Could totally see that coming. Our local trailer dealer has a couple of trailers with broken spreader tail gates . Look just because they say it can doesn’t mean it will.
Oh that’s unfortunate. I have a dump trailer like yours except I have the regular barn doors. I’ve thought of getting a trailer with a combination gate but I think I’ll keep my trailer, thanks for posting.
Dirt weighs way more than Google says it does usually. Little 7x14 trailer can't handle even half of that. 7ftx14ftx4ft= 14y3 or 7y3 at half. So 14k at half full, 28k at full. Dirt and concrete are nightmares. Glad no one was hurt. I made the same mistake starting out though!
If it's a carry on trailer their highest rated trailer is 11k. You're probably double/triple that. But hard to tell the size and amount from the video. If you want to over load go with a tri axle or a way over built trailer like gatormade. Cheers!
I get weight tickets on each load it's 10,000 lb I question that all the time because sometimes it looks like less and sometimes it looks like more I think it has to do with the moisture content
@@mrbeardlygames7552 that was exactly 10,000 lb I have the ticket to prove it picked up the material drove 15 miles and broke it first time ever manufacturer place that after seeing the video and the ticket
Obvious design flaw there. The center latch on those "barn door" style spreader gates should be 2 or 3 horizontal 5/8 or 3/4 inch diameter sliding pins, a good foot long in order to take that kind of stress. Nothing some welding, bar stock and schedule 40 black pipe can't fix.
It's a 14,000 lb dump trailer with 10,000 lb of material in it manufacturer said it was a defect and replace parts I showed them the video with my with my material ticket to prove the weight that was my first time using it The gate broke three more times after that they replaced it every time
With a dump trailer your not supposed to lift to full height before starting to drive forward should have started driving after the first little bit broke loose. That way there is not so much weight bearing down on only the one locking point in the center
First off don’t chain the door on the dump trailer, just open the bottom and let it spill out, also you gotta keep moving, don’t keep raising it until it dumps it all, raise it bout 1/2 3/4 then take off SLOWLY, u can always back up and get raise the bed about another 12”
What did you think was going to happen? Did you think the door hing and pin was going to hold a couple thousand pounds falling into it. You open the doors and hook them open first. 🤦♂️
You don't even have the chain set correctly. Barely anything could come out. You put 5 tons on that door. What do you expect. Totally operator error...
It's a dump trailer not a tri-axle. I've seen many inexperienced users do this. Live and learn. Sometimes the hard way and sometimes the expensive way.
For the last ten years I've had three different dump trailers never had a problem with tailgate I finally buy me a brand new trailer direct from the manufacturer told them exactly what my intentions to do with it and they said no problem they have replaced the back gate three different times
I do this regularly with my Texas pride dump. Knock on wood but no issues yet. I’ve never even hear of this happening. The spreader gates are supposed to be designed for this.
This is your fault. If you want to spread it out thin going forward then you need to start driving forward so the heavy material doesn't pile on the gate while it's flapped open at the bottom. If you wanted to dump this all in that one spot then you should have the doors completely open from the middle and secured on either side completely out of the way so the material obviously doesn't have an obstacle. You had thousands of pounds piling up on the door, you weren't going forward, what did you think was going to happen? You're lucky they keep replacing it I'd tell you to kick rocks
@@JohnDoe-fg2oqIf individual was spreading then the chain should have been let out more on the gate, then start to move forward and stop raising the trailer, material was starting to fall towards back gate, with momentum of driving forward would have moved material backwards without all at once all material falling backwards breaking the gate Then as material emptied out of trailer then gently raise trailer to move material gradually towards back of the trailer Simple physics and common sense together as in this case makes no mistakes The other way it's operator error If he was dumping material in one area, not spreading, he needed to open gates in which he clearly forgot or did not know he needed to do Either way operator error
I would consider this partly operator error, partly loader error partly manufacturing isdue. I personally would have raked it level and toward the tailgate first. I feel the design of the latch could have been designed better. I'm currently looking at several brands of dump trailers and see design and quality all over the place. You get what you pay for and the cheap trailers do cut corners.
@@erikcooley7927 it's true you get what you pay for the gate was replace three times repaired 6 the cylinders having replace once and axles we replaced
Mainly just comes down to Heavy duty. Loads are always against the gate when spreading.... In my experience if the load hasn't broke and started to already touch the gate it's not ready to spread. You'll pull away, steadily lifting the box and then most of your load is towards the top half of the box making the risk of tipping higher. Always lift till the load breaks and is already putting some pressure on the gate, then start your spread. But also don't put the whole load on the gate because then I won't open. Too much pressure on the gate not allowing the air cylinder to pop open.
Right the jacks are going to stress if you have all that weight being supported while fully extending! Helps to open the gate, especially since you won’t get the gates open with all the rubble putting pressure on the gates! Js
Kaufman is the way to go best $9k spent I have 4 of them they aren’t top of the line as far as paint and add ons but they definitely do the job and are tough. Have had one for over 3 years and haven’t had to replace but a Battery and use it everyday
Cant quite see, is there a cam lock at the top of the gates? Could possibly put a bar across to give more support. I have a diamond c and it only has the cam lock at the bottom, nothing at the top locking the two doors together. 😢
At the end of the day you get what you pay for I bought an inexpensive dump trailer had high expectations this is my fourth dump trailer never had an issue with the gate breaking I step up and spend some serious money and it literally broke on the first day
Probably one of those 16ft dump trailers which have an asking price of 22K 😂 besides sometimes depending on what your dumping you need to help shovel it out. But that would mean work and possibly getting dirt on your hands or clothes 😮
Looks like a bad design to me. For everyone saying operator error that's ridiculous. There's no way to operate this trailer reliability at capacity when dumping and not have this failure. You'd be walking on egg shells every time you dump just hoping the gate holds.
Not a thing seemed wrong with the trailer. This obviously was an operator error as the tailgate was closed when it should have been opened for the gravel to make it out. I hope that the trailer brand is not disclosed but the uploader could be sued for defamation.
The title should read. “New dump trailers owners shockingly don’t know how to properly operate dump trailer .”

Not all dump trailers are equal. Saving $1000 is cool if you are just hauling tree trimming and mulch.
I saved over $1000 on my new 14000lb gvw dump trailer.
I have hauled the max many times. It has not let me down.

They didnt open the rear doors. Not a cheap trailer. This is operator error lol
100% operator error. Should have started move forward when that load began to move. That tailgate was not designed to hold that much weight. 🤨
It works for dump trucks for two reasons , #1 the load doesn’t hit the top of the dump gate and #2 the dump truck gate and pins are super heavy
Dump trucks also don’t have split gates their tail gate is solid.
