  • In this video, I explain when you might want to start dosing your coral reef tank, how to do it, and what I use to dose mine. Happy Reefing!

Good video. I am an AFR user and love it. My one complaint about it is it doesn't raise PH. Lately I have noticed that the PH didn't get any higher than 7.8. Over the past week or two I have been supplementing the AFR with enough kallkwasser to raise the PH in the tank. I just had to lower the AFR dosage in order to not spike the calcium and alkalinity.

Thank you for that feedback, Ed! That is exactly the info I need to know.

I like AFR, I don't use it because if I need to adjust the Calc only I can't. I may need to dose more Alkalinity than Calcium. so I keep them separated to control what my tank is using more of.

Thank you! That is my concern is being locked into their ratio. If it doesn't work out, I will switch back to the 2 part.

So are you just dosing seachem fusion 1 and 2? Nothing else, no trace element? You do water changes? I am not a noobie, but I have been using the reef moonshiners' method. I do like the results but what I hate is a monthly ICP test and dosing like 7-10 items. I wonder though is there an easier way to do it. Your tanks are beautiful so I am interested in your methods. I am going to start a frag tank and want to try another method on that tank and compare. The primary thing I hate about dosing is I have used 4 different brand of doser and to be honest the Jebao so far has been the best. I just wished that it can keep its calibration in a memory instead of losing it when the power is out. Thanks. I have used all for reef for about a year on my mostly LPS tank and did not see anything special and it was a little harder to keep stability once I moved to a full acro tank. I tried using tropic marin NP bacto-balance with its counterpart A- elements and that was just too tough to get a right balance. I think it may not be possible to do that with an all in one component or two. Every tank is different so every tank needs is different, I guess that is why the moonshiners works well.

I just dose the 2 part Seachem Reef Fusion 1&2. I do monthly water changes to reduce nitrates. I do not do any icp or trace element testing. Thanks for watching!

@@Reefer_Matt , definitely will look into that.

Kalk is sooo much cheaper AND it raises PH. Use a dosing pump and it’s super easy.

I hear ya. I just can't bring myself to use it. Too many reefers that I know had tank crashes from it being overdosed somehow.

@@Reefer_Matt I started out using “all-for-reef” everything was doing very good. I then switched to dosing kalk with a versa and you could literally see the growth from day to day! My Walt Disney, Bill Murray, after party and dipping dots are growing like weeds! Everything in the tank is doing better than ever!
