As a long time BYU fan I just want to tell everyone to hold your horses. BYU almost always comes out of the gate strong, then the injuries start piling up, there is no depth and the back half of the season fizzles. Utah always has a stronger bench and they are just a QB away from a strong finish. Nice to see a conference that is so evenly matched. It seems like almost any given game could be won by either team
I think this year is different. We have more depth than we’ve ever had. Our problem before was being G5 or independent but now that were part of a conference no matter if it’s lost its prestige or not, we finally have the ability to go after depth. I’m not crossing my fingers but I’m a believer for now
BYU fan here. None of us are sold that this team is very good. We seem to have made it to 5-0 in the least convincing fashion possible. KSU win? Points off turnovers that cant be relied upon. Stellar defense? We shit the bed against Baylor and cant stop anything they did after the first quarter. Retzlaff fixed his decision making? Two picks, one of which was a horrible throw. ARod's play calling is suspect...again. Our RB room is full of glass dolls that can't stay healthy. Anyway, 5-0 is great, but 5-0 like this doesn't feel great.
As a BYU fan, I am just going to soak in the fact that they’re even at the top of this conversation midway through the season. It is awesome and I’m going to enjoy every moment while it lasts!

It's like you guys have a cycle where you're really bad but you slowly build to be pretty good over 3 to 4 years than you're bad again. How many Big 12 teams do you think will make the playoffs? How I see it turning out is 8 teams from SEC/B1G, Boise, ND, ACC & Big 12 champs. It sucks if we can only get 1 or MAYBE 2 teams in. Good intelligent in depth analysis. I've been a sport's reporter. Keep up the good work. I've been a BYU fan since the 50s when they never beat Utah. I sincerely, the way K St controlled the 1st half only 2 possessions almost the half thought the Cougars would be fortunate to only lose by 14.

Even Hans Olson the color man thought BYU's defense was getting so wore out they would be ineffective the 2nd half. Hans was excited his 1996 team was honored at the game. Hans said his 3 most emotional moments in life were when Lavell died, when his Uncle Merlin died (Utah State was ranked #4 back then) and tonight with all his team mates from that team that beat K St in the bowl and BYU was ranked #5. Tongue in cheek, Hans was naming many from that team and he said "Why isn't Steve Sarkesian here?" Well he's head coach at Texas who just replaced Georgia at #1 this week.
Let's keep the expectations for BYU in check. Yes they are 5-0 but in nearly every game there have been serious issues that will likely come back to bite them eventually. Also, injuries are piling up and depth is going to be a serious issue down the stretch. If they can win 3 of their last 7 that will be a noteworthy achievement for their second year in the Big 12.
I'm a fan of BYU. But I'm not predicting even 2 games ahead. Here you go though. BYU is at home. BYU is rested. I think BYU will do to Arizona what they did to Kansas State at home. If Utah depends on one guy to win their games then it isn't a team. I see BYU as a team this year. OK, bowl game ya. i am sure that BYU will be invited to bowl again. Now if Arizona shuts down special teams like Baylor did then it will be a closer game. BYU after the bye bye week. I don't know about the rest of them.

So basically, in today's therapy session with Drake, I realized that we don't HAVE to win to love our team - and the cycle continues...
Drake the play calling for UCF was horrendous. The play from KJ Jefferson was horrendous. Next Florida Gators. 🐊 Nothing better to clear the blues than a win.
It is great for byu to have the opportunity to be a top Dake Troll's power ratings for the next two weeks (which no one cares about anyway). They deserve it for a nice start, but sadly they will crash back down to earth soon after the upcoming 4-game losing streak.
@@mob4ever I don’t believe it will last. Deion 100% gone after this season. I would hope not. He’s good publicity for the league, and it seems the only school getting national attention. I’ll be happy if he stays but I remain pessimistic. We will see come December/January what it looks like. Hopefully he stays and I’m wrong he’s only in it for his sons and Travis. I’ll be a believer. 🤞🏼 And what if he keeps this up. Will a P2 make the call, if FSU keeps losing at this alarming rate. You don’t think Deion would take that job in a nano second?
I’m a BYU fan… but #2? No, man. I don’t even know if our team is good. The Y were straight trash in the second half vs the Bears. I watched at least some of every Big 12 game and the only teams I felt good about was Colorado and K State. Utah got crushed at home, which is a terrible look for the conference. Iowa State IS the conference’s best team, but they looked human again Houston (of all teams).
