Why was the concrete installed in the first place, seems like a terrible idea! Moonee Ponds creek sucks compared to Darebin and Merri so I am pleased it will be improved a little!
To combat flooding & erosion that would happen after heavy rainstorms. The area near Flemington Bridge downstream frequently flooded before it was channelled in the 1960s. If they don't plan this removal properly... we'll be seeing a return of floods along the area.
I was wondering this too, why they don’t mention what will done to prevent the flood. Great to restore wildlife but if the concrete was installed to reduce flooding in the 1960s, what are doing now to reduce flooding if concrete is removed. Am I missing something??!
