      To be honest, I would rather have seen FSR pocket the 9 instead of the concession. Sure, it was a formality, but still a bit odd to concede there. (In a final, any other match it's OK.)

    conceding is one thing. but the way soufi conceded, he looked genuinely happy for his opponent. you can actually see a smile on his face while he did it. now that's a rare thing. he could be sulking in his corner or miserably conceding but he didn't. much respect to him - can't believe how well he played considering his fundamentals and quickness.

      I am very happy that these tournaments allow the players to get paid, but I am skeptical about the fact that all pool tournaments are ending up as a Matchroom property and marketing seems to be the most important thing, even more important than the game itself. I read somewhere that she is proposing a golden buzzer shot or sth like that for pool and thank God her team and her superiors shut that shit down. The fact that she and the people who set up these tournaments dont play themselves, means to me that is just a business, which is run very well so far, but the game as a game is not something they really focus on. I think it's used more like a product they want to sell, which is of course a part of organizing tournaments, but it should never be the only goal in my opinion.

    • @chrisyounce1815
      @chrisyounce1815 Рік тому +1

      @@GLMusic12 I understand your skepticism. I would suggest you to watch any one of the interviews Emily has done and you will be very impressed with her passion and work ethic for making Matchroom Pool not only successful as a "business" but to make the players a lot more money than they have been and with the chance to have this thing get bigger than anybody dreamed of. Look what just happened recently, Shane Van Boeing on 60 Minutes and Fedor Gorse on Joe Rogan. The audience of those two shows in less than a month is in the millions. I believe this will be the next big boom in pool like what came from The Color of Money. Did you watch any of the World 9 Ball Championships that just finished yesterday hosted by Matchroom Pool with $60,000 to the winner? It was fantastic!. Don't be to worried about this being run like a business, every major sports team on earth is a business and it's seams to be working ok for them.

    I watched this tournament on DAZN. Last year I criticized Matchroom Pool for under par commentary and interruptions during play. There were too many "amateur hour" moments. Not so with this production. The 2023 World Pool Championship was far more polished. The high level of production, the lighting, the commentary, and referees all did a superlative job. For decades pool commentary lagged behind the excellence we hear for both golf and tennis. No more. The commentary by Jeremy Jones and Karl Boyes was brilliant. They did not draw attention to themselves but enhanced the pool watching experience. They were both calm, probing, intelligent, and every word was focused on the players and the table. I argue that both Jeremy Jones and Shane Van Boening are the two most important people in American cue sports today. There were a couple of hiccups, however. One being was when the match between Shane Van Boening vs. Duong Quoc Hoang were tied on the hill at 10 -10, Matchroom cut to an interview with Mario He. I love Mario but, c'mon, hill-hill? Hopefully, hiccups such as this will be ironed out in the future. Pool has long deserved recognition but was always the forgotten step-child of sports. Matchroom Pool is changing this perception. Last but not least, congratulations to both Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Mohammed Soufi. They had me in tears! I wish I could reach through this implacable screen and shower them with hugs and kisses. Their performances were as compelling and awesome as they are. ❤

    Francisco Sanchez Ruiz displayed the performance in the tournament that consolidates why he is the World Number One coming into this World Championship and one of the most worthy World Champions based on what he has won most recently, including the World Cup of Pool, the US Open and the Mosconi Cup. His nickname not just El Ferrari but also the Rafael Nadal of World pool. For Mohammad Soufi, he is the third Arab or Muslim player in as many years to get to at least a Semi-Final, something nobody thought at all would be here, like Morocco and South Korea when they reached a FIFA World Cup Semis. Spain now has a world champion in soccer, a successful world tennis player and now, this.

    It's nice to see some guys play fast. Soufi might be a little too fast, but it is far more entertaining to see guys like Soufi than MANY of the other guys take 30 seconds on basic shots. The shot clock is needed in all tournaments and if the game of pool wants younger fans - the game needs to be sped up. Congrats to Ruiz, tremendous player.

      Hes more like earl the pearl rather than Efren, Efren doesn't play as fast and never has done, soufi doesn't have the safety game that Efren has and Efren doesn't snap shots in like soufi does, Efren always rolls the balls in nicely especially when it comes to the 9 ball.

    Great final two players that play with confidence and speed!! If they make the shot clocks 15 seconds this game would be fun to watch!! I'd watch every match no matter who was playing!!! Love there wasn't soft breaks too!!!! Great idea!!!

    • @jamesdavis8731
      @jamesdavis8731 Рік тому

      Well, 15 seconds might be a bit too fast - but I totally get your point. There are far far far too many slow players today, and it hurts the game. Younger fans, especially, don't want to sit around and watch a guy or gal walk around the table for 45 seconds on fairly basic shots.

    • @frankforster706
      @frankforster706 Рік тому

      30 seconds is plenty short with only one extension and given the pressure and difficulty in some of these situations. There was a big miss in the semi-final due to the shot clock ticking down, we also saw Soufi running for his jump stick in the final and - small observation - the shot clock usually starts ticking before the opponent is even seated. Chances are an even shorter shot clock will negatively affect the quality of the play, albeit slightly. A radical reduction like to 15 seconds would affect the quality big time. And that's a bigger problem for less experienced players. Cinderella stories like Soufi become less likely and young, extremely talented players may bust out of tournaments due to inexperience in time management. It's counterproductive imo.

    Thank you Matchroom !
    For the tournament and the stream.
    FSR & Soufi = one of the most exciting finals I have seen!
    Commentators were
    Very good. Prefer Mark Wilson’s style & inputs over Karl but Karl is OK. JJ was excellent as normal.
    (also JJ, I have noticed since Simonis added the word CLOTH. to the name as written on the cushions, I don’t hear you referring to the CLOTH as felt anymore. )THANK YOU!
    Matchroom still needs to correct the 4 and 5
    balls colors. BAD !BAD !