Legitimate question. I get the rankings related to head to head losses, etc. But would you actually put your money up on a bet that the Big 12 championship will be Iowa State vs. BYU?
Actual Big 12 National Rankings 13 Kansas State 16 Iowa State 20 Utah 25 Oklahoma State 27 BYU 32 Colorado 33 Arizona 34 UCF 35 TCU 38 Texas Tech 42 West Virginia 47 Baylor 48 Cincinnati 50 Kansas 59 Arizona State 80 Houston
Can’t emphasize enough how important the injury to starting center, nfl bound Conner Pay is for BYU. Offense first half vs offense second half wasn’t completely because of that injury… but 75%.
Ollie had 70 something yards in the first quarter. He then had 6 carries the rest of the game. They chose not to run the ball it’s not that they couldn’t.
It would be a curse for the Cougars. I love them but my confidence waivers when people place them above their capability. They are good but may fade. I hope not but part practice dictates they will falter.
As Utes fan... I got no idea what the hell that was. To be fair Drake... AZ was a PAC team not B12. So far, B12 teams haven't been a challenge. See OKST and Baylor. But the old PAC teams are apparently 😂😂😂
How many defensive ratings did you have to cherry pick through to find one that says Iowa State's defense is #30?!?!?!!? General consensus is #9, some have them as high as #4. I haven't seen a single source that has them out of the top 25 defens.
Our cyclones just had another injury at linebacker where they had 3 already. LB is super thin right now so good rushing offenses are going have success.

I State’s only elite defensive stat is YaPG. It’s an important one, but not comprehensive, especially since you’ve played 0 even average offenses so far. ND, Ark State, Iowa, and Houston. That’s super inflating your defensive rankings.
@@XIN3OHd well this is misleading. ND has averaged over 40 points/game since playing ISU, ArkSt scored 18 on Michigan and averaged over 28 points a game in their first 2. It's way too early to tell. Iowa and Houston's offense sucks, I agree though Iowa's lowest score was again, against ISU.
Sorry. But watching the 2nd half of the BYU game was like looking at their abysmal team of last year. It’s not sustainable for the Cougs, especially once the injuries pile up.
"If only X was healthy" Welcome to BYU, Utah fans. We havent had a healthy qb in a decade. Sitake hasn't ended a season with the qb he started with since he started coaching for BYU. Watch Taysom run around the NFL... and think, if only...
If the Big 12 gets into the playoffs on an automatic bid while ranked outside the top 12, there will be a ton of heat from P2 fans and media. Even the ACC should have something to say since Clemson and Miami are better then every Big 12 team.
Miami is suspect. Clemson is pretty good, though. But the ACC has horrendous losses that should tarnish their credibility. Duke came back against UNC. A school that got massacred against JMU. Boston College barely beat a G5 and so did NC State. Among other black eyes. The Big 12 and ACC have been garbage. No room for either to talk.
@@lorenzohaynes3886 In college football it's about how your top teams are performing. Everyone knows that the ACC was basically Clemson, SEC was basically UGA and Bama, and B1G was basically UM and OSU. But your top teams have to legitimately earn a playoff spot. Miami can legit go 11-1 so they deserve to be there. The whole "deepest conference in college football" is a narrative pushed by Big 12 fans and media. That's fun during the season, but in the playoffs, we do want to see the best teams playing the best teams. The Big 12 earning a 4th seed with its best team outside the top 10, possibly outside the top 12 will do more harm than good on the national perception.
@@heartbreak25 Hilarious...... Clemons only good win was against Stanford. A team TCU beat. Their only test was against Georgia. We know how that went. They may win out because the ACC as a whole is so bad. But... are you willing to bet on that? Not only should Miami have lost against Va Tech. The win that catapult them into the top 10 was a Florida. A win that means absolutely nothing. Stick your chest out. But sorry bud.... the ACC is straight garbage. Neither conference has a serious contender for a championship. And if Clemson is the best ACC team. Which they are. Then the ACC is serious trouble. Not even comparable to the P2.
