Hello Dr. Tori…Thank you for this very informative video. I appreciate your clear descriptions and drawings. I learned so much today! I had an RARP in July, 2022. Since I’ve watched your video, I know what’s going on inside. I’ve seen so many of these videos that are so clinical, and they’re usually in a boring monotone voice. Hello Dr. I have never heard of Retrograde Ejaculation until today. You seemed SOO excited and having fun making this episode during the intro, I had to stick around. Lol. Now you have a big thumbs up and new subscriber! 😊
Thank you for the video. My personal experience (due to BHP medicine) is that retrograde ejaculation can be a bit painful. I think that is worth mentioning.
Thanks very much for this. I'm 69, lost my wife 9 yrs ago to liver cancer, don't go to the doctor anymore, don't want to END my life, but don't want to prolong it, and have things going on that I wonder about, but as long as there is no debilitating pain, I enjoy not knowing too much. Thanks to your video, I know as much as I need to know!

Dr, big thanks for sharing this. The subject matter is very well explianed in simple terms. Thus it was very educational for me. Ive always wondered how this part of the body worked. Hey Tori, thanks for your excellent, clear and cheerful explanation of R.E. I take at least two meds which can and probably do cause it. A couple of years ago, a urologist told me what it was, but didn't clarify anything else about it, including what causes it.
Thanks for the video, I am 53 years old and just started taking tamsulosin which resulted in nothing at all coming out during orgasm. The experience really shocked and panicked me and your video put my mind at ease. Thanks heaps.

