OK, so as always the specs have been manipulated or misinterpreted by the media. First off the Apache can carry up-to 16 hell-fire missiles on its 4 under wing pylons in racks of 4. These are a 70mm diameter Unguided rocket and up to 19 can be carried per pod. The rockets can be carried with various warhead and fusing options. All 4 of the main pylons are classed as "wet" meaning they can carry auxiliary fuel tanks or "drop tanks" these increase ferry range, combat endurance or loiter ability of the helicopter but again using the hard points for this role reduces weapons loadout. Finally the cannon can hold upto 1200 rounds of 30mm dual purpose ammunition but a reduced capacity magazine is fitted to allow an auxiliary fuel bag to be carried in its place to increase range and endurance. In Afghanistan British Apaches would carry typically 3-4 hellfire, 16 CV-7 rockets of mixed warhead configuration and about 450-500 rounds of 30mm. The aux fuel tank was fitted to the ammunition magazine. The reduced load saved weight, drag and improved fuel economy, range and loiter over the target area. British Apaches due to their more powerful RollsRoyce engines were able to carry more fuel and weapons than their american cousins in the hot and high environment, The extra power available allowed them to also retain their mast mounted longbow fire control radars. This enabled the crew to have the ability utilize the radars terrain mapping modes as well as giving improved situational awareness of both battlefield and management of air traffic operation within the immediate vicinity.
Stoneskin Gargoyle the wingtips can carry a pylon for air to air missiles. A single sidewinder can be carried on this station. Or a twin launcher for the stinger missile. I belive a single starstreak cannbe carried and is the missle selected for use by the British Army for self defence. As far as I am aware it has yet to be deployed in combat as the threat of ememy aircraft over our theatre of operations has yet to exist.
they may hve the spots but we never put stuff on them here in the usa not in all my years of working on them or any of my far more experienced buddies have we ever put those pylons on
They do have the mounts, but as you say, they're never used. There hasn't been a combat situation since they've been developed that they've been required to be used. We dominated Iraqi air power, much as it was, and the various terrorist groups we've fought against over the last forty years haven't had any air power to pit it against. So whilst they can take them, there's yet to be a reason to do so. A war with another major nation would certainly see them adapted, though, as they add marginal weight and provide at least some air-to-air capability.
Apache Longbow* The radar version is called Longbow. Yeah, the radar dome might look like a tumor, but its still a damn sight more practical than a Hind
They are different, the 64D and the AustaWestland variants. The latter is better then its American forerunner in several areas and isn't worse in any. In terms of weaponry, the updated FCR and RFI electronics suite and better engines. Though, I definitely wouldn't say it was more practical then a Hind. The Apache is significantly less survivable, the Hind has troop carrying capability as well as a weapon suite to match the Apache's effectiveness and comparable fire control, tracking and radar systems. I believe its almost as quick and whilst its less maneuverable, it does have the armoured chassis and ludicrous survivability to make up for that and being, effectively, a squad transport is a major plus too.
this car handles like a dream.i heard u can take a 90 degree corner at like 60 and keep a lane.its like its on tracks.and weighing less than a ton wit 190hp,dats amaza-zing.
I flew this and I'm both a US Army and British Army Apache trained pilot / instructor. It was all a bit of fun, don't take it so seriously!! 12 HF? Missile Lock? and yes of course we'd have used the 30mm cannon and yes a US Army AH Driver could have killed it in 10 secs! So could I in "The Real World"! But then the clip would only last 10 secs!! In the real world the car would just blow up and you wouldn't see the AH!!! Again, not very good TV. This is just a short clip of the bit shown on the TV. Some of the comments / replies on here are even more BS than the clip… Really people get a life…! I had a great day "Fooling around" and not taking it seriously. The original plan was to shoot 30mm or CRV7's at a caravan, but the "green" party wouldn't allow us to do it on the range!! Am I the best AH Driver in the world….? Of course I am!!! :-)
I'll agree [reluctantly] that the Type R engine is an amazing peice of engineering but it still lacks the punch delivered by the 3S-GTE. If you've never tried you should give yourself the opportunity to drive a 3S-GTE powered vehicle. Besides, they've made the odd choice to use a Celica engine - I just think it would be poetic to make that upgrade. Afterall, even the "Ultimate 7th Gen celica" developed by one of the millens used that swap to great results, as did the HKS Supra.