@@heartbreak25 And I'm not proud to say any of this. But I can see where this is going. If the Big 12 and ACC don't greatly improve over the next 5-10 years. They will get left behind. And the fans will ask for it. Even you are kind of saying it now. It's just your bias won't let you admit the ACC is kinda irrelevant. And saying kinda is being generous. A honest person can look at the top 12 and what they've actually done on the field and admit neither Clemson nor Miami is really a top 12 team. Neither on any level. I'm a huge Big 12 fan. And I can honestly say if these schools don't greatly clean up their play. The conference will be 1 and done. Pretending that's not true for the ACC as well and acting like they belong in the same conversation as the P2 is irrational. Miami needed ref help to beat Va Tech. They'd get blasted against Oregon, Georgia, or Alabama. And so would Clemson. Fans of the Big 12 and the ACC have to grasp the magnitude of this situation. Georgia is the 3rd best team in the SEC. Third, not first. That's not including Tennessee. Oregon or Penn State is 3rd in the Big 10. And that's not seriously dissecting either conference. Both the Big 12 and ACC champions are going to have to face one of those top 2-3 Big 10 and SEC teams. If you think Clemson or Miami are on that level right now. You are not being honest with yourself at all.
@@lorenzohaynes3886 My bias? Lol! My team is in the B1G. Sorry. It's really simple. The 11th best team plus a G5 or ND goes to the playoffs. Right now, the best Big 12 team is ranked 16th and we're nearly halfway into the season. None of you are confident in BYU, Utah is shaky, so it's a Iowa State or bust? I've listened to grievances from Big 12 fans and media all year long about the P2. I'm using the ACC as an example of how teams separate themselves to get multiple teams into the playoffs. You may not like that style points matter, but they do matter. No one is beating the top 4 teams in a neutral site, but that doesn't change the fact 8 more teams still need to be selected and have a chance to play. And a Big 12 team getting a 4th seed in the playoffs due to an autobid would be the most ironic thing ever.
You might not believe me but I wanted Utah to win too. You live in Utah you hope that all for of the big schools will win. Utah State, Weber State, Utah and BYU. Of course most Utah fans want to see BYU lose. I'm guessing most of them are democrats...

Oh 100% in my opinion, I feel we're at most a top 5 team in the conference AT THE MOMENT. We're all just waiting for our regular byu plays like running the ball on 3rd & 7 or throwing games like we almost did with Baylor. (That call still baffles me)
This team looks a hell of a lot more put together than every other team I’ve watched (haven’t seen an Iowa State game yet). Offense looked good at times, and that defense was reliable

BYU fans will show up regardless of 5-0 records, and the team will always sing the fight song with us after every game, day or night, rain or shine, win or lose. So basically, in today's therapy session with Drake, I realized that we don't HAVE to win to love our team - and the cycle continues...
Any win no matter how ugly is precious. SMU on the road was ugly. Then SMU crushed TCU 66-42.
Iowa State’s scoring defense is 4th in the nation after Ohio State, Texas, & Tennessee.
Drake the play calling for UCF was horrendous. The play from KJ Jefferson was horrendous. Next Florida Gators. 🐊 Nothing better to clear the blues than a win.
Welcome to the Big 12 UTAH!!! The mightly UTAH fell!!!!
The yewts' worst nightmare could be coming true. Too bad.
It is great for byu to have the opportunity to be a top Dake Troll's power ratings for the next two weeks (which no one cares about anyway). They deserve it for a nice start, but sadly they will crash back down to earth soon after the upcoming 4-game losing streak.
Just to let you know, it's utes (like Utah) but I agree, Utah could actually have a bad season for once which is their nightmare
They don't look like The Truck Stop Conf Dominating Team they thought they were do they?
@@mal91579 Same with Utah's next 3 loses coming up 😭
@@someguy9169welcome to the ugly side of BYU fandom. It’s yewts as in ew. Clever I know
Wondering if Cam Rising is AI generated on the sideline or if he is really there?
im curious to see how iowa state competes against baylor.
After BYU's bye week they get Arizona & OSU in Provo. They'll be favored in both games. If they win those watch out!
Colorado is the dark horse
UCFs’ performance wasn’t a good look for the league.
Why say that? Why not give Colirado credit. Do you really believe they will lose by 27+ again this year?
Colorado is a one trick pony. Deion is gone after the season. UCF is suppose to be the future power of CFB.
@@Mike-aka747 Uou honestly sound like you never are going to give colorado a fair shake. Bit you're entitled to your opinion
And what if he keeps this up. Will a P2 make the call, if FSU keeps losing at this alarming rate. You don’t think Deion would take that job in a nano second?
