11 not happened - the surviving leadership of the company continued, pushed forward as he promised, and re-grew it back to just as strong as they were before the attack. They were purchased for almost half a billion dollars. That's no small potatoes. Everyone involved in getting the company back on their feet in this story should be commended.

The monumental consequences and aftermath of 9/11 (the wars, recession, bad economy, paranoia, xenophobia) broke our innocence as a nation and bred a lot of resentment and divisiveness. 9/11 can be directly linked to the current state of our country in a way.

Most who died were those who didn’t make it down on time & I even those right outside who got buried in the rubble when the towers fell. It’s really amazing how well this company took care of their lost employees families afterwards. I read morgan stanly pretty much fired everyone that worked in the towers. The ones that didn’t were made to work in some warehouse where the fumes from the burning pile would be pulled in. Horrible company

"We were allowed to join them a few days after the disaster"....You mean they reported to work after this colossal tragedy without having some time off to collect themselves? What kind of a heartless employer would ever ask such a thing?

    - fierce competition offers them space
    -Others refuse to take commission
-'We don't write poem, but we are wall street guys
-This is like combat to me.
What a difference, 20 years later, another huge national crises but people won't even wear mask for others.
.sorry for bringing mask here, but can we just f....ing be together 🙏

After 20 years it’s amazing to see how much things changed. How much support there was then & how much division now. Everyone just standing in their own corner refusing to budge. Today people care more about hair cuts & buying beer than making any sacrifices for others.