Luckily I had heard of retrograde ejaculation so the first time I had nothing come out didn’t freak me out, but it’s still kind of shocking. Thank you so much for posting your video. I do appreciate it as it answers a lot of questions that I have especially as I use a wheelchair due to having cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
Thank you for this detailed explanation. Since having TURP procedure I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation. My doctor was very vague and dismissive of my concerns….
I'm so glad this helped to shed some light, but I'm so sorry to learn that your doctor was dismissive of your concerns. Your concerns are valid, the pelvis carries a lot more sense of self than we realize, I think. I'm not sure it's a viable option, as usually pelvic PT is offered post prostate removal, but I'd be curious if there's anything a pelvic PT could do to help (through the lens of correcting any pelvic floor dysfunction if it's there post-op, that would be based on other symptoms if you're having any - urinary stuff, bowel stuff, pelvic pain, etc.). @@PelvicEmpowerment My urologist never said anything about retrograde ejaculation. In fact I saw him many times questioning why I needed TURP given that I had no problem peeing. He used this rudimentary test called bladder scanner to measure the amount of urine left in the bladder. The measure is quite crude and not done repeatedly to get an average amount over time,. He scared me to death with his warning that I may need a bag attached to me leg to pee in for the rest of my life if I do not agree to the surgery. I still need to get up to pee at night just like before the surgery.Yet I was told that I would not need to get up to pee with the surgery: Ask me if I regret the surgery...
Well, Robert, your doctor may have not informed you about retrograde ejaculation prior to surgery (but it’s clearly written on your consent form prior to surgery), or sometimes during pre-operative explanations by your physician, we as patients might have missed out or neglected the key elements told by our urologist. Much like if we go to buy a computer and the salesman explains all the computer terminology & details and we as consumers can only absorb little information. Prior to surgery, I personally explain the consequences of retrograde ejaculation or other possible short term or long term complications post-TURP to all my patients and let them fully know their options and decide if they want to undergo surgery to IMPROVE peeing (medications can be of limited use if your prostate is too large or your bladder smooth muscle contractions are too weak). But, if you have residual urine after voiding shown on the bladder scan, or maybe gave you an uroflowmetry to determine your flow rate and voiding time, your doctor may be right that in the near or distant future, you might need a Foley catheter to assist you in peeing or micturition. In cases of BPH, initially the flow rate slows down, along with other symptoms but if you cannot fully empty your bladder, that’s called RU or residual urine, then you are on to the next stage of BPH. And soon enough, you might suffer from acute urinary retention. Ok, would you rather have retrograde ejaculation at your age with the inability to have children and some ejaculation displeasure OR be incapacitated the rest of your life with a Foley catheter placed in your urethra that would prevent or hinder you from erection and any future sexual activities? I think the answer would be obvious! As for peeing at night, I think you were once again misinformed by the fact that the operation, TURP itself is done to improve your flow rate and while some patients might decrease nighttime peeing (nocturia) from say, 3-4 times per night to 1-2 times, it is not guaranteed that your nocturia status will improve. That is another subject of ADH and aging, which I will not go into detail. Even your wife, who does not have BPH will need to wake up at nights to pee and will exacerbate as one grows older. I do not usually comment after watching videos, but in your case, I hope that you will find some peace and comfort after my comments and not blame your urologist. After all, as humans, we need two basic INs (drink and eat) and two OUTs (micturition and defecation), and your doc improved your peeing! Or did he not? So have no regrets, my friend! 😢😢😢 Oh, PS, just in case your doctor might have MISSED OUT on informing you that BPH will recur, let me be the first to tell you, as you age, you might suffer from recurrent BPH, so make sure you go back to visit him in a few years! 😅😅😅
Thanks for this video. It’s super helpful. I went to the doc’s with this issue when I was 20, I guess they thought maybe I had an STD (I reported cloudy pee). So they had a look inside and said everything was fine and that I had retrograde ejaculation but not to worry about it as I wasn’t experiencing truly dry org*sms. Which is fine, but really my bigger concern was the underlying cause because I have had no surgeries, no medications that would cause it and no known underlying condition (it’s been 10 years since diagnosis so I would expect to have experienced further symptoms of the mentioned conditions in that time). So I’m sort of left with knowing that my internal bladder sphincter is damaged but having no idea why - which is annoying!
I'm so glad this video was helpful - but how interesting! I'd be curious as the mechanism behind the change if it were happening to me, too. I'm sure you've already made a timeline of events, medical or otherwise, to see if anything lines up... if you have a gut feeling about the origin at all, I'd investigate there! I've found to be true in my experiences as a provider and a patient that no one knows a body like the person living in it, and outcomes are much better if you let those who've cultivated that relationship "drive the car" so to speak!
So I’m 27 and the same thing happened to me. About 1.5 years ago I noticed a change in the color of my semen. And then over the period of a few months it was more liquid clear and then almost non existent. I saw a urologist and after a prostate exam he said I was fine. And that it seems I may have had a prostate infection but has gone away and is better now. However my condition is still ON-GOING. After believing picking up a nicotine habit was the cause I’ve since quit and still it’s ON GOING. I had covid 2 months before this all started and I believe that may be what happened and what’s changed.
Thanks for this good informative video. After X ray treatment for prostate cancer I have experienced some some of these problems my selves. Hope it will improved over time.
I'm so glad that this video was helpful for you, and while I'm so sorry to learn of your cancer, I'm so glad that you've been treated and are on the mend. You know, pending on what kind of symptoms you're experiencing (bladder/bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, etc.), a pelvic physical therapist may be a helpful provider for you! If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you, and at the very least call around/see if you're appropriate at all for their care! pelvicrehab.com/ Wishing you the best in your healing 🧡
@@PelvicEmpowerment thnx for commenting but i wud like to ask you something. Suppose someone having retrograde ejaculation falls asleep immediately after having sex at night, the sperm being left in the bladder whole night might not cause infection to the bladder ? Thnx for replying. ❤
@@soorshehzadah6604 Hmm, that's an excellent question, and a hard one to answer! The bladder has it's own microbiome, we've discovered! So I guess, in theory, if the se*en changed to pH of the bladder... it might encourage bacteria that is fine at one concentration to grow and become problematic...? I don't think this inquiry has been studied/I haven't heard of any case reports, so I don't *think* it's an issue, but I can't be sure (and it's outside of my field, I don't treat retrograde eja*ulation, as I am not a urologist!) But if you're at all worried, you can always pee after you org*sm to ensure that the se*en is out of your bladder!
@@PelvicEmpowerment thnx again for replying and even though you couldnt confirm everything you remain my favorite in the field. Btw i 4got to mention last time that i had undergone a prostatectomy and so next time i see my urologist i will ask him the question. Thnx again 👌👍❤
@@soorshehzadah6604 No problem, thank you so much for the kind words! And if you had a prostatectomy, it likely isn't retrograde eja*ulation causing the dry org*sms! Dry org*sms are inevitable with prostate removal, but not because the se*en goes back into the bladder. I actually made one of my earliest videos on this topic. It's here if you want to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/EjMvDN7q5Zs/v-deo.html I hope it's helpful, and I think chatting with urologist for clarity will be good either way 🧡
Excellent summary on this topic. Five weeks post-TURP myself so no longer on the drug combo of Flomax and Avodart which would affect retrograde ejaculation. Added bonus, my surgeon somehow has preserved normal sexual function, which is not always the case after this operation.
Thank you. I wish my urologist explained my problem as well as you did. I did not understand that my sphincter was staying open. I’ve had two TURPs and was afraid a third was in my future.
I’m so sorry to learn about your TURPs, I hope that you’re healing well ❤️ and I’m glad that this video could put your mind at ease and help you better understand what’s going on when someone has retrograde ejaculation!

