    Bruce Lee was trained in Wing Chun first, but through philosophy he realized he must learn other fighting styles. Not for using it himself, but for knowing his enemies' moves and learning how to counter attack. His attack style is basically "anything goes".
    Kick to the nearest target, punch to the nearest target, be extremely fast. Empty thoughts during fighting, If something doesnt feel comfortable to an individual, he shouldnt do those movements because too much energy is wasted thinking. If you are able to bite somebody to benefit your outcome, it is encouraged.
    Everything is permitted in fighting because in real life, when you fight for real and not competition, its his life or your life.
    Thats what Bruce Lee taught.
    He was the father of martial arts, but he didnt try to master all fighting styles, he just wanted to KNOW about them to better understand his opponent and win the fight. The fighting style itself has no form and no way to teach it, there is no guidelines to follow. He was against the strictness of competition fighting and "old-fashion" martial arts.
    Some of the best Jeet Kun Do students say "Everything is nothing, and nothing is everything." and Bruce Lee himself says "When one has NO form, he can be all forms."

    • @eurostar0711
      @eurostar0711 8 років тому +45

      This is also from Bruce Lee.
      "I have not invented a "new style," composite, modified or otherwise that is set within distinct form as apart from "this" method or "that" method. On the contrary, I hope to free my followers from clinging to styles, patterns, or molds. Remember that Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which to see "ourselves". . . Jeet Kune Do is not an organized institution that one can be a member of. Either you understand or you don't, and that is that."

    • @Geekman333

      While everything you said is true, I believe one must learn a style well before one can discard it. This is what Bruce did. The reality is that most people will never reach such a high level of accomplishment in any martial art. Simply put, martial arts must be your first priority in life if you even hope to come close to such a high level.

    • @chessten
      @chessten 8 років тому +30

      To be honest, one thing you said is wrong. He's fast, but never tried to be the fastest. So, to say execute his most extremely fast is wrong. Bruce Lee once said, "I realised that I can be very fast, but there will be some who are faster than me. To beat them, my moves need to be cunning." And that is how he founded Jeet Kune Do, the way of the intercepting fist. Opponents can be faster than you, but you do not need to be faster to beat him if you know how to intercept before he launches his move.

    2:26 you can see that Bruce lands his punch faster than Bruce's eyes are even fully fixated on his opponent's face, it basically means he isn't using his eyes to fight, he's feeling every inch of body movement between him and his opponent instantaneously letting his instinct do the work through trained body mechanics. He had indeed performed Ultra Instinct before it even was a thing in DBS.

      It's not easy or every other HK Kung Fu movie would have done the same. Bruce Lee became a superstar in Asia because his fights were realistic.
      It's difficult to choreograph the moves to be as real as possible without hurting or killing anyone. His level of control was astounding. He would often make contact but pull the punch from being too damaging.
      He would also go full speed (well almost, he had to slow down for the cameras otherwise be a blur) but only come within a hair's distance from contact. If the other actor moved they'd get hurt.
      He often had professional martial arts as costars to prevent accidents.

    When fighting the black guy, Bruce slips to his left the first time. Then watch the almost imperceptible movement backwards 2-3 inches so that when the next jab came he didn't need to move. All you who claim that this is not Wing Chun, keep something in mind. Bruce Lee trained under Master Ip Man himself. Ip Man said that the way Bruce Lee adapted his own Wing Chun was the spriritual truth of Martial Arts. To not be locked in place, to not become static, to grow. Bruce Lee took all the things he learned from Master Ip Man and made them his own, perfecting his own Gung Fu through Jeet Kune Do.

      ***** Lifting 400lbs does prove you have strong muscles, but it's not practical strength. With all those muscles it's hard to move and especially hard to be quick and fast. In a fight, unless the opponent is all tied up, you won't be able to touch him.

    • @jkd4life1995
      @jkd4life1995 9 років тому +52

      Bodybuilders don't train for strength, they train for huge muscles. Powerlifters don't train for huge muscles, they train for raw strength. Martial artists don't train for large muscles, they train technique, then power and speed. So #1, bodybuilders don't give a rats ass what they lift as long as they are the biggest dudes out there with 4 percent bodyfat. Powerlifters (who train for strength and explosiveness) train their muscles to be explosive, giving them the most power in the shortest amount of time. So tell me how that's not practical strength? I can understand if you weigh over 200 lbs it's detrimental to speed but seriously, go look up Johnny Candito and tell me he's slow and unpractical.

    Anyone else watch 3:12 in super slow mode? Fakes low with the right, gets blocked, comes up high on the right and gets blocked with the other guard, elbows the blocking guard, and chops! Guys...this all happens in one second and in slow mode you can check the response on the defender....this is...legit something bruce lee could have pulled off. all on the offensive, 3 split second attacks to different areas of the body and a block that would be considered on offensive counter...jeesus.

      Bruce incorporated the wing chun traps and hand strikes in addition to kicks in honor of the art he began studying and the evolvement of his training. Although he found wing chun by itself limiting, he still respected its most effective principles when combined with the arts he later studied. That's why they're in his movies.