It's like whatever plagued Texas Tech last year is now happening to Kansas. It's pretty stinking hard to crawl out of a 1-3 start of close losses.
Houston I think is actually good on defense against certain types of teams but their offense is so horrible they can't beat anyone
@@wesleyowens4089 - That’s a good point. I could t tell if Iowa State’s offense was just sluggish or if Houston’s actually a good defensive team.
Legitimate question. I get the rankings related to head to head losses, etc. But would you actually put your money up on a bet that the Big 12 championship will be Iowa State vs. BYU?
Preseason goes out the window once the season starts. Truth is, those 2 teams have been the most consistent so far.
Actual Big 12 National Rankings
13 Kansas State
16 Iowa State
20 Utah
25 Oklahoma State
27 BYU
32 Colorado
33 Arizona
34 UCF
35 TCU
38 Texas Tech
42 West Virginia
47 Baylor
48 Cincinnati
50 Kansas
59 Arizona State
80 Houston
Can’t emphasize enough how important the injury to starting center, nfl bound Conner Pay is for BYU. Offense first half vs offense second half wasn’t completely because of that injury… but 75%.
Ollie had 70 something yards in the first quarter. He then had 6 carries the rest of the game. They chose not to run the ball it’s not that they couldn’t.
It would be a curse for the Cougars. I love them but my confidence waivers when people place them above their capability. They are good but may fade. I hope not but part practice dictates they will falter.
Drake I'm very curious, what's with the cell phone and Kalani Sitake? It's in so many of your videos and I need to know the story 😂
@@markgreyson9531that makes me feel a little better as a tech fan. Tahj Brooks is a beast and if you can't stop him we have a shot of being in that game. Now our defense isn't gonna stop anyone for the most part though they have looked good at times. Excited for this Arizona game though to see what where we really stand
They haven’t yet……those freshman linebackers are playing their asses off in the backup role. You’ll see. #9 Brezina is the real deal.
I’m scared that Arizona is a Trap game for BYU
Sorry. But watching the 2nd half of the BYU game was like looking at their abysmal team of last year. It’s not sustainable for the Cougs, especially once the injuries pile up.
"If only X was healthy"
Welcome to BYU, Utah fans. We havent had a healthy qb in a decade. Sitake hasn't ended a season with the qb he started with since he started coaching for BYU.
Watch Taysom run around the NFL... and think, if only...
If only BYU put all there players on TRT like the NFL does 🤣
If BYU and KState win out Kstate wins Big12 championship, does BYU get an at large bid
They'd better! An undefeated reg season would be incredible
Texas Tech owns Arizona!!
Hey Drake
Coaches Corner in Thunderbolt has power
You should do a remote from there if the power doesn’t return today
This dude 😂 instead of saying he AZ is pretty good they getting it together. He says no what is wrong with Utah 😅
👍
UCF was over rated. They played two FCS teams and then barely squeeked by TCU by one. Colorado will lose at 3 or more games.
One FCS team
Utah was big surprise/disappointment..argh!
You might not believe me but I wanted Utah to win too. You live in Utah you hope that all for of the big schools will win. Utah State, Weber State, Utah and BYU. Of course most Utah fans want to see BYU lose. I'm guessing most of them are democrats...
The fact that you want even mention CU is just crazy ain’t no team in the Big 12 playing like CU defense and they going to beat Kansas st they got lucky in two of they outings cu wins 38-10
He mentioned two Heisman quality players and ranked them at 4
As a byu fan, byu is NOT the 2nd best team in the conference. Not even close.
As a BYU fan, I agree we're not #2... But we're weirdly not as far behind as I thought.
Are you watching the other teams though? So far BYU had looked pretty dang good. Who would be #2 in your book?
@@KirkTingey Well this comment hasn't aged well
WVU too low!!!
Would agree if KU had not lost at home by 11 to TCU. KU is WVU's only decent win so far and that happened with 32 seconds left in the game.
I think the Utes are still at #2 behind Iowa state.
They're not. Cam Rising is the great hope that doesn't play.
@@lorenzohaynes3886I think even without Cam Rising they’re currently #2 in the conference behind Iowa state. Then BYU, then Colorado, then Kansas state. I would put BYU higher but I just can’t see BYU winning the conference this year, whereas I could see any of the other teams I just listed winning it.
Lol so where would that put Arizona who just trashed them?