***** en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine#2ZZ-GE "A typical "over-rev" can damage the oil pump, commonly disintegrating the lobe ring, resulting in damage similar to the picture at right." - I'm saying this because I had a 2ZZ-GE's pump fail on me at just 6500 rpm :(
***** www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=423605 "As for problems, the early models(01-02) had the oil pumps go but its quite uncommon on the later ones." www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=8&f=23&t=977446&i=100&mid=0&nmt=Toyota+Corolla+T+sport+190bhp "Our engines dont loose oil generally and are really well lubricated, but the oil pump has been known to be an issue." www.civiclife.net/board/topic/135361-toyota-celica-190tsport/ "The main reason for fucked engines is oil starvation, a lot of people tend to down shift badly and over rev the engine massively which will cause the oil pump to break which in turn then starves the engine of oil and boom.. fucked engine." That's the first three links. Should I teach you how to Google?
***** Actually, I was just pointing out that, despite your assertion, there are plenty of people commenting about the 2ZZ-GE engine. And the 2ZZ-GE is still the engine that went into the Exige. For example, here's a company that provides updated gears for the oil pump for LOTUS EXIGE engines. www.blackwatchracing.com/Lotus-Elise-Exige-EN24-4340-Machine-Oil-Pump-Gears-p/1149.htm It reads "This is not an uncommon failure, which WILL destroy the engine with it!" And here's an uprated oil pump for the Exige that you say is unnecessary. www.eliseparts.com/products/show/32/1279/uprated-2zz-oil-pump/ "The standard gears are known to shatter in racing applications at high RPM or through cavitation and vibration. This sudden loss of oil pressure can cause catastrophic engine damage."
Lol I always look at the comments to a video, expecting to see a conversation about a video but it's always about what country is best at everything! I'm from England, but agree that French and English are similar. Something I found whilst trying to learn French. Why does it even matter?!?! All I was going to comment on originally was that this clip is cut down from what was shown on tv, where the chase first chase scene was much longer.
Really! Most US Pilots wouldn't pass the UK Course. Why am I qualified to say this… because unlike you I've flown with both and completed both US and UK Apache AQC and CTT. But its all a bit of fun!!
I'm with you on the fun, but saying they wouldn't pass is like saying most the British rugby players couldn’t even play American Football. I'm sure they could, they just don't. What may I ask does the British AQC teach that is outside the relm of US pilot capabilities? This is the only place I have ever heard of the "elite" British Apache pilots.
Scott Woodcock You would need to ask one of the 'Elite' US Army Apache pilots that have done the UK course to get a fair answer. We don't have the numbers you have so have to be more selective and have a higher standard at the end of the AQC equivalent. I'd class all AH Pilots as "Among" the elite!! I'm sure we both have good and not so good pilots!! But back to the point, the video was all a bit of fun and a great day out! If your an AH driver you know what is correct and what isn't! And what makes good TV etc!! "To those like us"
@@fastsardine7829 not really. Its over 250 kg lighter and lotus arent even trying with it. They arent using crazy materials/technology hence the much cheaper price tag. I would take the emira anyday. A manual drivers car that has an actual sound, vibrations and is light? I would take that over an appliance anyday.
To much safety crap they have to pile in them now. Like millions of airbags, cameras all round, GPS tracking, lane assist etc. It all adds weight :/ The old Lotuses were so light because they had none of that. 90% of the car was analogue. Just an ECU for the engine and power assisted brakes. That was it, no power steering, no airbags, traction control etc.
ThaOlBoy Who do you think it is then? You are probably one of these people that think the US Marines are more dangerous than the SAS. The american propaganda from hollywood certainly seems to be working.
Not at all. I don't bleed everything American. What I DO KNOW is that the American chopper boys get more fly time and combat experience than anybody else on the planet; short of the Israelis. I believe in being patriotic to your country however you would never hear myself make a blind statement such as that one. "Best pilots in the world?" I guess the narrator never heard of US Navy pilots and the requirement to land on a moving aircraft carrier day/night?