Great video, very informative. I had a HOLEP procedure and am suffering from RE. Fortunately at my age 61 infertility is not a problem and it was worth it to be able to pee properly again. I'd recommend the procedure.
Most informative. Been dry for at least 3-4 years now thanks to Type 2 diabetes. Although it doesn't cause any ohysical it does have an effect on self-esteem especially if you used to be able to ejaculate quite copiously.
I am type 2 diabetic. 6 years ago I was dry, my seminal gland was calcified... a change in diet and exercise changed things for me. And yes you are correct it definitely affected my self esteem as a man. Best of luck to you.
I’m pre- diabetic for the last few years , and lately I don’t get excited . Done even feel like doing it . And when i did , not much came out . Not like I did when I was younger . I just lost the urge. Don’t know if it’s because of high blood sugar or possibly the blood pressure pills I’m taking. Or maybe that I’m just getting older.

Oh, PS, just in case your doctor might have MISSED OUT on informing you that BPH will recur, let me be the first to tell you, as you age, you might suffer from recurrent BPH, so make sure you go back to visit him in a few years!
😅😅😅
Thank you, excellent video. GOD bless.
I had no idea this existed. Good education. Thanks.

Are you a diabetic
@@MrPokerblot No! I have a completely clean bill of health otherwise. No surgeries, nothing.
Learned something new. Thank you.
If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you, and at the very least call around/see if you're appropriate at all for their care! pelvicrehab.com/
Wishing you the best in your healing 🧡
Excellent -- Thank You ! 🥰
Excellent. I have gone through all the avaiable posts related to the topic and found this one the best. 👌👌👌❤❤❤ Thnx a lot.👍
I'm so glad this was helpful for you 🧡
@@PelvicEmpowerment thnx for commenting but i wud like to ask you something.
It's here if you want to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/EjMvDN7q5Zs/v-deo.html
I hope it's helpful, and I think chatting with urologist for clarity will be good either way 🧡
Excellent summary on this topic. Five weeks post-TURP myself so no longer on the drug combo of Flomax and Avodart which would affect retrograde ejaculation. Added bonus, my surgeon somehow has preserved normal sexual function, which is not always the case after this operation.
Thanks a lot, you explained so well
You are very knowledgeable about this topic
Respected doctor Ma'am you have very clearly explained, so I am subscribing .
I'm so glad that this was helpful for you, and thank you so much for subscribing! Your support means a lot 🧡
You are the best teacher
Thanks
Terrific video
Nice information
super interesting as always. Would you potentially do a video explaining more about dry ejaculation?
Yes, I'd love to! This topic has been requested a few times now and I wrote it on my master request list, but I'll move it over to my short list 🤗 thank you for the request!
Thanks very much for this video. As I'm on Finasteride and Tamsulosin, and experience these side-effects, I always wondered about the mechanism involved. Luckily these effects don't worry me, so life goes on 🤗🇬🇧
The side effects do worry me, and it worries me to see a woman taking advantage and having a laugh. Don't trust them.
Thnx so very much for the relief you caused me !
Fantastic website.
It just came up on my feed. Yes I had a terps operation last year and was having dry ejaculations. It made me wonder about what was going on and whether it would cause a problem. You've alleviated any concerns I had.
Thank-you for your knowledge shared.
👍🏽🐢
Very helpful thank you 😊
Hello !!! Thanks for sharing
Great video, very informative. I had a HOLEP procedure and am suffering from RE. Fortunately at my age 61 infertility is not a problem and it was worth it to be able to pee properly again. I'd recommend the procedure.
Hi
Can you show me some treatment for retrograde ejeculation after my turp surgery in 2021
Very good video
A very easy to understand video abt RE
Also, thank you for you pleasant disposition. 👌🏿
Thank you, all my questions answered
Thank you so much, awesome effort! 10/10
Aww, thank you so much for this comment!
