i think this album succeeds where Simulation Theory failed: consistency in theme and style. When you make something so stylistic and precisely focused in one aesthetic area, as both Muse and Royal Blood wanted to do, you need to make something consistent that fits that style, a concept album of sort. Simulation Theory, however, felt disjointed, too many tracks felt out of place, like they didn't fit with others or just with that aesthetic overall. In Typhoons, every track, from the best to the most middle of the road, fits that theme and aesthetic and therefore made the album feel cohesive.

Songs like Propaganda, Break it to Me, Something Human and Get Up and Fight make no sense when you take in consideration the themes, the melodies and the aesthetic of Simulation Theory. I made my own playlist using the few songs that match, plus some of the alternate versions, but still, that album is a mix if two very different ideas, they should've made something coherent with Algorithm, The Dark Side, The Void, Pray and the STT interstitials like Behold The Glove.

Their recent singles have a very 70's and 80's vibe. I think we can see this trend as more than just a passing phase and that it's indicative that their style is steadily evolving.

It's definitely different from their 2014 music which made me like them in the first place but I don't necessarily think that makes it bad. What I'd really like to hear is them work the best elements out of their new and old styles.