My dad and my dads mate organised the Apache with the army!! My dad bought his m3 on the year before and said if they wanted an Apache and then bought it on..... he was driven round the track by the sting in a McLaren Mercedes SLR😃😃
@KeleentProductions I envy you. Not just the fact you OWN a lotus but the fact that you're not a 6'4" giant who can't fit in one. No seriously, I'm learning in a Citoren C3 and I have to have the seat back as far as it will go, and I also find the pedals really squishy down there.
There was a full 2-3 minutes of cat and mouse that they cut from from here, including when he tried stopping directly underneath the chopper but them got blown out by the rotors downwash.
It is more like an older brother just giving you a hard time. He isn't seriously anti american, he just likes to joke around about it and the backwards way we do laws over here especially.
yeah I remembered this while watching the TG:US premiere I also noticed a clip in a commercial of a car filling w/ water like the British Leyland episode last year
And the engine in the exige is from a Toyota as clearly stated in the video. The l4 was actually designed by both toyota and yamaha. But it's still japanese.
The Kamov doesn't have fire-and-forget weaponry and while the 12 missiles can lock onto other aircraft it requires the pilot to maintain a laser on the target making him vulnerable to returned fire. The Hokum is great for some missions but is outclassed in others. Personally I'd have gone with the Havoc (Mi-28).
Originally made in America, sold to and improved on by the British, who now also use an upgraded version. So both sides use the same damn awesome helicopter.
I mean, not really from a car in this price range. Name something that keeps up for under $70,000 in stock form. The closest to it is the Alfa 4C. And for the price of a new 4C, you can get a 2009 Exige + $30,000 in mods. If you're comparing to $300,000 supercars, sure. This is also ignoring the fact that the Exige Cup 430 exists, though is not not available in north america.

1 26.9 (respect)
the double cam is amazing.

Poor little chopper, not as versatile, simplistic, and reliable as Russian helicopter.
"The front splitter and the rear spoiler work together to create real downforce like you get with an F1 car"
Back in the day when downforce was impressive on road cars
Yes it does. Emissions standards are regulated by the EPA. There's even a wikipedia article. search for "United States emission standards."
I wonder if Lotus replaced Toyota's self destructing oil pump that killed so many VVTL-i engines
***** en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine#2ZZ-GE "A typical "over-rev" can damage the oil pump, commonly disintegrating the lobe ring, resulting in damage similar to the picture at right." - I'm saying this because I had a 2ZZ-GE's pump fail on me at just 6500 rpm :(
***** I looked on the Toyota forums and found over a two dozen.
***** You are are aware of how few of these engines Toyota made, right? It might be a small % but given the numbers, it's not nothing.
***** www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=423605
"As for problems, the early models(01-02) had the oil pumps go but its quite uncommon on the later ones."
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=8&f=23&t=977446&i=100&mid=0&nmt=Toyota+Corolla+T+sport+190bhp
"Our engines dont loose oil generally and are really well lubricated, but the oil pump has been known to be an issue."
www.civiclife.net/board/topic/135361-toyota-celica-190tsport/
"The main reason for fucked engines is oil starvation, a lot of people tend to down shift badly and over rev the engine massively which will cause the oil pump to break which in turn then starves the engine of oil and boom.. fucked engine."
That's the first three links. Should I teach you how to Google?
***** Actually, I was just pointing out that, despite your assertion, there are plenty of people commenting about the 2ZZ-GE engine. And the 2ZZ-GE is still the engine that went into the Exige.
For example, here's a company that provides updated gears for the oil pump for LOTUS EXIGE engines. www.blackwatchracing.com/Lotus-Elise-Exige-EN24-4340-Machine-Oil-Pump-Gears-p/1149.htm
It reads "This is not an uncommon failure, which WILL destroy the engine with it!"
And here's an uprated oil pump for the Exige that you say is unnecessary.
www.eliseparts.com/products/show/32/1279/uprated-2zz-oil-pump/
"The standard gears are known to shatter in racing applications at high RPM or through cavitation and vibration.
