  • Fourth single off Alex Henry Foster's album Kimiyo, out now.
    Available here: found.ee/ahf-kimiyo
"Inspired by the spiritual notion of soul cleansing that is proper to the Japanese culture, the song is built around the sentiment of acceptance, defined by honesty and admission, where an acknowledgment of the past is enfranchised by the nature of the now. The lyrical essence is comprised of several fragments of self-designed deceptions and aborted blessings colliding with a renewed perspective on personal dreams and inner-purpose rebirth… It offers the emotional clarity necessary to unfold every possible path ahead, to redefine one’s life trajectory beyond the frontiers we have raised within our hearts and souls.
The song’s official music video is an excerpt from the movie “Voyage à la Mer”, a motion picture produced by Alex Henry Foster, which will be premiered this upcoming fall."
Foster says about Kimiyo: “I have always been looking for a pretext or an excuse to work with Momoka. She’s got a very unique spirit, and she’s a very inspiring and insightful person. We have a common view about life in general and spirituality in particular, but most of all, she is a fantastic artist for whom I have the utmost admiration. When it became obvious to me that I would be in no way capable of singing or speaking on the songs we had sketched, Momoka was in my opinion the only person able to transcend the project’s spirit. The poetry of Voyage à la Mer was to be the core holding the whole project together, but I wanted Momoka to make her own interpretation of the lyrical undercurrent and to express herself in her native tongue, so she wouldn’t have to be my voice or try to emulate what my words might convey. We set the canvas, laid down the color palettes, but it was for her to express herself and be the painting.”
Alex Henry Foster's new project Voyage à la Mer is an artistic multidisciplinary endeavor based on the asymmetry of human emotions. While the project refers to the title of a self-searching poetry and meditative notebook he started writing during a trip to Japan back in 2010, it also symbolizes the fundamental connection that individuals and communities nurture with water, the beginning of time, ritualistic pilgrimages, redemptive processions, purification, the incarnation related to the flow of life, birth and death, the passage to afterlife, transition, and rebirth. The 2010 trip to Japan forms the basis of the project, in particular a conversation with the parents of a young Japanese fan who, prior to taking his own life, had been corresponding with Foster via letters the two sent back and forth. As time passed, Foster underwent a life-altering cardiac surgery. He spent months recovering, unable to talk, and unsure he would have the ability to sing in the future. Foster writes: “I was in no other position than to either feel sorry for myself or have a prolonged look with myself to figure out who I was beyond the distressing sensation of losing my identity. The introspective clarity brought me right back to Japan, in what had been for me a transformative experience almost 15 years ago, highlighted by the long-forgotten fragments of film, photographs, and people's testimonies I had the privilege of witnessing.” Slowly starting to regain energy, Foster contacted his friend and longtime creative accomplice Ben Lemelin to assist him in writing and creating. With Foster still regaining his voice, the duo invited fellow artist Momoka to be the voice of the first incarnation of the project, titled Kimiyo.
Alex Henry Foster has crafted four different creative entities; the albums Kimiyo and A Measure of Shape and Sounds, the film Voyage à la Mer, and the in-public conversations & live musical improvisation affair Of Flashes and Other Currents, all due to be released over the span of 2024.

This is indeed very different from what we played at Freak Valley 2024! But just like you said, this was also unexpected... It is something I had been wanting to do for a long time, but only got to it last year, after my heart surgery, unsure if I would ever be able to sing again... Thank you for finding this project and taking the time to listen to it!

Again, your music comes to me unexpectectly.. I'm in a limbo right now after my partner passed away taking his life, leaving me with our light, our daughter that will be botn in 2 months.. he was pure love, but also pure pain, with the demon of depression feeding on his struggle and making him blind to the sun too often.. I don't know how to feel, I can only cry and keep fighting this will to reach him in our Secret Garden, where he said he'd go waiting for us to meet again in the last words.. I faced deep depression myself for many years, and I know you need to find the strenght to ask for and accept help not to drown.. I am buying what was supposed to be our Home, near the beach, where during winter sometimes the Aurora can be seen as well.. our daughter has its name.. "the light of the night and the light of the dawn" per italian meaning.. I miss him terribly and felt a bit of peace and release listening to this music and watching its waves..

      Dear Nessie,
I’m as deeply touched by your message as I’m profoundly humbled by your trust to open up with so much honesty. It means a lot to me.
Grief is a magnifying emotion reflecting the most intimate nature of the heart. Therefore, even though I can’t fathom the full extent of your mourning pain, I do know what the indelible mark that losing someone leaves deep within, what depression may bring as a temporary solace and vivid outlet to channel our powerlessness over an unbearable situation that, just like an endless tide, seems to keep hitting our devastated shore with much more impact every single time… Isolation and disconnection, more than any affective bleaknesses, are the enemies of our heart and soul. And that’s why, however strange it might have felt for you to write a comment through the impersonal ocean of the dehumanized social media world, the delicate lucidity of your words not only inspire me to keep facing my own ghosts but are also a persuasive optimism for you and Aurora - which is such a hopeful name.
The song “A Vessel Astray” is part of an album titled “Kimiyo”. The foundation of the record is based on a story that could resonate with your actual tragedy… It’s based on the journey of a young woman I met while filming a movie in Japan back in 2010. She got pregnant in an unexpected context and didn’t want to keep the child, she hated what the unborn child meant for her, which was a reflection of her life, of the family she grew up with, of the culture she didn’t feel part of… She ran away, tried to lose herself, expecting to lose the child in the process… But the more she was talking to that tiny form of life, the more she slowly found purpose and meaning for existence that she had never foreseen before… She started to emancipate herself from the dark sensations she always had, her spirit lit up little by little, and she felt free and happy… Her pregnancy got complicated, she lost the unborn child and was devastated, contemplated finishing it all, but realized she’d been saved by that child she had never met but who would forever live in her heart… She told me: “I decided to welcome the light I rejected at first and embrace its halo now guiding me to create a blaze of my own when that light had to leave me to become myself.”
She actually traveled all the way to the other side of the country to tell me her story. She was a fan of my previous band… That encounter not only impacted me immensely, but it entirely changed my perspective regarding what always felt like the hopeless and dire stream of existence I kept feeding myself with… It doesn’t remove the pain, nor does it make any of the most difficult seasons I have to face easier, but it’s a vibrant reminder that it is possible for me to embrace peace, even the most distant one, that can define the way I perceive the essence of my own current. Some days are better than others, but I’ve learned to let a little bit of light through and it makes enough of a difference for me to live fully rather than only be alive, which, in my case, is highly different. “Kimiyo” has that personal layer as well… And now, through your generous message, I believe the album has your layer as well.
Thank you again for taking a moment to write to me. Human connection is the purpose of it all, and it takes place one wave at a time.
Don’t hesitate to write me back,
      Your friend,
      Alex
PS: “Kimiyo” is the name she would have given her unborn daughter. It means new beginning, spiritual beauty, and generational awakening.
