  • After 50 years of life on this earth, more coaches are entering the “core” class of condition.
They are not driving at that moment so considerations need to be made but if you want to end up with a truly reliable 50 year old vehicle, you need to start at the inside and work your way out…….. do everything and you KNOW what you have.
You consider the selling price but also what it will take to get the coach, home, safe and secured to start work. Hey, that’s part of the reason for the price being low.
How much is that? Watch this video and learn more then YOU can figure out a “good deal”.
This is how you look at doing it all yourself with a core. So how do I pick a good one to do everything to?
Watch this video, please leave your comments…. and thanks for the support…..
And… if the coach I show you here, as of the posting of this video is available for $6,500 ….. a great price in my thinking….. watch and see why I say that.

YOU MUST BE YOUR OWN MECHANIC. As long as the engine, transmission, final drive, front knuckles, disc brakes, fuels lines, fuel tanks, coolant system, air-ride system, rear bogie pins, brakes, air-bags and bathroom are good-to-go, you should be golden. 1973 Canyon Lands 260. A labor of love.

Agree. If you are not proficient at auto repair, forget it. And you have to LIKE working on cars. And "home" construction. Because you WILL be working on them.

    I bought a 77 eleganza II for 3500....
Instead of a muscle car to rebuilt....
    It is daunting but exciting.
Thanks Jim for all that you do.
    We all need you

i bought a 73 gmc from march air force base air museum 9 months ago for 2300 dollars. they were using it as a display and painted it like the EM50 , poor paint job that sat outside for 3 years. i put a battery and a fuel pump in it and drove it home, the deals are out there if your willing to do some work yourself. ive seen some videos about half million dollar motorhomes that were junk, im way ahead of the game !

I bought my '75 for even less than that last September - running and driving if you don't count the compressor not running and no rear brakes...

Hey Jim, I REALLY enjoyed this episode. If you can do some more rundowns of advertised coaches - especially ones you're familiar with - I think they'd be very helpful to newish folks like me. I've been researching them for a couple of years now (and am committed to this horrid little '78 side bath Birchaven) but I love looking at the ones that are out there...the ones that got away.

Purchased one last year that’s been sitting because of a bad transmission. Gutted but the bathroom and center cabinets. Are all there.. Good price but finding a good transmission or someone to work on it in SC is tough!

I have one of these to sell, but am on the West Coast. Need to re-join GMCMI to reconnect with other owners to help me get her sold.

I'd like to find one of these. Is yours running? Would it make the trip back to Michigan?

Well, Jim - since you asked for comments: got a '75 Glenbrook last year at an estate auction for way, way less than the "core" cost - the only trick was getting it down off a mountaintop in five days before the property changed hands...
Running and driving to a point, but I got it towed, about 40 miles.
I'm working on a little bit of everything all at once - brakes, air ride, window seals, Ion wheels - but it sure counts as a solid core.

I would love to get one of these, I have the perfect motor. It's an Olds 455 bored and stroked to 496 c.i. Pump gas engine makes 650 ft lbs of torque. I do have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Florida.
    Is this still for sale?

I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first coach. I'm nipples deep in working on her. She's going to be my last project, i think. I'm going to turn wrenches on her continuously until I'm done, which means she's sold. What a great machine! My next one will be a golf cart.

Buy an RV that someone had been driving every year... even as a project. Chances are someone using it has invested some money in it, and that is usually part of the list of repairs you wont have to attend to. I started my project with a runner under 10,000 and saw there was new tires, new exhaust, all seats were re upholstered. I drove it for 2 hours before i trusted it to take a two day drive home and it needed a lot of work.. it'll always be a work in progress, but each year the list of repairs gets shorter.. but i try to fix things before they fail.