All I was going to comment on originally was that this clip is cut down from what was shown on tv, where the chase first chase scene was much longer.
wow thats a weird looking hennessy venom
hmmm i remember when i was a kid my favorite toy that i would play everyday was a apache gunship and some tanks as enemies :D
the best pilots the army!!! ----------RAF are the best
+Bonjaous BAF Problem we have here is that the RAF don't use the Apache......
i know but the RAF have the Chinook, Merlin(moving to Navy), Lynx.
True.
+PCZymosis wouldve ben flown by a AAC (Army Air Corps) Pilot
RAF being in the army is a new one to me... Flying Apaches is also pretty new as well...
It weighs less than a ton but you get 190 horsepower...That's like putting a saturn five rocket in a food blender! Lol!! Love that line.
Voltic vs Buzzard
VenomHadesExtra Buzzard is based on the MH-6, not the Apache
So excited to put that 2zzge in my mr2 😚
As a US Army helicopter pilot, I disagree with parts of this video. I suppose rooting for the home team is ok though.
I disagree too! Also I know American Apache pilots can beat British Army pilots any day of the week, any time of day or year!
"To those like us"
Shaun Wyatt You loser don't have a stronger military get over yourselves
gotta love the 2zzge!!!
2:08 :D
Loved the Ace of Spades
8 hellfire missiles. 8. not 12. good vid though. =)
It CAN carry up to 16 (4 per Pod), but in that case the Hydra (FFAR) Pods are missing.
“Add lightness and simplify”
*Evija sweats nervously*
emira stand in the same line
@@fastsardine7829 not really. Its over 250 kg lighter and lotus arent even trying with it. They arent using crazy materials/technology hence the much cheaper price tag.
I would take the emira anyday. A manual drivers car that has an actual sound, vibrations and is light? I would take that over an appliance anyday.
To much safety crap they have to pile in them now. Like millions of airbags, cameras all round, GPS tracking, lane assist etc. It all adds weight :/
The old Lotuses were so light because they had none of that. 90% of the car was analogue. Just an ECU for the engine and power assisted brakes. That was it, no power steering, no airbags, traction control etc.
LOl beat the GT3
dude :40 that would be an epic car background or wallpaper. hah it looks so epic!
British Army the best pilots in the world?!?! The BRITISH ARMY?!?!?! Wow, ok!!
"Best pilots in the world?" I guess the narrator never heard of US Navy pilots and the requirement to land on a moving aircraft carrier day/night?
thenutlow No. Israeli pilots are probably the best.
Lol that's what I said.
ThaOlBoy why do you people take it seriously?
an Apache flew over our school field at break time.
it was awsome
My dad and my dads mate organised the Apache with the army!! My dad bought his m3 on the year before and said if they wanted an Apache and then bought it on..... he was driven round the track by the sting in a McLaren Mercedes SLR😃😃
YNATZMAMBA 😳😳😳
One of my favorite cars
@KeleentProductions I envy you. Not just the fact you OWN a lotus but the fact that you're not a 6'4" giant who can't fit in one.
No seriously, I'm learning in a Citoren C3 and I have to have the seat back as far as it will go, and I also find the pedals really squishy down there.
RIP Lemmy
There was a full 2-3 minutes of cat and mouse that they cut from from here, including when he tried stopping directly underneath the chopper but them got blown out by the rotors downwash.
It is more like an older brother just giving you a hard time. He isn't seriously anti american, he just likes to joke around about it and the backwards way we do laws over here especially.
yeah I remembered this while watching the TG:US premiere
I also noticed a clip in a commercial of a car filling w/ water like the British Leyland episode last year
And the engine in the exige is from a Toyota as clearly stated in the video.
Personally I'd have gone with the Havoc (Mi-28).
the song on 5:19 is called motorhead-ace of spades. i like that song!
Think the RAF might have something to say about the Army having the best pilots in the world.
5:06 ACE OF SPADES !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Originally made in America, sold to and improved on by the British, who now also use an upgraded version. So both sides use the same damn awesome helicopter.
Watching this in 2019, these specs are hilarious.
Jeremy Clarkson+fast maneuverable car+AH-64D Apache Longbow+Ace of Spades by Motörhead=badass
Love that they acknowledge the Apache would never engage at such a short distance
