  • Since the 1980s, the Floyd Country Store in Floyd, Virginia, has been a popular destination for those who enjoy authentic Appalachian music and dance. The Friday Night Jamboree, held year round, features spirited flatfoot dancing to bluegrass string bands. American flatfoot dancing developed as a unique mixture of Irish step dancing combined with English, Scottish, German, Cherokee and African rhythms and movements. Some of the flatfoot dancers at The Floyd Country Store wear tap shoes. Flatfoot dancing is important to Appalachian culture and its people, and it lives on at The Floyd Country Store.

When he came out playing the spoons, I just about cried! I don't think I have ever witnessed such a display of authentic, ancient fun. It truly was remarkable being there. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching from Germany!! If you haven’t seen my other videos, check them out! I’ve made quite a few videos with my parents, we are Pennsylvania Germans, my parents can still speak the dialect of our immigrant ancestors even though they are 7th-generation Americans! Our ancestors came to Pennsylvania in the 1700s from southwest Germany.

@@darleneschneck I've laughed nearly the whole video 😅It reminds me to one of my favorites. If you want to stop somebody arguing with you or something else you might say in German - Geh mir nicht auf den Keks, which means in English - Don't walk on my biscuit. I was not so wrong when I was reminded to the Amish People when you told me where your ancestors are coming from - and I like the Brandenberger Family😊

@@Henry_Martin_Taylor I like the Brandenberger family too! My mother’s family was Mennonite, but my father’s family was Lutheran, and so I am descended from what we call the “Fancy Dutch” and also the “Plain Dutch!“ I love that saying about the biscuit, I will tell my parents! I’m glad you enjoy my videos ❤️👏

I'm so jealous. Nothing like this near me. My daddy was from Tennessee, this kind of stuff is in my soul.

We LOVE the Floyd Country Store. Mrs. Old Joe and I got married just down the road from there a few years ago. It was a great place to gather the family for Friday night fun. Thanks for sharing!
