  • In this step-by-step video, we show you how hygienic (sanitary) advanced liquid product recovery ('pigging') technology works. Despite sharing a name, pipeline pigging for the process industries is quite different to how its done in the oil and gas industry.
Using an HMI control panel, the operator begins the product transfer sequence. When this sequence has been completed, the operator can then use the HMI control panel to begin the pigging sequence.
The pig is released from its housing and propelled through the pipeline using an appropriate medium. The product is pushed ahead of the pig to its destination.
HPS AccuTects are used to track the movement of the pig through the line and, in this demonstration system, are activated when the pig leaves the launch station and arrives at the return station. The AccuTects are also activated on the pigs return journey. For companies that have longer or more complex pipeline layouts, AccuTects can be installed periodically along the line for ease of mind.

Is it possible to send the pig without the blue liquid, only using air?

Hi, thank you for the comment. We used the blue liquid because it shows up well on video and when we are demonstrating how a pigging system works. HPS pigs can be propelled in a number of ways depending on the application. Our most common means of propelling pigs include compressed air (filtered), carbon dioxide, nitrogen, water, sometimes even the product itself.
