The Sonic balloons are very interesting because they actually coincide with the state of the franchise. The Classic Sonic balloon was debuted in 1993, where Sonic was near the peak of his popularity with the release of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but went away while his popularity was waning in the late 90s. Meanwhile, the Modern Sonic ballon debuted during Sonic's 20th anniversary with the release of the well-received Sonic Generations, but went away after the release of Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom. Hopefully he comes back next year considering how well the series is starting to do now.
It is actually the eighth, but it depends on what you'd call a "version". The problem with Snoopy is how it's often in dispute as to whether or not the 1969 Astronaut Snoopy is counted as part of the 1968 balloon, or its own thing entirely, separate from the Aviator. Thus, you'll see people call the 1987 Skater Snoopy balloon either the second version or third version.
You know what's funny about the 1993 one at 21:59? Snoopy and Woodstock, Woody Woodpecker, Clifford, and Spider-Man would be featured in "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story", the same movie where Rex came from.
It’s interesting how, with licensed characters they were originally classic characters but they slowly started including more recent characters. It also seems like Rex and Chicken Little were added solely to promote the films as both these films did poorly in the box office
This is a incredible amount of work. Amazing. I'm left wondering what type of licensing goes on that Garfield and Sonic get balloons in such a short amount of time but Bugs Bunny is famous for 50 years before he's introduced. And doesn't get enough appearances.

Excellent. I love the ones from 1939 to 1941 annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades the most for being a centerpiece of an early 40’s traditional classic.

Another Fun Fact: Thomas’s UA-cam Channel made a short 3D animation about the blue tank engine himself transforming into a balloon and heading to New York for the 2014 Macy’s parade.
Power rangers getting its first ballon in 2014 is crazy. Especially because it’s MMPR. Like no kid on 2014 was watching that 20 year old show. It should have been Super Megaforce red but whatever.
I'm surprised anyone went to the parade in 2001 with the attacks happening 2 months before the parade, I would assum that people would want to stay clear of New York.
I’m surprised that The Fairly Oddparents or almost anybody from Cartoon Network (Except Adventure Time and Dexter’s Lab) didn’t get featured as a float, or even Mario!
That's great. Love Flies Up To The Sky is actually categorized as a novelty balloon, not a giant balloon. It's a cool design. I'm planning on doing a video on all the novelty balloons next year. I would love to talk with you about your experience.
Since the parade's return from wartime hiatus in 1945, there are fourteen balloons which were "One-edition Wonders", and some could still be in the parade studio in storage to this day.
There's just two more parades left after this year's parade ends, and I predict which characters could have new giant balloons alongside their sponsors for each of them, and I quote: 2025: Super Mario (Nintendo) Harry Potter (HBO and Max) SpongeBob SquarePants Version 4 (Nickelodeon) Kermit the Frog Version 3 (The Walt Disney Company) 2026: Pilgrim Snoopy (Peanuts Worldwide) Winnie-the-Pooh (The Walt Disney Company) Link (Nintendo) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (DreamWorks Classics) Unquote.

What’s even more strange is that Animaniacs didn’t even have a balloon for the parade at the peak of its popularity when the original show aired from 1994-1998.
Nice I'm impressed however something to mention Rexy ran into a stoplight ripping at the mouth and Kermit tore at the stomach one year you also forgot to mention that Popeye had a design flaw in 1957 causing water to pool inside getting spectators wet
Oh man, for years I wanted a Looney Tunes and Animanicas styled float, it would be nice when the show was still bigger in the 90's along with Looney Tunes.

This video is just about the balloons. The Wizard of Oz related materials has made tons of appearances in the parade. Floats, Broadway shows, etc. Wicked performed in 2003.
Very nicely done video, I found this rather comforting with your voice and all, but that's also partly because I find the Macy's Parade in general comforting as well. I love seeing the balloons and their designs become more sophisticated with each passing decade in the timeline. This has been a very enjoyable journey! Can't wait to see next year's parade.

