I've been a beginner for few months and i just want to say that while you are playing oud, your fingers are so relax on the frets that i cannot imagine that i will achieve this someday sir. Also i can play the Uşşak Peşrev of Tatyos, but this is something else of course. This pushes me to work harder, increases my appetite for studying and makes my desire for the knowledge of mûsikî insatiable. Greetings from Turkey

Beautiful playing Yanif. Intended to listen for a couple seconds but watched it twice instead! I wonder what your process is for this? I.e. transcribing & practicing

      Thanks for your comment!
In general my process for learning a piece involves listening and learning to sing the melody, then translating to the oud is much easier. If you can't sing it, you haven't internalized it fully. In parallel becoming aware of the structure of the piece and the seyir followed in each part to know the song better. If needed I will practice each verse separately and sometimes slowed down, so I become familiar with every second and how I am going to play in it. Then practicing the whole piece with the recording (again isolating problematic parts and practicing them if needed), then practicing the whole piece without a recording. If I have sheet music or transcribe it myself it can help speed up the learning process, but it is not necessary, I rely more on my hearing and memory, I never use sheet music during recording/playing live.
I hope this helps, practice well

Hi! Just binged on some of your videos and really enjoy your playing, thank you! I'm a lute player and am curious how you are attaching the DPA to your oud? I've never got one as I could never work out how I'd stick it on there...

thank you Jim for your comment! The DPA microphone comes with a mini rubber grasp with a flat square base, so i just put a bit of double sided tape on and stuck it on the bowl. I use it for recording at home, it is not practical for the oud on most live gigs.

@@YanivMasel That makes sense. It's an awkward shape! Thanks for the reply!
