I am disappointed that the Movie was never completed it seems. I loved listening to her as young Girl in my Mother's home. Her voice and music were so hypnotic. Lauren did a phenomenal job, portraying her from what I've seen in this clip.
I remember La Lupe walking into the Cuban sandwich shop on 137th & Bway. It was 3 AM & she had just finished her set at the Habana - San Juan Nightclub across the street. She quietly ordered her food & ordered sandwiches & coffee for all the customers present. No fanfare & no loud entrances , she was a kind and humble soul . I know that she is in heaven.
She always appeared at NYC s Corso on Sun. nights. She would openly mingle at the bar with the patrons . La Lupe didn t suffer from the superiority complex like many so called stars do. She dressed elegantly, but conservatively. circa late 70s. RIP Yoli.

It is a shame to see that the latin music industry has forgotten her and have not praised her work like it deserves to be praised few artist like La India have done tributes to her in her albums. Anyone that knows music knows La Lupe and her legendary status in music because she was unique in her style of singing and stage presence that cant never be forgotten.Long Live La Queen of Latin Music Soul!!!

It's crazy to me because La India never mentions her and has redone so many of her songs. That's how I actually found out about La Lupe. I looked up "Que Te Pedi" because La India made it over and La Lupe came up. Now I am a die hard fan.
La India can’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as La Lupe or Celia Cruz. With such a title you’d think she’d promote salsa...but no. A mediocre artist like her hasn’t put out an original album in years and has been mute on the subject. La Lupe and Celia, true royalty of salsa, Queens in their own right.

The songs remind me of my youth when I really didn't appreciate this music now that I'm older a father and a grandfather I'm constantly looking for music like this how beautiful is our Latin culture they will never be music like this ever again I'm just glad that I was brought up listening to it
La Yiyi (Lupe) used to rehearse behind my house with Lalo Rodriguez in Carolina Puerto RIco. This actress just made me remember all that. It is not about being or looking identical while in character but, it is more important to pull the audience into the story and Mrs. Lauren Velez did a great job.
i consider her a SUPREEEEME singer, with a tremendous contribution to the latin music and one of the huge artists throughout arts, not only music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now this is cool. La Lupe's story is tragic and needs to be told. I'm a big fan of Fania and what happened to the musicians that totally revamped Salsa to new heights is a shame. I hope this story does for her what El Cantante did for Hector Lavoe.

On Celia the series, many of the things that Lola did were based on the stories and rumors of what La Lupe did such as her drug addiction, which is nonsense, also in the series Lola was sexually abused by her stepfather, La Lupe was never abused nor did she have a stepfather, Lola committed suicide, La Lupe did not, she died in her sleep of a heart attack.