I'm surprised anyone went to the parade in 2001 with the attacks happening 2 months before the parade, I would assum that people would want to stay clear of New York.
Cool to see Thomas
Hello, I have subscribed to your UA-cam channel
Thanks
@SethBailey You welcome
I want kermit or any muppet to be in one of the next few parades
I’m surprised that The Fairly Oddparents or almost anybody from Cartoon Network (Except Adventure Time and Dexter’s Lab) didn’t get featured as a float, or even Mario!
It’s sad that they didn’t add halo master chief or Marcus from gears of war holding the cog flag
Those would be some pretty intense Thanksgiving balloons. Though I agree, giant Master Chief would be awesome.
I hope they make a movie about it
You left out LOVE FLIES UP TO THE SKY in 2020. I know because I was a handler on that balloon. The weird Star Fish with polka dots balloon.
That's great. Love Flies Up To The Sky is actually categorized as a novelty balloon, not a giant balloon. It's a cool design. I'm planning on doing a video on all the novelty balloons next year. I would love to talk with you about your experience.
SPONGEBOB ARE YOU READY KIDS AYE AYE CAPTAIN
I feel like after ‘97 you see less tall balloons and more long and low balloons
32:48 Greatest balloon of all time
Wonder what happens to the one off balloons
That's a great question. I am not sure, sometimes they are featured in other parades. I might need to look into this more.
Since the parade's return from wartime hiatus in 1945, there are fourteen balloons which were "One-edition Wonders", and some could still be in the parade studio in storage to this day.
Pikachu has had appeared 24 times
I didn’t realize how much they reused the balloons. But I guess it makes sense
Its football game for me on Thanksgiving. California
Happy Thanksgiving everyone🦃🦃🦃🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!
Is there a book with all the balloons in it.
Fun Fact:
Izzy was the Atlanta 1996 Olympic mascot, and the only one featured at the Parade.
i wish there's a mario and luigi balloon
There's just two more parades left after this year's parade ends, and I predict which characters could have new giant balloons alongside their sponsors for each of them, and I quote:
2025:
Super Mario (Nintendo)
Harry Potter (HBO and Max)
SpongeBob SquarePants Version 4 (Nickelodeon)
Kermit the Frog Version 3 (The Walt Disney Company)
2026:
Pilgrim Snoopy (Peanuts Worldwide)
Winnie-the-Pooh (The Walt Disney Company)
Link (Nintendo)
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (DreamWorks Classics)
Unquote.
Where are you getting that the parade only has two years left?
@SethBailey I meant that there's only two years left until we reach the 100th parade.
@kennethjames763 gotcha! Those are some fun predictions. I'd love to see Link.
They should also bring back hello kitty as a balloon but as long if it’s ok with Sanrio first
@@kennethjames763 Don’t forget these:
- How to Train Your Dragon Toothless (DreamWorks Animation; returning to celebrate the opening of Universal Epic Universe and its How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk, the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, and the 15th Anniversary of How to Train Your Dragon)
- Funko POP! Jurassic World T-Rex or Velociraptor Blue (Funko, Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment; created to celebrate the release of the fourth Jurassic World movie)
- LEGO STAR WARS Holiday Mandalorian and Grogu or Funko POP! STAR WARS Mandalorian and Grogu (Funko and Lucasfilm; created to celebrate the release of the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie)
I wish there were Animaniacs-shaped balloons in the parade.
What’s even more strange is that Animaniacs didn’t even have a balloon for the parade at the peak of its popularity when the original show aired from 1994-1998.
Feel badfor barney lol
In the years they were also somethings that are like the balloons called balloonicals, it’s where the balloon will ride a vehicle
Nice I'm impressed however something to mention Rexy ran into a stoplight ripping at the mouth and Kermit tore at the stomach one year you also forgot to mention that Popeye had a design flaw in 1957 causing water to pool inside getting spectators wet
Thanks. Yeah, over the years there have been a lot of design flaws and accidents, I might have to do a video just on them.
@@SethBailey You're welcome that might've been the only parade balloon to pool up with water if I recall
i remember a Tiny Toons balloon. wonder if it was on a float then?
Rex of “we’re back” also crashed into a lamppost
Oh man, for years I wanted a Looney Tunes and Animanicas styled float, it would be nice when the show was still bigger in the 90's along with Looney Tunes.
I would love to have an Animaniacs float.
@ChristineH-d7d It would be nice.
@@YakkoWarnerTower Yakko's the man!
Thomas should never be retired
What’s the top 5 most common characters to appear in the Macy’s thanksgiving day parade?
Characters featured in the most parades
- Snoopy has been in 43 parades
- Ronald McDonald has been in 31
- Rocky and Bullwinkle in 26
- Pikachu in 24
- Sinclair’s Dino in 24
Longest Running Balloons
- Happy Dragon - 23 Parades
- Bullwinkle - 23 Parades
- Linus the Lionhearted - 21 Parades
- Underdog - 20 Parades
- Smokey Bear (1st Version) - 17 Parades
@@SethBailey thanks:)
Spongebob has been in every parade since 2004.
My favorite character that I wish to see is Roadrunner
You'd think the 2013 parade would mention Oz the Great and Powerful.
This video is just about the balloons. The Wizard of Oz related materials has made tons of appearances in the parade. Floats, Broadway shows, etc. Wicked performed in 2003.
Funfact: kermits balloon crashed into a building and he deflated
The background of 25:49 😂
Chicken run came same year 2000s lol
I believe the Haribo Gummy Bear and an updated Dora were also featured in this 2024 parade as well/
Dora was actually a float balloon and the Haribo was a novelty balloon.
Stopping kids from walking around in dark
Elf on the shelf did not show up in the parade it got replace by Santa balloon
Interesting. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Does anyone know if the Pikachu snowman balloon was made first. Or the plush with the same design that you could get off the Pokemon Center website. I'd love to know because I could see it going both ways
2:17 (pause to see) did this make kids cry? Im just curious because that thing is genuinely creepy
I was born in 1992and this is so interesting
felix also caught oon fire
Wonder where they keep them
I am part of the Clown Team of the Detroit Fire Department so I’m always in the parade
That's awesome! It's amazing to me how many people are involved in putting the parade together. I hope you have a fun time tomorrow. I heard it's supposed to be pretty wet.
Wasn't the big nosed balloon from 1938 Jimmy Durante rather than Pinocchio?
Sick
Did they really have the elf riding the fox balloon at the parade this year. I watched the whole live stream and did not see it. I don’t think I saw Minnie either?
I was born this year 34:40 ❤❤❤
