So what I've gathered from these types of stories (falling in love with your new step-sibling) is that no one has ever had the thought occur to them to make the people who are supposed to be step-siblings already lovers and then force them to be step-siblings later. Like if you were to introduce your new boyfriend/girlfriend to your parent and they also happen to be dating your new bf's/gf's parent. This would make this pseudo-incest thing less awkward to watch.
